T the best f the services ability, precautinary measures will be implemented t supprt the health, safety and wellbeing f thse attending the service. Prcedure T supprt the health, safety and wellbeing f thse attending the service: a risk assessment will be cnducted t identify ptential and relevant emergencies t the service; a flr plan and relevant instructins will be prminently displayed near each exit in relatin t each identified emergency and evacuatin prcedure (e.g. evacuatins and invacuatins); relevant emergency and evacuatin prcedures will be rehearsed and dcumented every 3 mnths that the service is perating. Educatrs, children and vlunteers wh are present at the time f the rehearsal, will be invlved in the rehearsal; the utcme f the emergency r evacuatin rehearsal will be discussed with the children n the cmpletin f each rehearsal. Identified emergency and evacuatin prcedures include: Break In Prcedure 1. Where a break in has ccurred, ntify the Plice f the break in and fllw any instructins given, including restricting access t the area. 2. Ensure the Senir Management Team (if nt present) are ntified. 3. Ascertain any damage that may have ccurred, using the daily hazard checklist. 4. Where the Plice have instructed access t the area is t be restricted, r where damage has ccurred that may pse a threat t the health r safety t children, an alternative area will be used until the area is deemed safe by the Senir Management Team r ther relevant party (e.g. Tasmania Plice, Tasmania Fire Services). 5. Where an alternative area is used, parents 1 are t be ntified. If the area is nt currently listed as a regular excursin, every effrt will be made t receive the parents 1 written permissin regarding immediate use f the area; A risk assessment will be cnducted regarding the suitability f the prpsed temprary area; The Educatin and Care Unit (ECU) must als be ntified f any impending changes t the premises. 6. Ntify the insurance cmpany f the break in. 7. Cmplete the required dcumentatin in regard t the insurance claim and/r plice reprt. Serius injury f child 1. A suitably qualified, senir staff member 2 is t apply first aid and call r direct smene else t call an ambulance r ther relevant emergency service, as required. 2. The child s parents 1 are t be cntacted and ntified f the situatin. 3. The Senir Management Team are t be ntified.
4. A full reprt is t be cmpleted regarding the incident, including any relevant dcumentatin required (i.e. incident reprt). 5. The Educatin and Care Unit (ECU) must be ntified within 24 hurs f the incident r the time the persn becmes aware f the incident. Armed hld-up/abductin/hstage Situatin 1. If safe t d s, staff are t mve all children and thers present at the service t the designated lckdwn area 3. At all times, the safety f the children and staff is paramunt. 2. Where pssible and safe t d s: Cntact Tasmania Plice; Cntact the Senir Management Team; The Senir Management Team will ntify the parents f any children invlved; 3. If a serius incident, the ECU must be ntified within 24 hurs f the incident r the time the persn becmes aware f the incident. 4. Apprpriate supprt services will be ffered t the family, children and staff. Where an armed persn enters the service: 5. Staff are t cperate with the demands made t minimise the danger as much as pssible. 6. Where safe t d s, mve all children and ther persns t the designated lck dwn area 3. 7. If the persn demands mney r ther items, hand ver the requested items at all times the safety f children and all ther persns is paramunt. 8. Staff are t make every attempt t nte all pssible details abut persn including: the physical features (e.g. scars; height in relatin t dr frame); clthing (e.g. mask r hd; clur; style); jewellery; details f the vehicle (registratin number, directin f travel; a useful methd f getting details f vehicle registratin number is fr ne persn t remember numbers and anther t remember letters); 9. When the intruder has left, cntact Tasmania Plice immediately (000). 10. Ntify, if nt present, the Senir Management Team, wh will in turn ntify the Bard f Directrs in a timely manner. 11. Plice, n their arrival, will assume cntrl frm the Senir Management Team. 12. A senir staff member 2 nt immediately invlved in the emergency situatin will evaluate if staff/children are suffering shck. Where it is apparent smene is suffering frm the immediate effects f shck: a suitably qualified first aider will cmmence administering first aid; if necessary, medical attentin must be rganised immediately (e.g. ambulance); the respnsible persn at the service will cntact family members f staff/children. 13. An Incident Reprt is t be cmpleted by each witness n the day f the incident. 14. An incident 'de-brief', t be cnducted by apprpriate prfessinal persnnel, is t be held within 48 hurs, with all staff invlved in the incident; and children, if apprpriate, and with parental permissin. 15. The Senir Management Team and at least ne senir staff 2 member will review the relevant security prcedures within 48 hurs and where applicable implement revised security strategies. Fire Evacuatin Prcedure All staff must be aware f the: 1. Lcatin f the telephne and number f Fire Brigade. 2. Lcatin f exits. 3. Lcatin f the relevant assembly area.
