2 BCIT REGISTRATION INFORMATION BCIT Adult Education offers several easy ways to register for a course/program. To ensure a placement in the class of your choice, please register through one of the three methods: MAIL: Complete a registration form and mail it in with payment to: BCIT Adult Education, 695 Woodlane Road, Westampton, NJ IN PERSON: Come to the Medford or Westampton Campus, fill out a registration form, and submit it with payment for the course. FAX: Complete a registration form and fax it to Make sure that you complete the bottom portion with payment information. BCIT POLICY AND PROCEDURES Absences Students must have a minimum attendance of 85%. Some programs have more stringent attendance requirements because of federal and/or state regulations governing licensure. Students must adhere to these requirements. There are no excused absences for Adult Education Programs. Administration The administration reserves the right to withdraw any course, which has insufficient registration, and to change the schedule when circumstances warrant a change. Admission Requirements All students applying for admission to Adult Education Programs must be 18 years of age. In-school, high school students with senior standing, and 18 years of age who are enrolled in a sending district school or BCIT, may be in an Adult Education Program with written permission from the principal or superintendent from the school in which they are enrolled. This written permission must be submitted at the time of registration. All students must pay registration and tuition fees. Students applying for State Licensing programs, which have high school diploma or equivalent as a requirement, must provide a copy of this documentation. Cancellation Policy All courses are subject to cancellation where registration is insufficient. A 100% refund will be made for classes cancelled by Burlington County Institute of Technology. Certificate Programs Students must maintain a 70% (2.0) grade average or they may be placed on academic probation, subject to recommendation for dismissal. Certificates Completion certificates are issued upon successful completion of the course/program. Some programs have more stringent attendance requirements because of federal and/or state regulations governing licensure. Students must adhere to these requirements. Refund/Drop Class Policy If a student wishes to drop a class after enrolling in the class, and at least 24 hours prior to the first class session with the exception of Practical Nursing, Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide and CDL. Withdrawals made less than 60 days prior to the start date of Practical Nursing are not eligible for reimbursement of acceptance fees. Withdrawals for Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide must be made at least 14 days prior to the start date of class to be eligible for a refund. Withdrawals made for CDL must be made at least 7 days prior to the start date of class to be eligible for a refund. A full refund minus the $25.00 registration fee will be made to the student provided the student adheres to these guidelines. A student is not eligible for a refund after this time period has lapsed. No refund requests will be honored beginning 24 hours prior to the first class. Registration Late Fee There will be a $25 late registration fee assessed if registration deadlines are missed. Smoking NO smoking is permitted at any time on school grounds. Third Party Registration Any agency that desires to register a student should have all required paper work to the Adult Education Division nine (9) working days before the date of the final registration. Failure to submit all pertinent paperwork will result in relinquishing the seat to the public for admission/registration. Tuition The entire tuition must be paid at the time of registration. You can pay by cash, check, money order, or charge (DISCOVER, VISA, or MASTERCARD). There is a $50.00 charge for checks issued to Burlington County Institute of Technology that are returned due to insufficient funds. There is also a $50.00 charge for late payments received by BCIT Adult Education for advanced semester/module courses. 2

3 Healthcare BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) BLS101 FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS- CPR/AHA The goal of the BLS for Healthcare Providers course is to train participants to save lives of victims in cardiac arrest through high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The American Heart Association designed the BLS for Healthcare Providers Course to prepare healthcare professionals to perform CPR in both in and out of hospital settings. This course trains participants to recognize cardiac arrest, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations, and provide early use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), as part of a team and individually. The course also covers choking and rescue techniques for adults, children and infants. COST: $75 W Westampton 