Work Experience & volunteers Work experience via a work placement program can give you valuable insight into what working in Aged Care is really like. Whether you are a student or a mature aged person seeking a change, work placement programs are available through job network agencies, registered training organisations or school work experience programs. Australian Apprenticeships A comprehensive range of apprenticeships and traineeships are available for people of all ages. Apprenticeships align with traditional trades like horticulture and cookery. Traineeships are shorter and include a range of qualifications in the industry. Contact your local Australian Apprenticeship Centre for details. School Based Programmes School-based traineeships and apprenticeships are also available through your school. These include Certificate II and III courses that you can undertake at school, starting in Year 10 and contributes to the completion of your High School Certificate. Where could I work? Residents are usually independent, but care and services may be provided in the home of the resident by the village operator or another provider. There are common facilities where activities take place that are fun and inclusive of all residents. Home and Community Services Care and services are provided in the home of the care recipient to assist them to live independently. This can range from personal care, to shopping or housekeeping. Wellness centre Wellness centres offer regular planned activities and programs and social opportunities for older people, such as exercise classes or planned outings. Transport to and from the venue, morning tea and lunch can be included. It is usually a busy day also filled with fun and laughter. Hostel style single room accommodation with an en-suite and shared dining and lounge facilities. Residents can be independent and still require assistant with personal care, meals and activities of daily living. Residential care facilities provide a range of services to a diverse group of people who require supervised clinical care 24 hours a day.
