1 TEXAS POLICE TRAINERS Volume 2 / Issue 1 January 2018 MISSION STATEMENT To serve the law enforcement community by providing quality law enforcement training information, valuable resources and networking. MOVING FORWARD IN 2018 Two major announcements for 2018 as we move Texas Police Trainers to the next level: First, in the Fall of 2018 Texas Police Trainers will be awarding its first scholarship(s) to a dependent child of a law enforcement individual (Peace Officer, Jailer or Telecommunication) that subscribe to the Texas Police Trainers website. The funds come from proceeds from our online store and donations. We challenge all of subscribers that have not already done so to go to the online store at and support the vision by purchasing a Signature Mug. They make great gifts, and/or a keepsake to support the cause. If you don't want a mug, you can go to our homepage and "Make A Donation". We challenge all of you to donate a minimum of $5.00, you can donate more if you like, however no amount is too small. All proceeds are going to the Scholarship Fund. A committee is being formed to draft the application and review scholarship packets. Secondly, Texas Police Trainers has been in existence since March 2008 as a free training site, however beginning January 1st Texas Police Trainers will launch as a paid subscriber site. The subscriber fee will be $36.00 a year with perks of free training (T.B.D.) offered around the state. Current subscribers will have 30 days to pay their subscriber fee of $36.00, after the 30 days accounts will go inactive. New subscribers will have a 30 day Free trial subscription. I hope you all agree that the website is worth $3 a month, which equates to a bag of chips and a soda. AVAILABLE IN OUR ONLINE STORE Our Signature Mug is now available in our online store. Please support our efforts by purchasing a mug, proceeds from our store will be donated to programs that support Texas law enforcement (i.e. dependent scholarships, Texas Peace Officer Memorial, etc.) The fee will cover: 1. Yearly website hosting and domain support 2. Website maintenance and upgrades 3. DropBox fees to contain shared instructor resources 4. Scholarship Fund 5. Annual donation to Texas Peace Officer Memorial Fund 6. Part-time Administrative Assistant to help support the website 7. Travel expenses & vendor cost for conference attendance 8. Marketing/advertising campaign 9. Support for other law enforcement programs 10. Any future expenses not currently identified We hope you all will continue to support Texas Police Trainers and our vision for it. We started Texas Police Trainers because of you all and here we are almost 10 years later, bridging the gap between the training world and the law enforcement community we support. MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Don t wait until the last minute to get your mandated training and your proficiency certification training completed. Go to our website under Training Resources and check out the 2018 Consolidated Training Calendar for in 1

2 classroom instructions, and Online Training Providers for their course listings for online training. In the upcoming weeks, we will be adding additional online training providers. There are also new legislative training requirements that will focus on communication skills, mental health, crisis intervention training, and de-escalation techniques, as well as the new 85 th Legislative Update course, so be on the lookout for those training courses on our Consolidated Training Calendar. Texas Police Trainers has recently completed an update of TCOLE s course 3232 Special Investigative Topics which is available for download to all TCOLE contracted training providers. Go to the Instructor Portal on our website and access the Shared Instructor Material (Training Coordinators Only) DropBox. We are looking forward to a productive and interactive training unit as we move forward. We are excited about getting you all connected to all the training occurring across the state for the remaining of the year and moving into 2018, so make sure you go to our website and view the 2018 Consolidated Training Calendar, and the online training providers. Also check out our new Instructor Portal, which we hope will help training coordinators and agency administration maximize their training budgets by locating instructors in their region and/or nearby regions. On behalf of Texas Police Trainers and our all-volunteer Directors, we want to thank you for your service to the state and your community. It has truly been a pleasure serving the Texas law enforcement community for nearly 10 years through Texas Police Trainers. ABOUT US We are a one-stop-shop resource for all your law enforcement training and networking needs. We offer resources to law enforcement training, scholarships for dependent children, information on law enforcement associations, employment opportunity, plus a whole lot more... Texas Police Trainers was originally established as the "Texas Police Trainers Yahoo Group" back in March 2008 as a mean to connect the dots and bridge law enforcement training. The original training site was created as a restricted site for Texas Law Enforcement individuals, and we are excited and pleased to be able to continue our exclusive law enforcement network. Because the previous training network had grown so much, as the moderator of the training website I envisioned this as an opportunity to grow the network into what is now the Texas Police Trainers. The new Texas Police Trainers is well-rounded and can accommodate the demands of the subscribers we serve. SERVICES WE PROVIDE Awards Nomination Opportunities Honoring our Texas Fallen Heroes Instructor Portal (Shared Instructor Resources) Law Enforcement Associations Law Enforcement Grant Listings Law Enforcement Training (Consolidated Statewide Training Calendar) Scholarships (Dependent & Commission individuals) Law Enforcement Job Vacancies (commissioned and civilian positions) Online Store Texas Law Enforcement Vendors What's trending in Texas law enforcement?
