3 Board of Behavioral Sciences Required Coursework 1 The Board of Behavioral Sciences (hereinafter, BBS) requires the following additional pre-licensure coursework for those individuals seeking licensure as an LCSW: Aging and Long-term Care (10 hours) 2 Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting (7 hours) Human Sexuality (10 hours) Spousal/Partner Abuse Assessment and Reporting (15 hours) 3 Substance Abuse and Dependency (15 hours) The BBS requires the following additional coursework for persons already licensed as an LCSW: Aging and Long Term Care (3 hours) HIV/AIDS (7 hours) Law and Ethics (6 hours, every renewal period) Spousal/Partner Abuse Assessment and Reporting (7 hours) The BBS requires the following additional pre-licensure coursework for those individuals seeking licensure as an MFT: Aging and Long-term Care (10 hours) 4 California Law and Professional Ethics (2 semester units or 3 quarter units) 5 Child Abuse Assessment and Reporting (7 hours) Human Sexuality (10 hours) Psychopharmacology (2 semester units or 3 quarter units only for those who entered a qualifying degree program on or after 1/1/2001) 5 Psychological Testing (2 semester units or 3 quarter units only for those who entered a qualifying degree program on or after 1/1/2001) 5 Spousal/Partner Abuse Assessment and Reporting (15 hours) 6 Substance Abuse and Dependency (15 hours) The BBS requires the following additional coursework for persons already licensed as an MFT: Aging and Long Term Care (3 hours) HIV/AIDS (7 hours) Law and Ethics (6 hours, every renewal period) Spousal/Partner Abuse Assessment and Reporting (7 hours) 1 All mandated courses are one-time only courses and are required for your first renewal. The only exception is the Law and Ethics course. Law and Ethics must be taken for each renewal period. 2 Ten (10) hours of coursework is required for anyone who entered their degree program on or after January 1, For all others this is not a pre-licensure requirement. 3 Fifteen (15) hours of coursework is required for anyone who entered their degree program on or after January 1, There is no minimum requirement for those who entered their degree program between January 1, 1995 and December 31, Ten (10) hours of coursework is required for anyone who entered their degree program on or after January 1, For all others this is not a pre-licensure requirement. 5 Not currently offered by CSULB s CEU Program. 6 Fifteen (15) hours of coursework is required for anyone who entered their degree program on or after January 1, There is no minimum requirement for those who entered their degree program between January 1, 1995 and December 31, Page 2

4 COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Aging and Long-term Care, Parts I and II 10 CEUs These workshops provide in-depth knowledge and clinical skills related to health/mental health issues, death and dying, grief and loss, human relationship and sexuality, elder abuse/neglect, aging and human development, long-term care planning, and cultural and spiritual issues while increasing awareness of societal stigma and personal biases. Child Abuse 7 CEUs This workshop addresses legal, ethical, and clinical aspects of child abuse and neglect, including mandatory reporting law and professional responsibility, child welfare system, assessment and identification of abuse and/or neglect, prevention and specialized intervention techniques. HIV/AIDS 7 CEUs This workshop provides both historical overview and the most current information and resources on HIV/AIDS, including assessment and treatment trends, legal and ethical issues, impacts on life and human relationships, cultural and spiritual influences, future recommendations and research studies. Human Sexuality 10 CEUs This workshop discusses anatomy of human sexuality, sexual functions and disorders, common sexual difficulties, sexually transmitted diseases, various sexual behaviors and cultural experiences, and issues of sexual orientation and gender identification, while introducing assessment tools and current intervention techniques. Law and Ethics 6 CEUs This workshop provides an overview of best practices in laws and ethics, especially laws and regulations that affect social work practice. Ethical decision-making processes are reviewed using case examples that address ethical dilemma while addressing professional responsibilities and obligations. Spirituality and Social Work Practice 7 CEUs This course will inform participants about research supporting the positive relationship between spirituality, religious involvement, and well-being. Participants will have an opportunity to explore their own spirituality. Doing so will provide them the opportunity to become more receptive of providing spiritually sensitive practice while respecting various beliefs systems. Participants will be encouraged to respond