4 Canadian Nurses Association Position Statement: Global Health and Equity, 2009 Health is a global issue and global health the optimal well-being of all humans from the individual and collective perspective is a fundamental human right

5 CNA Code of Ethics and Social Justice Social justice is reflected throughout the code, with social justice being defined as the fair distribution of resources and responsibilities among the members of a population, with a focus on the relative position of one social group in relationships to the others in society as well as on the root causes of disparities and what can be done to eliminate them (CNA, 2009, p. 2).

6 Canadian Nurses Association Both Canadian and global data demonstrate that there are significant inequities and disparities between regions, groups, and countries that lead to significant health issues. Social justice for nurses means practicing at the interface of public policy and individual circumstances as part of daily practice, and is foundational to every nursing encounter. (CNA, 2009).
