REGISTRATION & GENERAL INFORMATION Online registration: In person registration: www.kzooparks.org 251 Mills Street Kalamazoo, MI 49048 Summer Registration City Resident Registration: May 7 Open Registration: May 14 Fall Registration Open Registration: August 6 Pre-registration is required for all activities. Payment may be made by check, cash, or credit card and must accompany all registrations. Checks should be made payable to Kalamazoo City Treasurer. Credit cards cannot be accepted over the phone. Late Registration Policy A late fee will apply for any registration completed within three business days of the first day of a program. The late fee is $10 for all programs. Scholarship Information Financial assistance for City Residents on a first come first serve basis and a scholarship application must be completed to determine eligibility. Scholarships are provided by the Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation. Applications are available on our website, the Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation website (kzfriendsofrec. org) or may be picked up at our office. Cancellations The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel activities due to insufficient registration. If an activity is cancelled, participants will receive full refunds. Refund Policy If a program registrant chooses to drop a class prior to the program s start date, a refund less $10 (processing fee) will be provided (per program/per participant). No refunds will be processed once a program has started. Participant Photos If photos are taken of participants in a class, during a special event, or at a city park, they are for Parks and Recreation use only and may be used in Parks and Recreation brochures, pamphlets, flyers or on the City website and or social media accounts. We want to hear from YOU! We are constantly striving to provide the best possible programs and activities for you and your family. The HAPPiFEET app will enable users to share and report their experiences or report any safety concerns in real-time from their GPS location based on a pre-determined site in a city or jurisdiction. Users can add images and / or videos along with text detailing issues to report (dirty facilities, vandalism or other safety issues, graffiti, bad signage, poor lighting) or areas to praise (great customer service, friendly staff, etc.) for individual locations. The HAPPiFEET app will notify staff in real-time and allow staff at custom locations to receive and respond to users concerns in real-time. Patterson Youth Development Center - 230 E. Crosstown Pkwy City resident: $84/weekly; Non-resident: $120/weekly Looking for something for your kids to do all summer but sick of the ordinary? Check out Camp Kzoo! With nine different weeks of special activities and trips to fit each theme your child is sure to have a blast. Registration fee covers the visits to Kik Pool, Rollerworld, Continental Lanes, & K-10 Movie Theater trips. All Camp Kzoo Campers are welcome and will be transported to their site in a City vehicle after breakfast, if needed. Weekly registration required. WHEN Monday - Friday June 18 - August 17 (no camp July 4) 9:00 am - 5:00 pm WHERE Western Michigan University Student Recreation Center 1903 W. Michigan Ave. Free All Things Possible (ATP) is a middle to high school summer transition program designed to eliminate skill gaps from the summer slide. ATP aims to accelerate learning by preparing participants for success in high school, and beyond, by exposing them to various academically enriching opportunities through hands on, experiential learning. Each day will consist of work skills, learning competencies, life skills, recreational activities, talent development, and career/educational exposure. Enrolling in multiple summer camps can be costly, but the good news is there s plenty of free fun to be had with our Super Rec program! These camps are sure to entertain and educate children while giving parents wallets a vacation too. FIELD TRIP FEST SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP Youth, 6-13 years old Youth, 8-14 years old WHEN WEEK 1: August 20-24 WEEK 2: August 27-31 Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am - 9:00 pm WHERE Depart from Mayors Riverfront Park - 251 Mills St. City resident: $180; Non-resident: $265 Field Trip Fest is the perfect capstone to the summer! If your child enjoys having fun, experiencing new things, and hanging out with friends, this is the ultimate program for them! Swimsuits, lunches, and snacks are needed for this week to keep the energy level high as we travel around the state. Register quickly as the spots fill fast! If you miss registration, be sure to get on the wait list. Registration covers admission on all trips and transportation. Specific trips will be posted on our website in May. *Due to overwhelming popularity, we offer the same trips on two separate weeks. Before families sign up for multiple weeks, we ask that you choose one week so others have the opportunity to register. If there is room as of August 6, you may then register for the open spots. ART AT THE ONA WHEN Monday - Wednesday July 16 - July 18 9:00 am - 12:00 pm *Thursday, July 19 will serve as the make up day for inclimate weather. WHERE Mayors Riverfront Park - Basketball Court - 251 Mills St. City resident: $36; Non-resident: $50 The City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Department and Coach John Buchanan s goal is to explain, demonstrate, and practice specific basketball fundamentals. Skill stations will demonstrate basic fundamentals, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and staying in a defensive stance. There are individual contests that are available to participate in. These competitions provide a fun and competitive environment, while learning the importance of hard work. SIX STARZ SKATE JAM TRAINING Youth, 6-14 years old Beginning skaters of all ages WHEN Monday - Friday June 18 - July 27 (no camp July 4) 3:15 pm - 5:15 pm WHERE Oakwood Neighborhood Association - 3320 Laird Ave. $50 Each week will be spent learning about different artists from all around the world. These artists include, but are not limited to, Salvador Dali, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Jasper Johns, Mary Grand Pre and Andy Warhol. We will use a variety of art mediums, including clay. WHERE Upjohn Park - Skate Park - 1064 Walter St. $30 Back after its inaugural session, Six Starz Skate Jam Training offers beginner skaters the opportunity to develop or refine their skills in a group session setting. Coaches will demonstrate and teach age appropriate basic soccer skills along with explaining the game rules. Program size is limited to the first 25 youth to enroll. T-shirt included with pre-registration. MINI KICKERS SOCCER Youth, 5-7 years old UK INTERNATIONAL SOCCER Youth, 4-16 years old Beginners or travel players, groups will be divided by skill level and age. WHEN Monday - Friday July 16 - July 20 Half day: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Full day: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm WHERE Mayors Riverfront Park - 251 Mills St. Half day: $110; Full day: $170 UK International Soccer is a professional coaching company that will be offering a weeklong developmental camp. The focus will be on advancing each player s individual technique in a fun and safe environment. Each day focuses on a new skill that players will master before using it in fun games and exercises. The days conclude with World Cup tournaments where players are encouraged to utilize what they have learned in a real game. Each week, participants will cover basic drills, skills and participate in scrimmages. Class size is limited to the first 30 youth to enroll. BOWLING LEAGUE WHEN November 5 - December 15 Specific days vary by school 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm WHERE Airway Lanes - 5626 Portage Rd. $58 GOLF LEAGUE WHERE Eastern Hills Golf Course - 6075 East G. Ave. $58 Youth, 6th - 8th grade Students of a participating Kalamazoo middle school have the opportunity to receive 10-15 minutes of fundamental lessons, as well as completing two games each session. Scores and standings are kept through the league and between each school. At the end of the league there will be a team/individual tournament. No equipment is required for participation, shoes and balls are provided by Airway Lanes. Youth, 6th - 8th grade WHEN September 24 - October 27 Specific days vary by school 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Students of a participating Kalamazoo middle school will have the opportunity to learn, or refine, their golf skills in this program. Although participants will be offered a short lesson in the beginning of the program, previous experience is advised. Individual and team tournament will be held at the completion of the program. Student athletes will participate in individual skills and group drills for the first half hour of each session. Scrimmages will dominate the last hour of camp. Space is limited to 28 registrants. *Minimum of 10 participants must be registered by the Friday before the first class. MINI MOXIE VOLLEYBALL WHEN Mondays Session 1: October 1 - November 5 Session 2: November 12 - December 17 6:15 pm - 7:30 pm WHERE Prairie Ridge Elementary - 2294 S. 9th St. Location subject to change Youth, 3rd - 6th grade with limited to no volleyball experience $40/session This fun and instructional volleyball program introduces participants to the exciting world of volleyball. Students will practice the four basic volleyball skills: passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Playing with lighter balls, lower nets, and modified rules; this class is perfect for beginners! As players progress, some competitive games and scrimmaging may be implemented at instructor s discretion. ECO RAFT RACE There is something special about watching a movie under the stars, luckily Kzoo Parks will give you four chances to do that this summer! We bring the movies to you with a large inflatable screen placed in the parks you already play in. So get the family, grab a blanket, and meet us at the parks! Spectators are encouraged to follow the entire race by walking down the KRVT and join in the after party fun at Arcadia. Vessel entry gets the crew food and drink at Arcadia. Foot Golf is back again for the third year at Red Arrow Golf Course. This sport combines the elements of soccer and golf to create a fun-filled game that all ages can enjoy. A soccer ball replaces the golf ball and your feet are used instead of clubs. No prior experience needed, a round can be enjoyed by the entire family. Tee times are limited to four people. STATION 5 Youth, Finished Kindergarten - 12 years old KALAMAZOO GROWLERS 2018 SCHEDULE WHEN Monday - Friday September 17 - December 21 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm WHERE Station 5 Community Center - 619 Douglas Ave. $30 Station 5 is an after-school program that offers academic assistance for all that attend. The completion of homework, as well as 20 minutes of reading, is required each day. After academic work is complete the students are allowed to participate in recreational activities provided by the City. Activities include air hockey, foosball, arts and crafts and computer use. Upon arrival, students are given a healthy snack prior to the start of homework. There are also various field trips scheduled throughout the program. No program on KPS No School Days or ½ days for elementary schools. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER Youth, Finished Kindergarten - 12 years old WHEN Monday - Friday September 17 - December 21 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm WHERE Youth Development Center - 230 E. Crosstown Pkwy $30 The YDC is an after-school program that offers homework help as well as recreational activities once daily homework tasks have been completed.
