April is going to be a busy month as usual with many events being held at the post. Check the calendar for all the events. Our first round of nominations for Post Officers went well with nominees for all elected positions except for 1 which I m reasonably sure will be filled at this month s membership meeting on April 15 th at 7pm. Also if you are interested in any of the appointed positions such as adjutant, chaplain, PRO or historian don t hesitate to let me know of your interest. If you missed the Saint Patrick s Day corn beef and cabbage you missed a really good meal for $7.00. The trustee s did a great job preparing the food. As a reminder the June Annual Department Convention is 6-8 June in Orlando. If you want to attend as a post delegate please let me know. Room reservations have to be made by May 1 st. The Post pays for Convention registration. The Post will also pay for 2 night s hotel accommodations if monies are available. Any AMVET member of this post can be a delegate. In closing I d like to thank everyone for the support you give our post as AMVETS, Amvets, Ladies Auxiliary, Sons, and Riders 105 John King Road Crestview, Fl Ladies Auxiliary, Son s, Riders and employee staff. You all are the reason we have the best Post in Florida. It s springtime and isn t the weather beautiful? Watch your calendar for all the fun things coming up in the next few weeks. Our Scholarship Officer, Rachel, is hosting a Scavenger Hunt on April 12 to benefit our scholarship fund. If you attended last year s you know how much fun we had, so mark your calendars and come on out. Ladies, load your purses because you don t know what might be on that list. The Easter party for the kiddies will be on Saturday, the 19 th from 2 to 4 with an egg hunt, games, prizes and good food free for the kids. Our 2 nd Vice, Joni, always does a great job so I know you will all have fun. The Post is smoke free from 2 to 4 so all you grown-ups, please remember to go out to the patio to smoke. We appreciate your compliance with this. The building fund dinners are back on again on the 4 th Saturday of every month. Keep an eye on the calendar for what s on the menu and come out and support this effort and watch

It does take a lot of money to expand but the building committee has some great ideas in the works. Let s give them all our support in their efforts. We are in the process of revising our by-laws and the first reading of the proposed changes will be at our April meeting, April 1 st. The second reading will be at our May meeting and we will vote on them at that time. A copy of the proposed changes will be posted on the bulletin board if you would like to read them. We will have our first round of nominations for officers at the April meeting. If you are interested in holding a position, we elect a President, 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer and Chaplain. The newly elected President will then appoint a Sgt-at-Arms, Parliamentarian, PRO, Americanism Officer, Hospital Officer, Scholarship Officer and SEC Woman. We need to fill these positions. The second round of nominations and elections will be at the May meeting and the new Officers take over their duties on June 1 st. Hope to see you at our meeting in April. 3 Second Vice Commander Programs Programs is starting out the year really slow. I really need your help, not to do anything out of the ordinary, but just to report the activities that you are doing anyway. We are all involved in doing community service. Have you helped a neighbor with lawn work? Did you take a bag of clothing up to Goodwill? How about dropping off some dog food at the local shelter? Did you look after someone s pets while they were on vacation? Visited an elderly person to check on them? Gone on a benefit poker run? Have you done anything, for anyone, without being paid to do it? If so, you ve got something that s reportable. There are some misconceptions about programs. The Post doesn t get any money from the reports turned in. Instead, the benefit is that our community service allows us to remain a nonprofit organization. There are many ways to report your programs. You can do it yourself by going online to the AMVETS National web site. Select the Programs dropdown, click on Programs Reporting, then scroll down to the blue Report Your Programs. You ll use your membership number and set your own password. Once you ve done that select Add New Program Data and put in your information on the spreadsheet. If you re not sure what category your report goes in, just select Other. You ll need a brief description of what you did, how many people did it, how many hours it took, how many miles you drove, the amount it cost you and any cash you donated. Then select Preview Data to make sure you don t need to make any changes, then Submit Data. If you don t want to do the report on line, just fill out your report on a piece of paper and leave it with the bartender. All I need is a short description of what you did, hour many people helped in the project, how many hours, how many miles you drove, and any expenses or cash donations. Or you can just drop me an with your information - my e- mail is at the bottom of the report. Bottom line, I know that everyone is doing so much for others. By reporting this information you ll be able to help the Post. Think about it what did you do this week? The scavenger hunt should be a blast but be prepared for a surprise. You never know what those ladies are going to ask for. Also there is the kids Easter egg hunt be sure to bring your children or grandchildren they will have so much fun. Joni does a great job with the parties. And don t forget about our monthly dinners. Please be aware when we have a children s event and our dinners there is no smoking inside. We thank you for your patience and cooperation. Every Saturday this month we have great bands, come check them out. Also please don t forget about the next few months. May is going to be very busy. We hope to see you all here for the golf tournament. Whether you play or just support the players. The golf committee is asking for help finding hole sponsors. If anyone knows someone that will do this remember it is a tax right off. Get with me and I will give you everything needed.
