Success in fund raising - development and submission of proposals on RH to wide range of donors, ability to respond to time bound deadlines effectively. Demonstrated experience in policy development and planning with Ministries of Health (District, Provincial and National levels) and partners to influence policy through research and practice. Extensive experience in managing collaborative programmes with bilateral donors, UN organisations, Ministries of Health, academic institutions and international NGOs in Reproductive Health, Family Planning, Maternal and Newborn Health and Emergency Public Health. Principle Investigator in the following ongoing studies: Assessing the benefits and costs of integrating HIV and SRH services in Kenya and Swaziland ( ); Evaluation of voucher-&-accreditation interventions for improving business models applied to reproductive health service delivery platforms ( ) Lead investigator/project monitor on studies in Repositioning Postpartum Care in a high HIV prevalence environment: Operations Research in Swaziland ( ). Strengthening PMTCT through Postpartum FP in Lesotho ( ) and in Kenya: Integrating tuberculosis case finding and treatment into FANC ( ), Strengthening postnatal care services including early postpartum FP ( ), and Taking critical services to the home: testing the feasibility and acceptability of home based maternal and postpartum care through private/community midwife networks in Kenya ( ); In-depth assessment and documentation of UNFPA/MOH obstetric fistula and community midwifery initiatives in Kenya ( ). National Community Based Safe Motherhood Survey in Ethiopia (2005) and reanalysis of 4 regions (2009) Experience in developing: M and E tools for RH, training curriculum, job aids, setting standards of care and using criterion-based audit for assessing quality of care. Member of Global Pre-Eclampsia/Eclampsia Policy and Advocacy Task Force 2009 Member of National Interagency Coordinating Committee for RH (ICC-RH) in Kenya and number of national working groups in FP, MNH, Community midwifery, Kenya roadmap for improving maternal and newborn health. Part of core group to develop RH Policy and Strategy and FP guidelines in Kenya, Member of WHO Technical Working Group for developing Standards for MNH 2002 to 2004 Member of WHO/AFRO Task force in Reproductive Health assisted in development of the regional Road Map for Acceleration for the Reduction in Maternal and Newborn Mortality 1

Responsibilities include: Design and Management of RH programs and investigating ways to integrate services (MNH, FP and HIV) and strengthening of health systems. Has expertise in developing concepts, designs, proposals and writing for OR in RH/FP. This includes design of interventions planning and implementation. Plays a leadership role in developing the Council s credibility in the areas of vouchers for financing and in promoting attention to newborn health within general postpartum care; Facilitated and coordinated the development of a wide range of training materials specifically postpartum BCS+ and mentorship framework for integrated HIV/SRH services; Continues to refine the package of care for MNH including long term family planning methods and HIV services. Regarded as an expert in the field of MNH is widely consulted in the region. Receives ongoing requests to make presentations in USA and SSA on PMTCT,FP MNH, integration on lessons learned at regional meetings. Member of the Eclampsia Task Force (Global Outreach) as well as a number of committees at national level. RH Inter-agency Coordinating Committee, (RH-ICC) the FP and MNH Working Groups and numerous Task Forces set up for specific assignments. Eg key contributor to the development of the Kenya National RH Policy and Strategy and revision of FP Guidelines. Coordinator for DFID s Know-How Project: Demonstrating the capacity of professionals, midwives, nursing and medical organisations to play a strategic role in safer RH/MNH through partnerships within and between countries Kenya and UK. Lead investigator on Study in Community aspects of Safe Motherhood among others. Department for International Development, Nairobi, DFID Associate Professional Officer (seconded to Population Council, Nairobi) May 2000 to Sept 2001 In addition to working on DFID Safe Motherhood Demonstration Project with Population Council, responsibilities include providing technical assistance to DFID Health Advisors managing other DFID RH projects in Kenya. Humanitarian Aid Department Oxfam, GB, Public Health Advisor, June April 2000 Responsibilities include providing advice and guidance on a wide range of public health issues to the Oxfam Eastern Europe Team during the Balkans crisis in EPI, control of communicable diseases and child health. Assisting in the development of programme for displaced people in Kosovo and Macedonia; Providing Emergency Public Health Assessment in Mozambique in March 2000 during major flooding to assess the public health risks for displaced people (70,000) and developed proposals including malaria control; recruiting emergency health field staff for Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Timor, Orissa, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Eritrea and Ethiopia; Reviewing malaria, and essential medicines guidelines and developing checklist for emergency assessment in line with Sphere guidelines (standards of care during emergencies). Save the Children Fund/DFID PHC Programme Officer, Angola July Sept 1997 Responsibilities include advising Municipal and Provincial Health Teams in development of Primary Health Care system as part of Health Transition Project. Rehabilitation, equipment and support to 20 health facilities in three municipalities. This included a plan for improving PHC specifically maternal, neonatal care, EPI, Essential drug procurement, rationalisation and distribution; updating skills of health care providers in resource poor setting. Capacity building for MOH staff including training, management, planning, evaluation, information systems epidemiological surveillance and implementing health strategies in conjunction with WHO. 3 Responsible for co-ordinating health activities based in Transit Camp for returnees from Zaire. This included providing maternity care to female returnees, curative care and re-instating the EPI programme, nutritional assessment. Also responsible for commodity procurement plan, recruitment and training of staff and rehabilitating and setting up the above services in three health centres. The main focus of work was on MCH -FP Services, EPI, curative care and health promotion.