4. The identity f the Chief Warden 4. Actin t be taken by persn discvering the fire: On becming aware f any signs f a fire (e.g. smell r hearing the fire alarm): 1. Ensure that any persn wh may be in immediate danger is remved frm the immediate area. 2. Extinguish the fire if safe t d s. 3. Ntify the Chief Warden 4. 4. Where time permits and safe t d s, clse all windws and drs. Actin t be taken by Chief Warden 4 (as required): 1. Cnfirm the Fire Brigade have been ntified. 2. Raise the alarm by blwing the whistle. 3. Crdinate the evacuatin f the centre, including the delegatin f duties t ther staff members as required (e.g. each staff member t supprt children in their area f respnsibility t mve in a quiet and rderly manner t the safest and clsest exit area [in regard t psitin f the fire]). 4. Cllect the cntact list, attendance sheets, staff rster and nearest mbile phne. 5. Place ntice n frnt dr, if safe t d s. 6. Ensure all areas are checked, including sleep areas, staff rm and tilets, t ensure all children, staff and visitrs are evacuated. 7. Exit via the clsest and safest exit pint and prceed with children and staff t the designated assembly area 5. 8. The Chief Warden 4 will cnduct a rll call t ensure all staff and children and ther persns present are accunted fr. 9. Meet and liaise with the fire brigade. 10. N-ne must re-enter the building until permissin has been given by the Fire Brigade r, in the case f a drill, by the Chief Warden 4 r CEO. Bmb Threat Reprt the threat immediately t Tasmania Plice (000). Fllw any instructins given by Tasmania Plice (even where cntrary t this prcedure). Alert anther persn f the situatin, s an evacuatin can cmmence (where applicable, the duress buttn may be used fr this). The Bmb Threat Checklist is t be implemented (a cpy f the checklist will be stred at each relevant telephne at the service). Written Threat Where a written threat has been received: D nt handle letter/envelpe unnecessarily. Place in plastic envelpe t retain evidence (e.g. fingerprints, pstmarks). Ntify Tasmania Plice. Ntify the Senir Management Team. Actins t be taken n receipt f a bmb threat: Stay CALM and LISTEN. Gain the ATTENTION f the Directr/clleague. A senir staff member 2 must cntact Tasmania Plice and the ambulance. 2. If ther children are present, relcate children t anther area and supprt children. 3. Cntact CEO. 4. Where the child s parents are nt already in attendance at the service, the plice will ntify the child s parents. 5. The CEO and any ther staff invlved in incident t write a full reprt; which may be requested by the Bard f Directrs, the ECU and/r Tasmania Plice. 6. The ECU must be ntified as sn as practicable but within 24 hurs f the death, r the time that the persn becmes aware f the death. 7. Apprpriate supprt services will be ffered t the family, children and staff In additin t and t supprt the abve prcedures the service will: Infrm and make available t parents 1 the service's plicies and prcedures. Verify any changes t the cllectin arrangements regarding children being educated and cared fr by the service. After an identified serius incident, a prfessinally run de-briefing sessin will be held fr all staff invlved as sn as pssible. Where applicable, supprt services will be ffered t all relevant children and families. Parents 1 will: Ntify the service f any changes t persns authrised t cllect their child/ren. Ntify the service f any arrangements r rders authrised under a relevant Family Law legislatin. Ntify the service f any changes t arrangements regarding the cllectin f their child/ren. Sign children 'in' n arrival, and 'ut' n departure, n a daily basis.
