DAY 1 TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 2017 CONCURRENT SESSIONS Patient Access Issues in a Value-Based World Rhonda Quast, LPN Health Care Consulting Senior Manager Revenue Cycle Director Eide Bailly In order to maximize patient access, it s always been important to schedule the right patient at the right time with the right provider. In addition, it s imperative to support patient flow through a health care organization. With the move to value and evidencebased care, maximizing opportunities within patient access sets the stage for successful patient outcomes. Since patient access is the first point of contact with patients, it plays a key role in supporting operational initiatives, such as chronic disease management, readmission reduction and referral retention. In this session, we will examine ways in which you can engage your Patient Access team in your organization s goals to achieve value-based care. Your Cyber Security Compass: Developing a Culture of Security Jon Ault, M.S. Technology Advisory Senior Manager Eide Bailly Cyber criminals are a persistent threat to every health care organization. (Even small CAHs!) Information security in health care has evolved passed standard HIPAA compliance to translating into HIPAA secure. During this session, we will review how your people, processes and technologies all play a critical role in your overall security posture. Successfully Operationalizing Hierarchical Condition Categories Rhonda Quast, LPN Health Care Consulting Senior Manager Revenue Cycle Director Eide Bailly Joy Krush, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CDIP Health Care Consulting Manager Eide Bailly With increased movement to value-based reimbursement across the market, the ability to accurately report patients complex needs to account for their resource and cost utilization is becoming increasingly important. Multiple Medicare programs utilize Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding as a means of communication of a patient s diagnosis history, current health status, and projected resource utilization. A lack of understanding of HCC and how their resulting Risk Adjusted Factor (RAF) scores are used to provide reimbursement to organizations, leaves you at risk of causing an unintentional negative impact to your organization s financial health. Building Operational Efficiency Into Your Critical Access Hospital Paul Schulz Health Care Consulting Manager Eide Bailly Sam Olson Health Care Consulting Associate Eide Bailly Health care organizations have struggled to understand how to achieve cost savings while improving quality and satisfaction for the patient. Critical Access Hospitals often lack budgets to buy expensive technology and equipment other organizations may deploy to achieve better results. Today, operational efficiency can be launched with a new level of understanding that comes from business intelligence (BI). Yes, BI involves
technology, but it s affordable for CAHs. Pulling existing data from disparate systems and presenting it in a new way will help teams not only gain understanding but engage them in innovative discussions and processes needed for change. Mobilizing new and better information throughout the organization helps fuel transformation for today s challenging health care arena. Maximizing Your EHR Investment: From Selection to Post-Implementation Joy Krush, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CDIP Health Care Consulting Manager Eide Bailly Jon Ault, M.S. Technology Advisory Senior Manager Eide Bailly Selecting the right EHR software for your organization can help you make better clinical and operational decisions, improve your coordination of care, increase patient engagement, and increase your operational efficiency. In this session, we will discuss how you can maximize your EHR software investment from pre-selection planning to postimplementation process improvements. Community Health Needs Assessment: So You Think You re Compliant Now What? Kim Hunwardsen, CPA Partner, Director of Exempt Organization Tax Practice Eide Bailly You devoted considerable time, energy, and money completing your Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). You are updating your policies and procedures to be compliant with the 501(r) rules. Now what? What does the IRS require you to do with the information you have obtained from your CHNA? What does the hospital need to do for the next three years until you repeat the CHNA process? How do you ensure your organization continues to meet the IRS requirements with respect to financial assistance and billing and collection? Can you walk the walk and talk the talk meaning your CHNA wasn t merely a formality? Now that you re compliant, does anyone really care? DAY 1 GENERAL SESSION Federal Health Care Update: The First 100 Days of the New Administration Ralph Llewellyn, CPA, CHFP Partner, Director of Critical Access Hospitals Eide Bailly A new administration will undoubtedly bring with it changes in the health care landscape. There has been much speculation regarding what changes will be made at the national level and how these changes will impact providers in the rural markets. Will these changes continue to impact the financial stability of rural providers or will a new administration bring a new approach to protect safety net providers in a manner to promote access and quality of care to the nation s most vulnerable populations?
DAY 2 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 2017 AGENDA Breakfast Concurrent Sessions: Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act or the C-Suite Key Market Trends and Changes for Rural Markets Break General Session: Lessons Learned from Participants in Rural ACOs Networking Lunch Motivational Speaker Closing Register Today! w w w.eid eb aill y.com/cah
DAY 2 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 2017 CONCURRENT SESSIONS Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act for the C-suite Rhonda Quast, LPN Health Care Consulting Senior Manager Revenue Cycle Director Eide Bailly On January 1, 2017, MACRA began its first performance year. You may be asking yourself what impact MACRA will have in your organization and where do you place your efforts? In this session we will review the evolution of MACRA, the potential impacts and areas of focus from a C-Suite perspective moving forward in this new MACRA world, and the information flow from your team leads. Key Market Trends and Changes on the Horizon for the Rural Market Geoff Knobloch, CPA Partner Director of Health Care Eide Bailly Brian Bertsch Principal Eide Bailly With all of the changes in the industry, you may be asking yourself the following questions. Where is rural health care headed? What do our patients need and want from our local community hospital? Can we continue performing the services we currently offer based on our financial metrics and profitability? Should we explore alternative payment models? What is our cost of care for our patient population and how do we compare to our peers? These are among the questions critical access hospital leaders (CAH) are asking themselves. In this session, we will provide insight into rural trends in health care to assist CAH leaders in better understanding the issues facing them in coming years. We will also address issues currently facing hospitals in certain markets where profitability struggles have persisted and grown. In the volatile political and economic environment that we all are trying to navigate, this conference has provided what I was looking for. An unbiased, non-politicized projection of what future possibilities and challenges the CAH Model will face. ~ Jason Johnson, Controller F.W. Huston Medical Center
DAY 2 WEDNESDAY, JUNE 7, 2017 GENERAL SESSION Lessons Learned from Participants in Rural ACOs Ralph Llewellyn, CPA, CHFP Partner, Director of Critical Access Hospitals Eide Bailly Brian Bertsch Principal Eide Bailly Over the past several years, an increasing number of critical access hospitals and other rural providers have joined rural Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) accountable care organizations (ACOs). Groups of these rural providers have come together to learn more about the future of population health and to develop the structures and programming necessary to improve the coordination, quality and cost of health care services to the patients they serve. Through the ups and downs of a new payment model, these providers are learning what works as well as the potential pitfalls along the way. Early results indicate that, while there are opportunities to reduce the cost of population health, there are also many roadblocks and challenges along the way. And while the MSSP is an attractive choice for many providers, new competing incentive programs have some providers re-evaluating what programs make most sense for their organizations in the long run. Who We Are As the nation s rural hospitals began converting to critical access hospitals, Eide Bailly was there. Since 1998, we have worked alongside more than 250 critical access hospitals to define and measure governmental and third-party rules and regulations. We understand what it is like to operate a health care entity in a rural setting, and we develop an approach that recognizes and appreciates the uniqueness of rural America.
