March 2016 Scholarship ongoing: Varsity Tutors Scholarships (Monthly) Varsity Tutors runs a monthly $1,000 scholarship contest where students must write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship. Deadline: Check out website Summer Volunteer Program: Athens Regional Teen Volunteer Athens Regional Medical Center's Volunteer Services Department is now accepting inquiries regarding their Teen Volunteer Program for the summer of 2016. Teens who are ages 15-17 by June 1, hold a GPA of a B or higher, maintain high standards of behavior and are sincerely interested in helping others will be considered. The application deadline is 5:00 PM on March 3, 2016 Deadline: March 3, 2016 by 5 PM Scholarship Name: SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award Outstanding students who are interested in attending the Savannah College of Art and Design may be eligible for the SCAD Distinguished Scholars Award. This award is $20,000 per year. A nominated student must have the following: - Minimum 1350 SAT combined Math and CR score or ACT composite score of 30 -GPA of 3.75 -Outstanding visual arts, performing arts, writing or riding capabilities -Honors and awards from competitions -Leadership demonstrated through co-curricular or extracurricular involvement To be considered, a senior must complete all SCAD admission requirements prior to March 1. Official transcript must be sent along with the application Deadline: March 1, 2016 Scholarship Name: Classic Center Cultural Foundation Scholarships One of the goals of The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is to support the youth in our community who desire to continue their studies in the arts. The Classic Center Cultural Foundation will be offering three separate $2,000 scholarships. There will be one awarded for vocal performance, one for musical instrument and one for performance art: drama/dance. Any

high school Junior or Senior from Clarke County or surrounding counties is eligible (Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe). A panel of local judges will be been chosen to make the final decision for the scholarship award. The Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships annually in the amount of $1500, $1000, and $750 to high school seniors through an essay writing contest. Applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office and must be returned to Peach State Credit Union by March 18, 2016 Deadline: March 18, 2016 Scholarship Name: Presbyterian College Fellows Award The Presbyterian College Fellows Award recognizes high school juniors who have demonstrated superior academic achievement and potential for future success. The $2,000 scholarship awards $500 annually for four years of study at Presbyterian College. Juniors with demonstrated potential for success who meet two of the following criteria may be nominated: - Ranked in the top 10 percent of the current junior class. -A weighed GPA of 3.5 or higher. -One or more of the following test scores - PSAT of 110 or higher (critical reading and math only), SAT score of 1100 or higher (critical reading and math), or ACT Composite score of 24 or higher. Scholarship Name: 2016 Congressional Art Competition Students in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in the 2016 Congressional Art Competition. This event is a nation-wide annual art competition that allows high school students to showcase their ability. Winners artwork is displayed at the U.S. Capitol building for a year. Deadline: Due to district offices March 24, 2016 Summer Program: American Legion Georgia Boys State Leadership Action Program Attention Rising Senior male students: Georgia Boys State is a comprehensive one week course in state and local government and is a program of the American Legion Department Of Georgia. This year's session will be held on June 12-18 at Riverside Military Academy. It is a "leadership action program" where qualified male high school rising seniors take part in a practical government course. It is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizen the fact that our government is just what we make it. Along the way delegates have the opportunity to learn the political process by organizing a mythical 51st state. Each level of government is run by those delegates who are elected to serve. Instruction is presented on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Georgia political history. More information can be found at www.dogboysstate.org. Deadline: March 30, 2016 Summer Program: American Legion Girls State Event Rising Senior Female students may be interested in attending the American Legion Girls State event this year. The applications are due March 30. There is no cost to the student other than spending money. Girls State delegates are a diverse group of young women with a shared desire to learn and lead. About 16,000 women participate in this event each summer. Students will learn about government from the local level to the state level. Using nonpartisan curriculum, participants assume the roles of government leaders. This is a great program for young leaders who are interested in future government leadership! Deadline: March 30, 2016 Scholarship Name: Oconee County Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation (Repeated from 2/29) The Education Foundation of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that $500 scholarships will be offered to one graduate from each of the five high schools in the county. Applications will be accepted between February 29 and April 1, and can be picked up in the Counseling Office. The student must be pursuing a post-secondary education. Scholarship Name: "Liga De Campeones" scholarship The "Liga De Campeones" scholarship is designed to motivate Latino youth in the Atlanta area to pursue higher education. Students who are bilingual (Spanish and English), have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, are of Hispanic descent and live in the metro Atlanta that receive the Univision 34 signal are eligible to apply. Deadline: March 31, 2016 Special Opportunity working: Zaxby s Tuition Assistance Zaxby's is offering at $1,000 tuition assistance opportunity for college-bound students. This will be a reimbursement fund for tuition, fees or books each semester. The reimbursement requirements are: - Four months of continuous employment prior to the time of enrollment. -Average of 20 hours per week employment during the semester. - Assistance offered to Zaxby's employees at both the Watkinsville and Greensboro locations. Scholarship Name: EPOCHS Scholarship The PTO of Oconee County High School will award two, $500 EPOCHS scholarships to deserving senior students. The scholarships are given to recognize students who have made a difference in the lives of others, and their own, through involvement in school/community/work activities. Furman scholar nominees must be current juniors who meet the following criteria: - A genuine interest in an education in the liberal arts and sciences - A high school weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher -Significant involvement in extracurricular activities and community service -Demonstrated leadership potential -At least a 1250 on the SAT, a 1280 on the PSAT, or a 28 on the ACT. Deadline: April 8, 2016 Scholarship Name: Julian and Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship The goal of the Julian & Jan Hester Memorial Scholarship is to assist deserving high school seniors in their first year of college and to promote community banking. The scholarship is named after long-time CBA Chief Executive Officer, the late Julian Hester and his late daughter, Jan Hester. Jan was a senior at the University of Georgia when she died in an auto accident on April 15, 1990. In addition to supporting community banking, this scholarship is an opportunity to pass on the positive qualities both Julian and Jan Hester exemplified to further the development of tomorrow s generations. Good citizenship 2. An active interest in the civil, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community 3. A record of service to the community without personal financial reward. Visitors to the Varsity Tutors scholarship webpage are able to vote via social media for submitted entries. The top five entries with the most votes are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship. Deadline: Check out website JUNE 2016 Scholarship Name: Triangle Achievement Awards - Xi Lambda Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon International The Xi Lambda Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity announces its first annual Triangle Achievement Awards. There will be five scholarships awarded to male seniors who plan to attend The University of Georgia in the fall of 2016. The awards include a $1,000 scholarship and four $500 scholarships. The successful candidates will be evaluated upon the following: academic success, extracurricular activities and excellence in athletics.
