1 SISO Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) The Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) invites you to participate in our Spring 2014 SISO Technical Interchange (TIM) Meeting at the Advanced Distributed Learning Collaborative Laboratory, Alexandria, Virginia, on March 11-12, SISO is an international organization dedicated to the promotion of interoperability and reuse of models, simulations, and associated data for the benefit of program managers, engineers, developers, users, and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) professionals worldwide. The Spring 2014 SISO TIM provides an excellent opportunity for SISO working groups to co-locate to participate in the development of standardization products that capture and formalize best practices, lessons learned, and professional experiences that will advance the use of models, simulations, and associated data to better support the needs of communities such as acquisition, analysis, cyber, experimentation, intelligence, medical, planning, test and evaluation, training, and virtual games. Joining us to help kick off our Spring 2014 SISO TIM will be Ms. Karen Jackson, the Commonwealth of Virginia Secretary of Technology. Ms. Jackson is an advocate for M&S and the value that M&S offers as a potential enabler to support cybersecurity, health care, energy, and other avenues. Ms. Jackson will be sharing her vision and the importance to continue innovating standards and expanding its reuse application, and discovery. Our featured Product Development Group (PDG) for the Spring 2014 SISO TIM is the Acquisition M&S PDG that is developing a standards profile. The profile, which will be captured in two volumes, will provide a recommended set of M&S artifacts, standards, and practices that offer guidance to users as they execute in their projects during an acquisition life cycle phase. 2 SISO TIM Speaker Biographies Karen Jackson serves as a senior advisor to the Governor on technology matters including modeling and simulation, telecommunications, telework, and unmanned aerial systems. In these areas, she has been responsible for policy and legislative initiatives as well as developing programs to facilitate innovation, collaborations, technology development and adoption. Ms. Jackson serves as the Virginia lead for the Mid- Atlantic Aviation Partnership with New Jersey. Prior to her current appointment, she served as Deputy Secretary of Technology and director of the Commonwealth's Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance. Ms. Jackson has been actively engaged in the federal policy initiatives including the development of the National Broadband Plan. She received a 2009 IP3 award from Public Knowledge for her work in information policy and was named to Government Technology's 2010 list of the top 25 Doers, Dreamers, and Drivers. Ms. Jackson serves on a number of Boards including the Virginia Telehealth Network, the Information Technology Advisory Council, the Policy Committee of the National Modeling and Simulation Coalition, and the National Center for Collaboration in Medical Modeling and Simulation. She holds a bachelor's of science in business management from Christopher Newport University and a master's of business administration from The College of William and Mary. Michael O Connor is the SISO Executive Committee Chair and is a Senior Principal Engineer at Trideum Corporation. Mr. O Connor has more than 20 years experience in Modeling and Simulation (M&S). He has been a key participant in the development of distributed modeling and simulation standards, including IEEE 1278 and IEEE He has held many positions in the community, including Chairman of the SISO Standards Activities Committee and Vice-Chairman of the SISO Executive Committee. He served as the chair of the I/ITSEC Simulation Subcommittee. Mr. O Connor previously led the development of the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Simulation Suite, which supports Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), High Level Architecture (HLA), and Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA). Mr. O Connor has led the technical integration of several large multi-architecture distributed events including the Multi-Served Distributed Event (MSDE) in 2005 that used DIS, HLA, and TENA. MSDE included over 20 sites and included organizations from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. He holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Auburn University, and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Mr. O Connor is a Certified, M&S Professional.

Since then, it has produced dozens of standards for technological and methodological aspects of the M&S activity. These standards are published by SISO itself or by IEEE.
