1 JOB TITLE: Health Promotion Coordinator (.60 FTE)/Head Women s Track and Field (.40 FTE) HEALTH PROMOTION COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION (.60 FTE): Position Summary: The Health Promotion Coordinator supports the health and wellness of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh student population. The Health Promotion coordinator plans, develops, implements, coordinates and evaluates a comprehensive health promotion program based on national standards. The Health Promotion Coordinator supports the mission of the UWO Student Health Center under the direction of the SHC director. Key Responsibilities: Work to make the campus healthier by cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors; coordinate efforts among various university constituencies; promote and market Student Health Center services; and foster a culture that values and supports a healthy community. Utilize a public health approach to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of health promotion and prevention strategies that address priority health issues in the UWO student population. All health promotion services provided will meet the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards for Health Education and Health Promotion. Gather data to determine what health issues most influence the academic performance of UWO students (based on American College Health Association local statistics, Healthy Campus 2020, Winnebago County communicable disease statistics, or other pertinent data). Programming will reflect the top academic impacts. Will collaborate with existing programs in alcohol and drug abuse, stress management, and healthy relationships. Will develop collaborative programs for smoking cessation, sexual health, eating disorders, nutrition, sleep, etc. Will actively participate in Umatter collaborative programming efforts. Maintain working collaborative relationships with numerous constituencies on campus, including but not limited to Office of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Residential Life, Counseling Center, Athletics, Student Recreation and Wellness Center, University Police, Oshkosh Student Association, and student organizations. Collaborate with community agencies.
2 Identify grant opportunities and funding sources for department initiatives and apply for relevant grants at the local, state and/or national level following guidelines and requirements set by the Institutional Review Board. Participate in Student Affairs, Student Health, campus, and community initiatives as requested. Represent the Student Health Center through active participation in campus, local, state and national professional health education and higher education organizations. Attends North Central College Health Association meetings held in October, and/or the American College Health Association Annual Meeting held in May. Responsible for participating in professional continuing education related to college health. Responsible for the overall coordination of the Health Advocate peer education program. Recruit, hire, train and supervise student health advocates. Conduct biweekly meetings with health advocates providing continuing education, training, mentoring and daily support. Document meeting minutes and share with all constituents. Maintain statistics on all health advocate activities. Provide individual and group health education and counseling. Provide health promotion/education presentations as requested by student organizations. Chair the Health Education committee to promote a healthy campus environment; work collaboratively with Student Affairs and academic departments in responding to campus- wide health issues. Manage the Freedom from Smoking program on campus. Become a Freedom from Smoking facilitator, and serve as needed. Recruit, hire, train and supervise student Freedom from Smoking facilitators. Promote and market smoking cessation program on campus. Consult with the College of Nursing in regard to credit for the classes. Evaluate program outcomes and report to constituents. Attend Student health Center Quality meetings on a monthly basis. Present Health Promotion statistics, provide update on health advocate activity, health promotion programs and receive feedback from staff on current health trends. Develop, administer, and evaluate all student health service assessments/surveys. Compile data and share with constituents. Post results on website. Market health promotion by utilizing the Advanced Titan, Campus Vision, table tents in Reeve Union and various campus buildings, campus posters, mass s, Student Health Center webpage, and social media. Marketing of health promotion should be visible to all students on a daily basis.
3 Maintain Student Health Center webpage to ensure current information on all health topics, student health center services, and health and wellness activities. Commitment to work evening and weekend hours, with concentrated programming during the academic year, and during special events. (Taste of Oshkosh, RecFest, Titan Well booth, LGBTQ health week, Preview Days, Odyssey, AI orientation, Influenza clinics, etc) Expect to work 30 hours per week during the academic year on health promotion programming. Budget appropriate resources to maintain the Health Advocate program, Freedom from smoking program, campus health promotion programs, and Titan Well activities. HEAD WOMEN S TRACK AND FIELD COACH JOB DESCRIPTION (.40 FTE): Position Summary: The head women s track and field coach will develop and maintain an effective and competitive intercollegiate women s track and field program through recruitment of quality student- athletes and successful coaching of those individuals. In the recruitment effort, incumbent will be a representative of the total institution, with all of the factual knowledge and sensitivities required by that representative. Key Responsibilities: Organize and operate an effective women s track and field program. Recruit effectively in guidelines set by the University, conference and the NCAA. Assign coaching and recruiting responsibilities to and supervise the work of assistant coaches. Plan and organize in- season practice sessions. Plan and organize off- season conditioning programs. Ensure the academic success of women s track and field student- athletes as a model NCAA DIII institution. Coordinates academic meetings with the team. Devise a schedule (including travel arrangements for all away meets) for women s track and field. Develop and monitor a women s track and field budget. Promotes women s track and field and UW Oshkosh through clinics, camps, and speaking engagements.
4 Demonstrates a working knowledge of NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations. Counsel student- athletes and set up short/long term goals. Develop and execute fundraising projects when appropriate. Participate in University activities and committees. Attend departmental meetings, organizational efforts, and departmental activities. Work with marketing team on game environment and community outreach initiatives. Take part in professional development and educational activities to stay abreast of new ideas, concepts, and changes that occur in women s track and field. Endorse and support other sports within the Athletic Department and other duties as outlined by the Athletic Director. 5 Masters degree in health education, health promotion, public health, or closely related field required. Two years experience with supervision, coordination, and health education/health promotion programming. Five years of collegiate coaching experience. Demonstrated understanding of the NCAA Division III philosophy. Proficiency in data collection, analysis, program evaluation, and data analysis software. Proven ability to manage projects and deliver results. Ability to think critically and present information. Excellent computer skills. Must be proficient in MS word, PowerPoint, Excel, desktop publishing and be willing to learn new programs. Ability to maintain confidentiality. High level of organizational skills and proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Ability to function as part of a team. Social Media proficient (Facebook, Twitter). Public speaking. Demonstrate record and commitment to diversity and inclusion and able to work with diverse populations, including but not limited to people of all ages with various ethnic, sexual orientation, educational, and socio- economic backgrounds. Exhibit experience in and appreciation of inclusivity, first generation, low income and multicultural issues. Create and maintain a work environment that is respectful and accepting of diversity. Set clear guidelines for expected behaviors and clear methods of reporting inappropriate behavior. Demonstrate familiarity with national trends and best practices related to diversity, inclusivity, undergraduate retention programs and practices, academic support services and campus climate issues. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
6 Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES/M- CHES) strongly preferred. If not certified at time of hire will obtain certification within 18 months. Experience in college health promotion programming. Experience in managing and supervising students. Collegiate throws coaching experience.
