Regimental Calendar 2018 The Regimental calendar for 2018 is filling up fast. Please keep an eye on it for an update on events taking place this year. If you have an event that is not advertised, please let me know. It is vital that we advertise any forthcoming Branch and Regional events in order to encourage people to attend. There are a number of Branches that are organising trips to various events already, which is great to see. Please pass on the details to any events in your area to friends and families.

B. Branch Closure I am sad to report that the Darlington Branch of the Association has closed due to low numbers. The remaining Members are not lost though and will be joining forces with other branches in their area. I would like to thank JJ Wilson for his support as Branch Secretary. The good news is that we have received enquiries in regards to starting a branch in Brecon, Wales. The number of branches currently stands at 77. C. British Airborne Pilgrimages 2018 Tours International are the preferred supplier of Airborne Commemoration Pilgrimages for RHQ PARA and will be providing Pilgrimage Tours in 2018 to the Anniversaries for the Battles of the Ardennes, Normandy and Arnhem. Free places are available for Airborne Veterans and Widows of WW2 Veterans returning to the theatre in which they fought. This is very kindly funded by the Airborne Forces Security Fund. The following combinations qualify for the places: Veteran and Spouse - 2 people Veteran and Carer - 2 people Veteran, Spouse and Carer - 3 people Widow(er) and Carer - 2 people. Those who qualify and are travelling with Tours International will receive the subsidy through the Tour Operator. Those travelling independently will be required to claim the subsidy through RHQ PARA. Tours International can be contacted on: 01892 515825 or resv@tours-international.com It is a condition of booking that adequate holiday insurance is obtained and is a condition of booking with Tours International. Everyone attending commemorations abroad must ensure they have a valid E111 Card in addition to valid travel insurance. D. Charity Commission News The Charity Commission News is a quarterly newsletter, which provides essential information for charity trustees and their advisers. This is vital reading for any trustee within the Branches and provides a wealth of information on new ways in which to boost charity funds for organizations of all sizes. There are some interesting articles on digital collection methods. Further details can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/charity-commission-news E. Welfare Process The Regimental Welfare team at RHQ PARA is here to assist any member of the Parachute Regiment or Airborne Forces in need. The process is designed to ensure transparency and provide an audit trail for any assistance given, which is a lawful requirement. The first part of the process must be initiated by a SSAFA or RBL caseworker. They will complete Form A which is then submitted to the Regimental Welfare Team. They will then allocate funds from the Regimental Charities as required. The following numbers are very useful and should be used if you do not know your local SSAFA or RBL office number: SSAFA Helpline: 0800 731 4880 RBL Helpline: 0808 802 8080

Any Branch that requires assistance from the Regimental Welfare Team can call them on: 01206 817102 or see the website for details. F. Newsletter Articles The format and content of the monthly newsletter is aimed at all members and provides Branches with an opportunity to advertise or present events and information that would be of interest to all members. If you have any information that you would like to put forward to the newsletter please email the Secretary at: secretary@prahq.com. If you have G. Last Post Information The names and details of all Airborne Veterans that we are notified about are published in the Pegasus Magazine. At the moment we are receiving this information from a variety of sources, that is often not complete. Our limited resources and lack of staff are seriously hindering the confirmation process. It is therefore vital that all those who notify this HQ of the death of one of our veterans provide the information below: First Name Last Name Known As Date of Birth Date of Death Brief Service History/Rank/Regiment/Battalion Without this information we cannot confirm the identity of the individual or publish the details in Pegasus. We have no wish to upset the families or colleagues of our lost veterans, who are very keen to see their relative s military service in print. The support of all members in this matter is greatly appreciated. H. Pegasus Articles The deadline for Pegasus articles for the Yearbook 2017 has now passed. All Branches are requested to provide any future articles or information to Lisa as and when they become available, in order to meet the deadline. These can be sent by post or email to: lisa@pegausjournal.org I. Pegasus Journal Subscription Pegasus is the Regimental Journal of the Parachute Regiment and is published three times a year with two journals and one YEARBOOK. Subscription Rates: UK - 20 Europe - 26 Rest of World - 26 Overseas Surface Mail (approx. 6-8 weeks delivery) or 32 Airmail (approx. 5 days delivery) To receive your journals please contact Lisa at: lisa@pegausjournal.org call 01206 817088. Online membership is available at: www.pegasusjournal.org J. Standard Bearer Training There will be a course of instruction for Standard Bearers held in Croydon, over the period 17/18 Feb 18. Anyone within easy daily travelling distance is invited to attend. Peter Richens, the Regional Secretary for the South has kindly offered his services. Opportunities to conduct similar training for present or future Standard Bearers in other locations, will be explored following this trial. If anyone is interested in attending, please contact Peter Richens: peter.richens219@btinternet.com

K. Do You Know Him? In the Royal British Legion s magazine for Jan 2018, page 63 under Lost Track and there is a request from a Mr V Short, seeking information about ex WO2 George Short who served in 4 Para (V) in 1974. There was an accompanying B&W photo showing 4 pax, including one other WO2 which is too small and grainy to use. If anyone has any details regarding WO2 George Short they are requested to get in touch with Mr SV Short: The address is given as Enrique Del Piano 1828-103, Providencia, Santiago, Chile. Unfortunately, we do not have an email address. L. RHQ Staff Photograph For all those that remember RHQ as a large organisation I have included a copy of the latest staff photograph. Since this photograph was taken we have recently seen the departure of Lt Col Bruce Radbourne, who many of you will know. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the new Regimental Lt Col and Chairman of the PRA, Lt Col Liam Cradden MBE. Julia Weymouth has departed on maternity leave, as has the Regimental Treasurer Charlotte Donnelly. In her place, we welcome John Palmer-Barnes, who will be looking after our accounts. Finally, Dr Rob Kemp has departed for pastures new and is wished well in his new career.
