RespiteCare at home service Adult Carer Support Are you an unpaid adult Carer and need a break? Access the FREE Respite at Home Service
Looking after me helped me to continue caring for longer.
About the Respite Care at home service The Carers Respite at Home Service offers Free short term respite to unpaid carers 18+ who may be struggling to manage their caring role and may need a break (planned or unplanned) to prevent a crisis or breakdown in care. Carers tell us how important taking a break is to them: Accessing respite has improved our quality of life from the point of feeling entrapped by the caring role and feeling that no support was available to being given support, information and advice. Relationships have improved and we have a holiday booked. This would not have been possible without the help and support of our support worker. Still not sure if the Respite Service is for you? To find out more about the Respite Service contact Carers First on: Caring with confidence Holiday break Family emergency
What is Respite Care? Respite can support carer s to take time out from their role and responsibilities, this could be to attend: Training or Education such as Caring with Confidence Health and Wellbeing appointments Support with discharge from hospital A family emergency For a holiday or break To go shopping or meet up with friends Respite at Home Service does not offer personal care but can: Support with dressing Preparation of meals Light household chores Spend time with the cared for Engage the cared for in activities Still not sure you are eligible? To be eligible for the Respite at Home Service the cared for will not be in receipt of a care package from Adult Social Care, either because they do not want one or because they are not entitled to a care package at this time. A Community Care Package is when the cared for receives support with tasks such as bathing and dressing, meals preparation, housework etc. To find out if you are eligible and to access the Respite at Home Service you can call Carers First on An Adult Carer Support Worker will then complete a brief assessment of your needs, the days and times that respite is required, what the cared for will need support with. We will pass your details to Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) who will provide the respite. Accessing respite has improved our quality of life.
Case Study Family emergency A carer accessed the Respite at Home Service when she fractured her foot and was unable to temporarily support her elderly, frail mother with her care needs, such as helping with dressing, preparing meals, shopping and cleaning etc. There was no community care package in place and the carer was concerned about how she and her mother would manage. The carer was already registered with Carers First so she rang and spoke to one of our Adult Carer Support Worker s about her situation. We talked to her about the Respite at Home Service, and that it was available for up to 12 weeks. The carer asked us if someone could go in around 9am Monday to Friday to support her mum with dressing, preparing breakfast and to do some lights household chores. She also required someone to go in at lunchtime, again to support with meal preparation and for some company for the cared for. Support with hospital discharge Recreational activities The Respite at Home Service was put in place the following day for six weeks, supporting them through the crisis, enabling both the carer and the cared for to remain in their own homes, without too much disruption to their daily routines.
Relationships have improved and we have a holiday booked.