to their spiritual needs, strengths, and experiences as well as learn about social work practice modalities that include spirituality. Spousal/Partner Abuse, Parts I and II 15 CEUs These workshops explore various types of abuse and impacts of violence while addressing risk factors, safety issues, assessment for clinical signs and symptoms, crisis management, ethical and legal concerns, interpersonal issues, specific interventions for trauma, and cultural variations including nontraditional partner relationships. Substance Abuse, Parts I and II 15 CEUs These workshops discuss commonly used drugs and their effects, diagnosis and various assessment tools, impacts on individuals/families and community, use of community resources, evidence-based practices and treatment trends, interventions for various phases in recovery, and future recommendations. 5 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration forms and payment must reach CSULB at least fourteen (14) days prior to the date of your first scheduled workshop. Each workshop listed in this catalog will contain its own unique deadline date. Deadlines for registration and/or payment of the pre-packaged workshops are based on the date of the first workshop in the series. COMMUNICATION CEU Program staff will send communication by way of . It is imperative that you provide an active address. You should note that many ISPs and institutional administrators automatically block, delay, or junk-folder from CSULB. Please check your junk folders often or add CSULB to your safe list. PAYMENT The only acceptable form of payment is by personal check or money order made payable to CSULB Foundation. Payment should be mailed to: Deborah Repp CSULB School of Social Work, SSPA Bellflower Boulevard Long Beach, California LATE FEE A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed for all missed deadlines. Contacting the office to indicate your intent to register does not eliminate the assessment of late fees. The deadline to register and pay for any workshop is fourteen (14) days prior to the workshop. In the case of pre-packaged workshops, the deadline is fourteen (14) days prior to the first workshop in the series. CONFIRMATION/RECEIPTS CSULB will send you a confirmation /receipt for payment after your registration and payment has been processed. All workshops will take place within the CSULB campus; however, the room location cannot be confirmed until the Monday prior to the scheduled workshop. This will indicate which workshop(s) you registered for and how much you paid, including any late fees. Please review it carefully for accuracy. A certificate of completion will be issued at the conclusion of each workshop. Only the hours you are present can be credited, therefore, if you arrive late or leave early your certificate will be adjusted accordingly. CANCELLATION/POSTPONEMENT OF WORKSHOP BY CSULB There may be times when CSULB will need to postpone or cancel a workshop. CSULB staff will make all reasonable efforts to notify you by at least seven (7) days prior to the workshop date. If a workshop is postponed you will be offered a choice of attending on the new date or receiving a full refund for that workshop, including any late fees you paid for the rescheduled workshop. If a workshop is canceled you will be given a full refund of all fees, including any late fees you paid for the canceled workshop. If you paid for a series of workshops your refund will be calculated based on the discount rate you received. REFUND/NON-ATTENDANCE POLICY Due to the nature and cost of processing registration fees, refunds will not be issued for workshops that do take place. However, you may request a rain check for any missed workshop due to unforeseen circumstances. Your request must be made within seven (7) days of the missed workshop and can either be good for the next time that workshop is given (usually in the next academic year), or can be applied to other CEU workshop sessions within this academic year. Additionally, it will be your responsibility to contact CEU Program staff for information regarding future workshop dates and to submit a new registration form at the appropriate time. Page 4

6 SPECIAL DISCOUNTS Discounts for individual workshops are available for CSULB faculty, staff, field instructors, alumni and MSW students. Additional discounts are available to anyone registering for either the Pre-Licensure Package or the Post-Licensure Package. Please see registration form for details. LOCATION The workshops have all been held in the Foundation Building, Room 175. This is a conditional reservation that we have set up. Due to the slight possibility that the Training Center we are using may have a last-minute need for the room, we will send everyone an verification of location (either F-175 or a room in the SPA building) by the Monday before the workshop.
