William Fulbright to increase mutual respect and understanding di between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges. 1957: An Bord Scoláireachtaí Cómhalairte 1991: Ireland United States (Fulbright) Commission for Educational Exchange established by Irish legislation as a body with charitable status, supported by the US Department of State and the Department of Foreign Affairs to operate the Fulbright Program.

9 Eligibility Irish citizen, or EU Citizen living in the Republic of Ireland for 3+ years Demonstrate t academic & personal excellence, strong rationale for going to the US, a robust program of study, research or lecturing, strong leadership skills or potential; understanding & commitment to the ethos of being a Fulbrighter Willing to comply with the 2 year home rule Not a dual US-Irish citizen, green card holder, or currently living in the US Not have extensive experience of studying or living in the US

10 Irish Student Awards Fulbright Irish Student Awards For postgraduate Irish or EU Citizens in all disciplines Monetary award - Max $20,000 For Visiting Researchers or Degree-Seeking Students Must establish affiliation/ apply for degree course with U.S. institution 4-12 months duration Competition closes 4pm 30 th October 2015

11 Irish Scholar Awards Fulbright Irish Scholars Awards For postdoctoral/professional t l Irish or EU Citizens in all disciplinesi Monetary Award: Max $15,000 for full academic year Must possess a PhD or 5 years relevant professional experience To research and/or lecture in US Must establish affiliation with U.S. institution 3-12 months duration Competition closes 4pm 30 th October 2015

12 Award Categories Fulbright TechImpact Scholar Awards Cross disciplinary ICT Monetary Award: Max $12,000 For scholars / professionals in any discipline using ICT Must possess a PhD or 3-5 years relevant professional experience Irish Tech- Impact Awards Non-commercial research exploring the transformative power of communication technology across all disciplines. Education, mobile tech, digital arts & culture projects particularly encouraged 2 weeks-3 months duration Preference is given to early career researchers (PhD conferred since 2011) Fulbright-University of Notre Dame TechImpact Scholar Awards: Language Technology based at University of Notre Dame s Center for the Study of Languages & Cultures (CSLC) 3 months duration Competition closes 4pm 30 th October 2015

Policies, and E.U.-U.S. Relations Managed by the Fulbright Commission of Belgium but Irish/EU applicants are eligible to apply DEADLINE: 1 ST December 2015 See for more details Candidates can only apply to one Commission in any one year

Generally - join the Commission s e newsletter subscription service, nominate a central point of contact for the Commission Activities consider collaborating with the Commission on events and activities with awardees and alumni Did you know thatt US citizens can apply for Fulbright Awards to visit it Ireland & Irish institutions can support these visits? For US Awards Consider funding a US Scholar / Student in future competitions or co-funding Scholars with the Commission. Minimum contributions: Student: 12k for 6 months, 18 for a full academic year Scholar: 13,500 for 3 months, 42K for a full academic year For US Specialist & Inter-country Awards consider submitting an expression of interest to host a Specialist / Inter-country Scholar when the Commission circulates its calls for application.
