Partners involved in the AES 92 assessment EUR partners: EDF: Mr Olivier ROUSSELOT ENERGOATOM: Mr Vitaly VORONTSOV FORTUM: Mr Bahey MOHSEN IBERDROLA: Mr Carlos PADILLA ROSENERGOATOM: Mr Vadim SEMISHIN Mrs Elena SOLONKO SOGIN: Mr Alceste RILLI VATTENFALL/FKA: Mr Johan ANDERSSON AES 92 Designers: ATOMENERGOPROEKT Mr Mikhail MALTSEV Mrs Lidiya VOROZHSOVA OKB GIDROPRESS: Mr Nikolay FIL KURCHATOV INSTITUTE Several experts page 12 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment The AES-92 plant design has been developed as a Standard Design in the Russian Federation context. Even so, the compliance assessment performed and reported in the EUR Volume 3 AES-92 Subset shows a good level of compliance of the AES-92 plant design with the EUR policies, objectives and requirements. page 13 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment Many "compliances with objectives" have been identified Russian Federation specific regulatory context The designer intends to demonstrate compliance during the detailed design phase Compliance with with objectives (CWO): the the design design is is supposed to to achieve the the objective of of the the requirement; either either a different approach from from the the EUR EUR one one is is used used to to achieve the the same same objectives, or or the the approach is is not not yet yet defined page 14 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment Compliance with the EUR objectives: PSA targets: the AES 92 results are quite low for the internal events, thus the EUR objectives are reachable, but impact of certain hazards and initiating events has not been assessed yet Safety classification: the Russian Standard OPB88/97 based on different principles than EUR. The safety classified part may be a bit larger than allowed in EUR. Primary and Secondary Containment performance: balanced design achievable because of big reserve for optimisation page 15 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment Compliance with the EUR objectives (continued): Passive Heat removal in Design Extension Conditions for 72 h: reliable operation of Passive Heat Removal System beyond 24 h depends on results of tests on PHRS and gas-removal system Reactor Pressure Vessel: 60 year-lifetime possible by construction changes, improved material properties, surveillance specimens Automatic isolation of Residual Heat Removal System located outside primary containment: could be done on customer demand page 16 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment Compliance with the EUR objectives (continued): EUR Seismic spectra & soil conditions: adaptable design Fuel & core performance Average FA Burn-up: 51 MWd/kgHM (55 for EUR) Type of fuel: initially UO 2 core, 50% MOX feasible Length of fuel cycle: initially 12 months, but capability for 24 Codes & standards: use of Euronorms looks possible HV Grid requirements: comparable voltage-frequency fields page 17 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
Main results of AES 92 assessment Several Non-Compliances have been identified Overall construction time: 60 months from first concrete to commercial operation, no reduction foreseen for AES 92 Digital I&C and computerised Man-machine interface for AES 92 partially computerised control room normal operation handled via fully computerized MMI safety systems dealt through conventional controls with duplication of information on displays of computerized MMI Refuelling & regular maintenance outage duration: 28 days for AES 92 (20 days requested in EUR) Spent fuel storage capacity: 642 cells for AES 92 (instead of 738 cells according to EUR, mainly for MOX spent fuel) Non-compliance (NOC): (NOC): the the design design does does not not meet meet the the requirement; an an assessment of of the the gap gap importance must must be be given. given. page 18 BE, EDF, ENDESA, ENEL, FKA, Fortum & TVO, IBERDROLA, NRG, REA, SOGIN, swissnuclear, TBL, VGB Power Tech 05/2007