5-10 p.m. 5 hours 1 st Wednesday monthly CERTIFIED HOMEMAKER HOME HEALTH AIDE The HHHA is certified by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Both the 76-hour course module and a 10-hour module opened to NJ Certified Nurse Aide only*, prepare the individual for providing care in home settings under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The CHHHA performs tasks which are delegated consistent with provisions of N.J.A.C. 13: Duties include providing personal care and homemaking services essential to patient s healthcare and comfort at home including shopping, errands, laundry, meal-planning and preparation including therapeutic diets, serving meals, childcare and assisting the patient with activities of daily living (mobility, transferring, walking, grooming, bathing, dressing, toileting). The CHHHA should not administer medication. An additional, $65.00 (payable to the NJ Board of Nursing) is required for the certification fee and background check application fee and is not refundable. Make-up time included in the 76-hour schedule will incur an additional fee of $35.00 per hour. Fees must be paid before the start of make-up. No makeup time is included in the 10-hour module. No absences are permitted. Fees are non-refundable. Students learn to meet the psychological, social, physical, and environmental needs (stressing safety) of the patient. Receive packet at time of registration. Packet information is due back for review two weeks before start date of class. Cost: $1,250 CNA602 MTWTH Westampton 5-10 p.m. 90 hours 02/8/2016 CNA501 TTH Medford 5:30-9:30 p.m. 90 hours 02/1/2016 DENTAL ASSISTING I DEN601 The Dental Assisting program consists of a strong blend of didactic and clinical based instruction in a state-of-the-art facility in combination with an extramural clinical experience with some of the area s finest dental professionals. This program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association (ADA) recognized by the Council on Accreditation and by the United States Department of Education. Upon successful completion of course work and examinations, this program will qualify the students to earn the following credentials: New Jersey Dental Radiology License; Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), a national credential sponsored by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) including Infection Control Exam (ICE), Radiation Health and Safety Exam (RHS), and General Chairside Exam (GC); and New Jersey Registered Dental Assistant registration (RDA). 4 DENTAL TEST PREPARATION DEN604 ASSISTING NATIONAL BOARD RADIATION HEALTH AND SAFETY This is part 2 of 3 review classes to prepare the student to take the DANB national exams. All 3 exams must be passed successfully to obtain a certified dental assistant credential. This course is for the working dental assistant who has a NJ dental radiologic license but has not taken the DANB RHS exam within 5 years and is seeking to become a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA). This course includes: radiation physics, radiographic equipment and processing techniques, quality assurance, exposure techniques, evaluation of various lesions, operator and patient protection, environmental asepsis and maintaining asepsis condition, preventing cross contamination and transmission, patient health care education and occupational safety during radiographic procedures. Cost: $500 W Westampton 6:30-9:30 p.m. 30 hours Call for schedule DENTAL RADIOLOGY DEN101 This Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners approved course will prepare working dental assistants to take quality x-rays. Areas covered include the history and development of x-ray, its nature and properties, effects of radiation exposure, x-ray film and it s processing, correcting faulty radiographs, intraoral and extraoral radiology, and patient management, with an emphasis on radiation hygiene and protection and OSHA standards. Practical experience will be given in intraoral and extraoral radiology techniques. Students must be employed in a dental office. Course will consist of 25 hours didactic and 20 hours lab. Clinical hours will be completed at the dental office where student is employed. High school diploma required. Cost: $500 TH Westampton 6:15-9:30 p.m. 45 hours 3/3/2016 ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY (EKG) EKG101 TECHNICIAN (NEW) An EKG is the most common procedure used for diagnosing heart disease. It is noninvasive and safe, offering no risks to the patient. A participant of this course will develop the knowledge and skills required to perform EKG testing or monitoring. Certified EKG Technicians (CET) operates machines that record the electrical activity of a patient s heart onto a paper strip. EKG rhythms provide important data for the diagnosis of heart conditions. It indicates to the healthcare provider whether the heart is normal, abnormal, or experiencing electrical problems. Potentially life- threatening arrhythmias, acute or chronic effects due to secondary health issues, or the reassurance of good health can be readily identified. As a CET, the individual may perform tasks that include setting up and administering EKGs, stress tests, preparing patients for Holter, or ambulatory monitoring, editing and delivering final test results to physicians for analysis, and scheduling appointments. Students will perform EKG testing on individuals in the classroom. Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology specific to this course of study are also included. Cost: $1,050 WTH Medford 6:00-9:00 p.m. 100 hours 2/3/2016 MASSAGE AND BODYWORK THERAPY (NEW) MBT601 This course is designed to meet the New Jersey requirements for state certification. "Massage and bodywork therapies" or "massage and bodywork" means systems of activity of structured touch which include, but are not limited to, holding, applying pressure, positioning and mobilizing soft tissue of the body by manual technique and use of visual, kinesthetic, auditory and palpating skills to assess the body for purposes of applying therapeutic massage and bodywork principles. Such application may include, but is not limited to, the use of therapies such as heliotherapy or hydrotherapy, the use of moist hot and cold external applications, explaining and describing myofascial movement, self-care and stress management as it relates to massage and bodywork therapies. Massage and bodywork therapy practices are designed to affect the soft tissue of the body for the purpose of promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of the client. Massage and bodywork therapies do not include the diagnosis of illness, disease. Receive packet at time of registration. Cost: $5,200 MTWTH Medford 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 750 hours Fall Only MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING (NEW) MBC601 A Certified Billing & Coding Specialist s (CBCS) main focus is on converting a medical procedure, diagnosis, or symptom into specific codes for submitting a claim for reimbursement. As a CBCS, you may perform the following tasks: Accurately locate documentation in the patient record to support coding and billing process Accurately assign codes for diagnosis and procedures Calculate charges for a patient s procedure and service and prepare itemized statements to submit claim to third party payers Submit claims for reimbursement based on payer policies and procedures Coach providers on the best documentation practices to support quality coding and optimal reimbursement. This program offers the skills needed to file claims using CPT, ICD-9 and ICD- 10 manuals. Certified individuals may work in physician, chiropractic physical therapy practices, hospitals, pharmacies, and long-term care facilities. Individuals may also work for healthcare providers, insurance companies, medical-surgical supply companies, home health care companies, urgent care and surgical centers. MEDICAL ASSISTING CERTIFICATION MED101 EXAM REVIEW This course is for Medical Assistants who want a review of topics found on the certification exams for either CMA (AAMA) or RMA (AMT). Candidate must have graduated from Medical Assisting School or possess a minimum of 5 years employment as a medical assistant. 5 PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (NEW) PHA501 This program consists of a blend of didactic and laboratory based instructions to prepare students for employment as Certified Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmacy Technicians assist the licensed pharmacist to dispense medication to customers and health professionals in accordance (CPhT), the student may perform the following tasks: Receive written prescription requests from patients and prescriptions sent electronically from doctors offices. Read the prescription, retrieve, count, pour, weigh, measure, and mix or compound medications. Establish and maintain patient profiles, assist customers. Prepare insurance claim forms and manage inventory. Maintain inventory. Questions requiring clinical knowledge, such as prescription and health related questions are always referred to the licensed pharmacist. PHLEBOTOMY PHL501 A Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) draws blood from patients in hospitals, blood centers, or similar facilities for analysis or other medical purposes. As a CPT, you perform tasks that include basic phlebotomy procedures, point of care testing, and collection of other bodily fluids for specimen testing. Specific duties may include performing venipuncture, butterfly, and syringe methods, capillary blood collection, and infection control. Emphasis is placed on safety in collecting blood samples from adult and pediatric patients. This course includes classroom and simulated laboratory training in venipuncture and the correct techniques for obtaining blood specimen collection. The student must demonstrate correct procedures for successful specimen collection with venipuncture, and skin punctures. Cost: $ hours