Course TS1701 Program Content: This presentation will cover the evolution of the electronic healthcare record (EHR) & how it has become the primary resource that any healthcare provider will need to address the dynamically evolving domestic healthcare landscape. We are all familiar with the mantra that our population is aging, and consumed with a continuous increase in chronic diseases. The service capabilities of our institution are increasingly stressed placing further burden on sustaining a projected cost trajectory where 45% of costs are attributable to 5% of patients with numerous chronic conditions. The transformation of the healthcare environment requires the EHR to be the fulcrum for population health management, which ultimately will lead to the emerging domain of precision medicine and increasingly rely upon consumer solutions. All of these actions will facilitate a much needed and higher degree of analytical capabilities, with a strong focus on predictive analytics. In order to achieve outcomes and value to the investments made in EHR s, responsible organizational officers must have a strategy that connects the community (physician s practices, pharmacies, specialists, post-acute care, hospitals and health systems) into a population health platform that facilitates care coordination, patient engagement, connectivity and data aggregation. Decision makers will then have an understanding how the analytical insights observed from the complete spectrum of care is affecting their organization s patient and financial health. A new pillar of care embraces precision medicine where genomic research will provide intelligent interventions with less toxicity and improved outcomes while consumer solutions including mobile and wearable devices for reporting home weight, laboratory values such as glucose level, diet, obtaining alerts will provide timely bi-directional information between the patient and their physicians. All will have a pronounced and discernable effect of the financial viability of healthcare institutions and their communities. The audience will appreciate the progression of early EHRs to more advanced solutions where Population Health Management will drive cost reductions and enhance outcomes then drive ability for risk contracting. Increasing Patient Engagement with Care Coordination will reduce 30-Readmissions, increase ambulatory contacts, and drive the cost model from the acute inpatient environment to the new outpatient ambulatory model. Learning how connectivity within the community will drive data aggregation providing comprehensive models for cost comparison, physician performance, and disease management. Appreciate the strength of Precision Medicine providing predictive modeling of disease will enhance management, outcomes and control costs. Enabling precise medication selection will reduce trial and error methods of medication selection, further driving down costs. 7 Robert H. Leviton MD MPH FACEP CMIO, Vice President Quality and Outcomes, Allscripts Dr. Robert Leviton is Allscripts Vice President for Quality and Outcomes, Chief Medical Information Officer. In this role, he uses his extensive expertise in health IT innovations to help clients advance quality of care, and improve patient and provider experience. Prior to joining Allscripts, Dr. Leviton has 30 years of progressive healthcare clinical and administrative leadership experience, most recently as the Chief Medical Information Officer and Physician Advisor at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center (New York City, New York, U.S.A.), which provides healthcare services to an ethnically diverse population, with more than one million patient visits annually. Dr. Leviton is board certified in Emergency Medicine and a Fellow in the American College of Emergency Physicians. Paul serves on the board of Healthways Inc., a publicly traded health and wellbeing firm headquartered in Nashville TN. 11 Tracy Young CPA - Partner, BKD, LLP Tracy Young, a member of BKD National Health Care Group, has more than 19 years of experience at BKD and manages the audits of numerous health care providers, including rural community providers, urban hospital systems and long-term care facilities. He also provides Medicare and Medicaid consulting and cost report preparation and analysis, feasibility studies and strategic planning. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and Healthcare Financial Management Association, where he is a past president. Much of this increase is related to payers reluctance to pay, which is commonly revealed through stalling techniques such as additional documentation requests and denials. While organizations focus has primarily centered on Medicare claims in the wake of ICD-10 implementation, many organizations are beginning to turn focus toward commercial payers as they begin to experience increases in medical necessity and authorization-related denials. In the wake of increasing denials, from front to back-office denials, multiple organizations have turned toward methods that enable them greater visibility into denial origins, contributors, and trends. This includes analyzing denials from both an internal and external perspective. The concept of Big Data is more prevalent than ever in the healthcare industry. Culling important information from the sea of data now available to organizations can be a daunting task. Furthermore, both leaders and analysts often have competing priorities that stand in the way of both identifying and extracting meaningful and actionable information Mid-South Institute

In addition, it will provide participants with methods to both increase the utility of denials data, and ways in which this data can be most effectively utilized to drive change, such as through payer scorecards and ongoing denial tracking and monitoring. Brad Cording Executive Director of Consulting & Analytics, Healthcare Business Insights Brad provides senior leadership in directing and coordinating HBI s Consulting and Analytics service line, which supports HBI member hospitals across the nation. Since joining HBI, Brad has also served as a senior consultant for high profile engagements, implementing best practice solutions to multiple clients in order to improve and enhance the financial health of their organizations. Brad has been a feature speaker on the topic of revenue cycle trends and best practices, where he has shared HBI s audit and research findings and lessons learned from the nation s leading healthcare providers. Prior to assuming his current role, Cording worked for a large national full continuum revenue cycle outsourcing firm, where he led revenue cycle improvement initiatives for front and back office operations, while collaborating with various revenue cycle and clinical leaders for alignment, innovations in operational effectiveness, revenue cycle optimization, and strategic growth. Panelist Suzette Duhe Chief Financial Officer Louisiana Heart Hospital Suzette Duhe s career in healthcare began in the audit and advisory service line with Deloitte and Touche, LLP. After spending nine years there, she served as a controller, financial analyst, and director of finance for both for-profit and not-for-profit acute care hospitals and health systems in south Mississippi and the Greater New Orleans area. Day Egusquiza President AR Systems Day Egusquiza brings over 30 years experience in health care reimbursement, hospital business office operations (20 years in an Idaho hospital), contracting and compliance implementation. Additionally, her experience includes eight years as a Director of a Physician Medical Management billing service which included completing an integrated business office between a hospital and a large multi-specialty physician clinic. She has been an entrepreneur in hospital and physician practice accounts receivable management and a leader in redesigning numerous organizations. Her work includes providing guidance as a compliance & reimbursement educator while providing operational insight on the revenue cycle impacts of RAC/ Medicare Recovery Audit Contractors. James Birdwell Managing Director Raymond James Jim Birdwell is a Managing Director in the Healthcare Finance group at Raymond James. He joined the firm in 1987 from a major bank in Nashville, where he served as manager of their municipal trading, underwriting and public finance departments. Jim has 39 years of experience in the securities business, including 27 years as a senior investment banker. Jim has worked on variable and fixed-rate bond issues, credit analysis, debt capacity, strategic options assessments, asset sales, balance sheet management and derivatives applications for all types of healthcare institutions. He has served as senior investment banker for bond issues totaling over $15.5 billion in paramount, including issues for health systems, stand-alone hospitals, academic medical centers, children s hospitals, CCRCs and nursing homes. He was formally the manager of Morgan Keegan s municipal trading and underwriting department, where he was responsible for underwriting syndication and pricing of both competitive and negotiated bond issues. Jim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Amber Sherrill CPA - Director, BKD, LLP Amber Sherrill is a Director in tax at BKD, LLP. She has eleven years of experience providing tax compliance and consulting services to clients in a variety of industries. She is a member of the BKD Health Care and Not-for-Profit groups. She provides research and guidance to assist exempt organizations in their compliance with the constantly changing exemption requirements and reporting.
