Sheriff Rick Ramsay and others from Sheriff s Office Administration visited our Miami offices recently to hand out service awards.
Community Events and Activities EVENTS, MEETINGS, CRIME PREVENTION ACTIVITIES.
This is the Staff from St. Mary Star of the Sea church. They visited the main detention center and sang Christmas songs in each unit and dorm. They also provided Christmas bags with candy and socks inside for all the inmates in KW and PK. The Basilica School and Religious Education students decorated all of the bags. Jail Programs added to the bags some Christmas cards, socks, Ramen noddle s and Candy canes for each inmate and detainee.
Every year, Detention Center staff visit the Bahama Village community to hand out candy to kids for Christmas.
Becca and Piper Sheagren donated teddy bears to needy kids for Christmas! Corey and Peggy Bryan, AKA Santa and Mrs. Claus, at Hershoff, Lupino and Yagel kids Christmas event. Amber and Nick Whiteman help bring Christmas to local youth in Marathon with the assistance of Kids of the Florida Keys.
Detectives in the Lower Keys and Deputies in the Middle Keys helping to unload a truck full of mattresses for people effected by the Hurricane.

SRO Deputies Larry O Neill and Dave Stark had a Christmas gathering of their cadets and explorers for their last meeting of 2017. SRO Deputy Derick Velez had a Christmas party for Explorer/Cadet Posts 904 and 906 at Marathon High School. They had music, food and a gift exchange.

Marathon Sgt. James Hager s squad getting a refresher on evidence handling from Evidence Tech Angie Glover. Training included the proper techniques for submitting blood, DNA and urine samples. Upper Keys Sgt. Scott Ward s squad training with ballistic shields and clearing a room (above) and practicing DUI exercises with the help of Traffic Deputy Orlando Alvarez.
Cleaning up the Keys COMMUNITY CLEANUPS, GRAFFITI ERADICATION, SQUAD CLEANING ACTIVITIES.
Deputy Darrel Walraven spent time over the weekend cleaning up in the Middle Keys. He worked with the Keys Action Network on their Community Cleanup #1 along Aviation Boulevard at the Marathon Animal Shelter. Deputy John Allen continues his efforts to clean up Big Coppitt Key. This boat was towed at the corner of 3rd and Avenue D.
