2 Security of Geophysical Operations E&P activities are being and will continue to be conducted in numerous areas where Security related Risks are present; Geophysical Operations have been conducted for decades and Security Risks have always existed; But they are becoming more frequent in terms of; - Terrorist activities in the Middle East and South America. - Civil Unrest in African countries. - Piracy in Gulf of Guinea and Indian Ocean. - Vandalism and Theft is on the rise - especially in North America 2

3 Security of Geophysical Operations Geophysical Operations must sometimes be carried out in areas exposed to Security Related risks of a Criminal, Civil, Tribal, Political or Terrorist nature. These Risks can be Regional or Location specific and can include Mugging, Theft, Murder, Blackmail, Extortion, threats, Car Hi-jacking, Kidnapping or Piracy. Fatalities can be in the multiples of 10 3

4 Security of Geophysical Operations Geophysical Industry is uniquely exposed within the E&P Industry; - Usually the first in to an area. - Flexible Operation (not fixed) Migration through the Prospect Area. (Both Land and Marine Operations.) - Huge Footprint. (hard to protect) - Working in Remote / Isolated areas. - Availability of National Support. (Army & Local Police) - Easy Oil found so clients are moving to more challenging areas where security is a prime concern. With unique exposure comes unique challenges; - Logistical, Personnel, Cultural - Security issues - HSE - Challenges are Dynamic, Changing, Evolving etc. 4

11 IAGC - Security & ERW Guidelines Document is now in its Final Draft and is being circulated within the Industry for its final reading. Deadline for Feedback in terms of Content, is the 14 th October. Meeting will be held in London to discuss any final deletions or insertions etc. during October/November Document will then be presented to the IAGC Steering Committee before final approval and publication. 11
