1 MINUTES OF THE September 13, 2000 Los Angeles Pierce College Curriculum Committee Meeting Voting Members Present: Gail Hobbs, Jodi Johnson, Tom Rosdahl, Marcia Solomon Non-voting Members Present: Carole Delgado, Lyn Koller, Tom Oliver, Marian Prochter, Dorothy Rupert, Guests/Presenters: Leslee Cook, David Koehnlein I. The meeting was called to order. (3:10 P.M.) II. Due to lack of a quorum of voting members, this was an informal informational meeting. All action items were postponed until October 11 meeting. III. IV. The approval of the minutes of the May 10 meeting (attached to agenda) was postponed. Curriculum Proposals Approval postponed. A. Certificates of Achievement Woman s Physical Education (Marian Weiser) 1. Visual and Performing Arts through Dance 2. Physical Education Dance Emphasis 3. Physical Education Lifetime Fitness 4. Physical Education Aquatics 5. Physical Education V. Curriculum Committee Concerns A. Approval Procedures 1. The New Course Approval Procedure was discussed. 2. All curriculum forms submitted should be by floppy disc or attachment except for original hard copies of signature pages. 3. Committee review of materials will, on an experimental basis, (if all parties provide electronic copies) be by projection at the meeting. B. Updates of Course Outlines - Departments have been asked to provide updated COR s for those courses which have not been updated for more than two years. C. TBA hours for courses Carnigie hours are the minimum number of hours a class must meet, however more hours may be scheduled if all students are required to spend those hours performing class related activities (e.g. projects requiring computer access; not to be confused with homework). A Course Change form would be appropriate for adding TBA hours to existing couses along with a Course Outline of Record to demonstrate the validity of the additional hours. D. Stand Alone Course information discussion postpones. E. Meeting Times/dates Fall 2000/Spring The general consensus was to continue the current meeting time and day. 2. Prerequisites, Corequisites, and Advisory a) MSP to approve Biology 6 as a prerequisite for Biology 99I. b) Biology 6 as a prerequisite for Biology 8 will be forwarded as above. B. Added Courses a) MSP to approve the addition of Psychology 12 Adolescent Psychology. b) MSP to approve the addition of Theater Musical Theater. 2.
