Outreach for local Model ICANN Meeting 3-5 Nov Nov: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) 4 & 5 Nov: ICANN Meeting Venue - Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) What is ICANN? ICANN is a not-for-profit, public-benefit organization formed in Its staff operates the Internet s Domain Name System, coordinates allocation and assignment of the Internet s unique identifiers, such as Internet Protocol addresses, accredits generic top-level domain (gtld) name registrars, and helps facilitate the voices of volunteers worldwide who are dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. ICANN promotes competition in the domain name space and helps develop Internet policy. ICANN holds three international public meetings each calendar year in different regions of the globe. For more information about ICANN and ICANN meetings, you may visit the following websites: and About Outreach for local academia@icann57 Outreach for local academia@icann57 seeks to raise interest and awareness of ICANN policy discussions among youth and to groom future industry leaders by engaging local students. Youth-led organization, NetMission.Asia, as one of the recognized groups under the At-Large Advisory Committee of the ICANN structure, partner with ICANN APAC Hub co-organizing the program. On top of ICANN Tech Lecture on the topics about ICANN Structure, DNS, DNS security, IPv6 addressing, IDN, Universal Acceptance and New gtlds, the program features a model ICANN meeting where participants will be simulating the multi-stakeholder structure of ICANN and role-playing different stakeholders & constituencies to discuss a policy topic. Participants will be attending some of the main sessions of ICANN meeting with the additional internal discussions facilitated by the Ambassadors of NetMission.Asia. Delegates of the program will participate directly in ICANN 57 Hyderabad meeting ( on 4 and 5 Nov at Hyderabad International Convention Center.
Expected Number of delegates Seminar at IITH Campus (3 Nov 2016): students from IITH ICANN meeting on-site participation (4-5 Nov 2016): delegates from IITH Objectives - Engage and capacity building for young adults in Internet governance participation According to the Pew Internet project in 2010, 93% of young adults aged go online. Young people are frequent users of the Internet, and they are gaining access earlier in their youth. Yet they rarely appear in the ICANN discussion due to lack of information and knowledge. This would be a first step for them to understand Internet governance issues at the forefront with industry experts. As a strong believer of ICANN s multi-stakeholder model, youth s engagement further reinforces the diversity of the ICANN policy dialogue. - Train ICT leaders in the future Via youth engagement programs, our vision is to see youth s direct engagement in policy discussion in ICANN together with other industry experts. They will become the future leaders in the industry.
About the Organizers NetMission.Asia is an Ambassadors Program supported by DotAsia Organisation, which aims to bring together a network of dedicated young volunteers devoted towards promoting and contributing towards digital inclusion, Internet governance as well as a respectable and harmonious Internet environment. The program recruits a group of students from top local tertiary institutes and universities in Hong Kong every year. We train and sustain a network of volunteers to contribute to digital inclusion works. We are endeavoring to empower young minds, through training, exchange opportunities, International conferences and community projects, to constructively contribute to the local, regional and global Internet governance discourse. NetMission has always been dedicated to support youth participation on Internet governance and the ambassadors themselves are actively participating in various international Internet conferences such as ICANN meetings, United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UNIGF), Asia Pacific Next Generation Camp (APNG Camp), etc. As NetMission is endeavored to empower and engage youth on Internet governance discussion, the ambassadors have been organizing the Youth Internet Governance Forum (yigf.asia) in different Asia Pacific region since 2010 in Hong Kong. It has been successfully held in Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Delhi, Macau and Taipei. As well as initated the NextGen@ICANN program with the support from ICANN APAC hub at ICANN 49 Singapore Meeting in Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you have to type an address into your computer a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation and a community with participants from all over the world. ICANN and its community help keep the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It also promotes competition and develops policy for the toplevel of the Internet s naming system and facilitates the use of other unique Internet identifiers. ICANN doesn't control content on the Internet. It cannot stop spam and it doesn't deal with access to the Internet. But through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet.
About Supporting Organizations Ajitora (nickname Aji ) ( is the Stakeholder Engagement Manager of DotAsia Organisation and an official ambassador for the Tx2 (#doubletigers) campaign, supported by WWF, Global Tiger Forum (GTF) and TRAFFIC and the 13 Tiger Range Countries (China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Laos, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Russia). Aji is a cheerful, energetic and curious tiger on a journey to meet new friends and promote Asia collaboration and sustainable development. We believe that as the Asian Tiger Economies roar forward in the Asia Century ahead, our wildlife, technology and policy environments could be Roaring Forward Together! The Ajitora Movement From Tigers to Sustainable Development in Asia: Ajitora represents the focal point of a multidimensional approach to support Asia tigers. As an endangered apex species, tigers need a healthy overall habitat to thrive. Revitalizing tigers is revitalizing the Asian ecologies, an ecosystem wide approach, from industry, agriculture, deforestation, to climate change. Inspired by tigers as a symbol for sustainable development and a collaborative Asia, the Ajitora movement is not only about tigers, but about bringing awareness of how we are all connected. DotAsia Organisation is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization (DotAsia Foundation: IRD 91/12820) with a mandate to promote Internet development and adoption in Asia. DotAsia operates the.asia TLD (top-level-domain) for the global Internet infrastructure and is formed with a membership of official country-code toplevel-domain ( cctld ) authorities e.g. (.CN,.JP,.KR,.IN,.PH, etc. ) and Regional Internet bodies ( e.g. APNIC, APTLD, APNG, etc. ) in Asia.

Sustainable Development Goals On 1 January 2016, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at an historic UN Summit officially came into force. The SDGs are on high agenda of the Internet Governance discussions where Internet is playing an important role in fulfilling the global goals. Ajitora will meet the youth delegates to share how Internet contributes to SDGs and Tx2 program. Brainstorming sessions will be held for youth delegates to innovate ideas/solutions to address the SDGs and social needs, as well as how ICANN can contribute to the issue. Model ICANN Meeting Delegates will be assigned to unique stakeholder group within the ICANN Structure which is replicated the ICANN process. It is the time which the multi-stakeholder model be seen with different stakeholder groups exchanging their viewpoints and to discuss a specific policy issue currently discussed in ICANN. The whole simulation enables youth to understand different stakeholders of ICANN, and pass the discussion outcome to related working group to give actual input from youth perspective. ICANN Community Members Meet-up Veterans and long-time ICANN community members from the actual committees will be invited to share their experiences with the youth delegates. It aims to bridge the delegates with the actual community and enhance their dialogue on the policy issues. Youth delegates can seek advice and feedback from the community members on their discussion direction. Public Forum A public forum is where all ICANN participants have dialogues with the board on various policy issues. Youth delegates are encouraged to speak up at the open microphone to voice out their opinion after the series of capacity building discussions and trainings. Program Agenda