Medford 6:00 9:00 p.m. MT Fall Only PRACTICAL NURSING LPN601 Practical nursing consists of classroom, laboratory, clinical conference, and clinical practice. Approximately fifty percent of the hours will be devoted to classroom theory and laboratory. Approximately fifty percent of the hours will be dedicated to clinical experience and clinical conference. Areas of instruction include Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition, Personal and Professional Relations, Growth and Development, Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Maternal-Child Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, and Geriatric Nursing. Upon completion of this program, the graduate will be qualified to take the NCLEX-PN State Board exam for licensure. Topics include animal safety, handling and restraint, bathing, clipping, answering phones, making appointments, admitting animals to be groomed, and confirming procedures with clients. Cost: $600 TTH Medford 6:45-10:15 p.m. 63 hours Fall Only COMPUTER KITCHEN DESIGN BLD105 Learn how to measure, make kitchen layouts, and tips for good design. The class will cover cabinetry, countertop materials, color choices and NKBA guidelines as well as basics in lighting and flooring. Class is taught by a professional educator and kitchen design specialist. The first semester areas of instruction include residential wiring, commercial wiring, and troubleshooting. The second semester includes instruction in commercial wiring, related technology, technical math and motor controls. The National Electrical Code and Ohm s Law is stressed throughout the program. Prerequisite: Electrical Trades I Cost: $1,500 MTWTH Medford 6:00-10:00 p.m. 180 hours 2/8/2016 ELECTRICITY I ELC101 This course provides a basic overview of electrical theory and its application to devices, circuits, and materials. Topics covered include Ohm s law; drawing a basic electrical circuit; calculating voltage, current resistance, and power in series, parallel, and combination circuits; general building wire properties; conductor insulation with code specification, and an introduction to the National Electric Code (NFPA 70). Cost: $650 MW Medford 6:00-10:00 p.m. 88 hours Fall Only ELECTRICITY II ELC102 This course covers basic electrical mathematics including calculations for alternating circuits and devices in both single-phase and three-phase distribution systems. Topics covered include AC/DC power; LED and fluorescent lighting; power; theories of voltage, resistance, power, and energy; electro-parallel circuits; meters; test equipment; transformers, motors, and control circuits. The National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is utilized in determining the correct installation of electrical services for single-family dwellings and multi-family apartment complexes. Students are prepared for obtaining a New Jersey Qualified Journeyperson Electrician Registration. Prerequisite: Electricity II Cost: $650 MW Medford 6:00-10:00 p.m. 88 hours Fall Only ELECTRICITY IV ELC104 This course covers the basics of commercial wiring. Topics include the planning of a typical commercial installation by carefully demonstrating how the load requirements are converted into branch circuits, then to feeders, and finally into a building s main electrical service. A set of plans will allow the student to go through the wiring process, step by step, applying concepts learned to an actual commercial building to meet Code requirements set forth by the National Electrical Code (NFPA70). Photovoltaic and wind technologies are introduced in a commercial application. Prerequisite: Electricity III Cost: $650 MW Medford 6:00-10:00 p.m. 88 hours 2/8/2016 ELECTRICITY V ELC105 This course covers the solid-state devices common in an industrial environment. Topics include the operation of control components such as solid-state relays, rectifiers, SCR drives for direct current motors, and variable frequency drives for alternating current motors, and inputs and outputs of programmable controllers. 7 ELECTRICITY VI - BLUEPRINT ELC106 READING FOR ELECTRICAL This course covers the fundamentals of blueprint drawing, proper sketching, and architectural views with common scales used on blueprints for typical wiring and the components for single and multiple family dwellings, commercial, and industrial systems with special purpose systems for specialized locations. Other topics include blueprint specifications, elevations, schedules, and drawing and mechanical symbols used on blueprints. Cost: $650 MW Medford 6:00-10:00 p.m. 88 hours 2/8/2016 ELECTRICITY VII JOURNEY WORKER S ELC107 ELECTRICIAN EXAM PREP Review of methods and requirements for electrical system analysis as reflected by the current National Electrical Code. Topics include installing electrical services, pools, fountains, emergency building systems, systems over 600-volts, calculating raceway fill, parameters of range loads, multiple family dwelling loads, and preparing to take the NEC competency examinations.
