The 20,330-square-foot building was built in 1985 and originally used as the Flight Standards Office. The Metro Council unanimously approved the agreement to relocate the Sheriff s Office to the facility in March 2012 following the decision to vacate the Municipal Building downtown. I am proud to have so many of my staff under one roof now, Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said. I feel that we can now better serve the public. The new facility houses more than 90 Sheriff s Office employees including Administration, Computer Operations, Criminal Records and many others. Sheriff Gautreaux also unveiled the EBRSO Memorial to fallen deputies in the lobby of the building. Attendees were treated to food and refreshments following the ceremony.
DEPUTIES OF THE MONTH Corporal Brian Stewart, of the Narcotics Division, has been named the Detective of the Month. Corporal Stewart began working for the EBRSO in January of 2004, joining Narcotics in 2008. He shows great initiative in his duties as a Narcotics Agent. His organization and attention to detail make him an asset to this Office. He consistently works with doctors and pharmacists to stop prescription fraud cases. In June, a warrant round up was conducted in which nine violators were picked up on warrants that had been issued by Corporal Stewart for Obtaining Controlled Dangerous Substances by Fraud. The Sheriff s Office would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication. Christie Garafola has been named Civil Deputy of the Month. Christie joined the EBRSO in May of 2001. Major Michael Crawford, of Operational Services, has been named Administrative and Support Services Deputy of the Month. The individual divisions were seamlessly moved from one building to the other without fault and were inaccessible to the public for a minimum amount of time. The Sheriff s Office truly appreciates Major Crawford s ability to get things accomplished quickly and in an orderly fashion. Thank you! Deputy Cedric Finley, currently assigned to the Unit 1 Kitchen in the prison, has been named the Corrections Deputy of the Month. Deputy Finley was hired in November of 2007 in Corrections and has faithfully remained a member of the Parish Prison team. He consistently goes above and beyond the call of duty when ensuring that contraband is not entering or leaving the kitchen. Deputy Finley has a strong work ethic and is always willing to go the extra mile for his fellow deputies. He believes in maintaining order with regards to the trusties and his consistent work habits and positive attitude help the D shift on many levels. Deputy Christopher Masters, currently stationed at Kleinpeter Substation, has been named Uniform Patrol Deputy of the Month. Deputy Masters joined the Sheriff s Office in June of 2011 in Uniform Patrol and transferred to Kleinpeter in October of the same year. He is nominated for his assistance in the capture and arrest of a male suspect who was running a narcotics and prostitution ring in and around local Motels in the Reiger Road area. Deputy Masters efforts lead to 7 felony and 5 misdemeanor arrests as well as the recovery of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, and stolen firearms.
