Simulating for the worst ensures the best results Pilots hone flying skills at Los Alamitos airfield By Bob Fore Feature Writer Lance Fletcher, lead flight instructor for the Synthetic Flight Training System, located at Los Alamitos Army Airfield in California, watches as a pilot responds to a simulated engine overspeed, induced into the simulator from the computer console in front of the instructor. The pilot s correct actions in response to the emergency will regain control of the aircraft and prevent total engine failure. Pilot Bob Fore shoots a precision- instrument approach into Long Beach airport even though he never left the ground at the SFTS facility. The UH-1 simulator provides the realism and challenges of actual flying at just a fraction of the cost of the real thing and it s totally safe. (Photo by Larry Fletcher) (Photo by Bob Fore)

Customer Satisfaction Feedback Program Raytheon Quality Assurance personnel will be conducting telephone interviews to obtain opinions about services provided by Small Boat Marinas on Kwajalein and Roi. Customers will be selected randomly. We encourage and appreciate your participation. Your responses will help determine satisfaction with services and equipment. The results of this survey will be published in the Hourglass following analysis of the data. Questions can be referred to Jonathan Jackson, RSE Quality Assurance, 51506. Classified Ads and Community Notices There have been a number of electric scooters with throttles sticking in the down position. One indicator of the throttle sticking is emergency brake failure. Test the emergency brake before operating the vehicle. If the emergency brake does not work, chances are the throttle will stick. Do routine safety checks on vehicles, and make sure to leave the vehicles in neutral when parked. If any problems occur, call the Automotive Department, 53568. Happy scootering! sebajive@tcsn.net,

On July 21, the Marine Department will be hauling out one of the catamarans for a required drydock overhaul. The department s plans calls for both catamarans to be overhauled by the end of October. Due to this schedule maintenance requirement, only one catamaran will be available, with the intent that it will be used mainly to support Meck Island. The above temporary schedule puts three LCM s operating in the morning between Ebeye and Kwaj.
