1 DragoNation Social Innovation Forum 2015 THIS IS THE WORLD FOR NEW GLOBAL CITIZENS TO KNOW MORE AND LEARN MORE Hong Kong, 30 May 2015 Over 120 social innovators have participated in DragoNation Social Innovation Forum at the HKUST Business School Central Campus on 30 May 2015 to understand how existing social enterprises operate in Hong Kong and how they change the world. Today s transformed and increasingly interconnected world has spurred a revolution, ushering in collaborative approaches that address complex challenges. Many have already recognized social innovation as creative responses to social needs and challenges. Making use of cutting-edge technologies and adapting to new modes of thinking, the approach is gaining enormous momentum and successes. DragoNation, as its latest move to forge synergies in making impacts to the community, held the Social Innovation Forum for social innovators and entrepreneurs to share and discuss ideas, experience, challenges and opportunities in devising impactful solutions for the toughest social issues. Supported by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, the HKUST Business School and MY Creative Workshop, the forum was started by Ms. Sindy Leung, the President of DragoNation, who welcomed all guest speakers and participants, highlighting the importance of innovation. Heavyweight social entrepreneur Dr. K K Tse was invited as the keynote speaker, the Hong Kong Godfather of social entrepreneurship and social business development summoned those eager for social solutions to devote to innovation.

2 Dr. Tse brought Dialogue in the Dark to Hong Kong and China in In 2012, he found Education for Good CIC Limited with the social cause to inspire everyone to become a changemaker and enable every business to become a social business. He has been a member of the Government- appointed Social Enterprise Advisory Committee since The inspiring speech was followed by two plenary sessions by renowned entrepreneurs in Hong Kong. Mr. Jason Chiu, Founder and CEO of Cherrypicks, was named Young Industrialist of Hong Kong 2014 by HKFI and Outstanding IT Person of the Year 2014 by ezone. The early entrepreneurial journey of the company was also featured as a Harvard Business School case study. Mr. Jimmy Tao, CEO of Vitargent, was awarded The Grand Prix of the 43rd International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. His company developed ethical and safe solutions for testing chemicals in personal care products, food and water. Mr. Nelson Yip, Founder & Chairman of Unleash Foundation, was the first qualified rider for Equestrian Competition in 2008, for which he was awarded the Medal of Honour from the Government. They shared their views on how to lead changes through innovation, referring to the problems they met and their experiences on how to overcome them.

3 The second session, held by Dr. Edwin Lee, Mr. Charles Law and Mr. K K Wong, investigated Managing User-Experience and Service Innovation. Dr. Lee, the Founder of Bridgeway Prime Shop Fund Management Ltd., was an awardee of the 2011 Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection organized by Junior Chamber International. Mr. Law, CEO of Culture Technology Limited, which operates the Culture Homes, elderly nursing homes and stores, as well as the Bridal Tea House Hotels chain. Mr. K K Wong initiated the first group buying marketing business in Hong Kong named Gigonzone in 2010, which became a win-win portal for both customers and merchants with diversified shopping offers. Mr. David Lan Hong Tsung, JP and Ms. Shelley Lee Lai Kuen, JP, Directors of the Dragon Foundation and Ms. Junia Ho Suk Yin, JP, Vice-Chairperson of the Programme and Fund Raising Committee have then encouraged participants to continue making changes and champion a better future for our world by experience learning from guest speakers. Towards the end of the forum, Mr. Stanley To, the Secretary-General of the Dragon Foundation, program consultant, was invited to introduce the program of Dragon 100 Young Chinese Leaders Forum (Dragon 100) The theme this year is Innovation and Entrepreneurship which would echo this forum. He closed the forum by urging application to the upcoming Dragon 100 program in August. Guests and participants were invited to the networking dinner afterwards. 4 Heney Tsang - Building Humanity through Architecture July 2015 I enjoy projects that tailor to specific needs and considerate of social-environmental impacts. Although they don t often have the most funding or make the most profit, they emulate the personality of future users and better humanity. Stated by Dr. Henry Tsang, who has three identities, an architect, an educator, a researcher. Henry is Dragon 100 (2011) alumni, he also is a famous architect in Canada. He pursued his architecture education at prestige institutions in both Canada (McGill University) and Japan (The University of Tokyo), where he completed a Ph.D. in architecture as a Monbusho Scholar. Henry s doctoral thesis was about the adaptive reuse of hospital buildings in Japan. Through this process, he discovered that the buildings in which we inhabit has strong connections to human health and behaviour, and can be improved by proper design and planning. Henry considers that his experiences studying and living abroad opened his eyes to different cultures, and grasped that the best design solutions are particular to each community and geography. 5 Upon graduation, Henry remained in Japan to work for reputable architecture firm Nihon Sekkei ( 日本設計 ). As project architect, he led a team of designers working in the International Architectural and Urban Division, in which he worked on many ODA (Official Development Assistance) projects for the Japanese government. His major projects include the San Felipe Hospital (Honduras), the Tianjin International Airport Hospital (China), SABECO Tower (Vietnam), RongHui Health Spa and Resort (China), and the University of Indonesia Health Sciences Campus (Indonesia). Although built for different uses, we can see that each of Henry s projects exhibits a sensitive approach to the environment, and embodies his design concept of healthy, safe, sustainable and happy places. Henry is currently an architecture professor at Herzing College in the Department of Sustainable Architecture Technology. He believes that the problem of the environment can only be resolved by properly educating future generations; therefore he developed a diploma program to sensitize young designers to the challenges and techniques of green architecture. He designs, and teaches the curriculum for courses such as green building focusing on integrated design process. Henry also lectures at other educational institutions around the world, speaks at global conferences and TEDx conferences. design, 2D/3D modeling with energy analysis & simulations and project management focusing on integrated design process. 6 Henry says that in order to continue to design state-of-the-art buildings, he needs to focus a lot of energy in research activities as well. His main topics of interest are the impacts of architecture on health and sustainable architecture. Henry is certified as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional, and is currently the Vice-President of the Living Building Challenge Collaborative of Montreal, an affiliation to the Canada Green Building Council, where he is researching and developing the newest standards of green buildings. Henry explains that the Living Building Challenge standards aim to achieve in creating self-sufficient buildings that act like living organisms, drawing energy from nearby renewable sources such as the sun, wind, water, etc. Henry justifies that the recent increase of natural disasters (typhoons, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis) around the world is a result of climate change, which in turn is a result of carbon gas emissions. While green architecture reduces our carbon footprint and will probably provide our future generation with a cleaner planet, Henry says that he is also anticipating the worst, and that is the idea behind Post-Disaster Reconstruction.

7 As a member of the Board of Directors of Emergency Architects of Canada, he has worked on the post-earthquake reconstruction of Japan, China and Indonesia, and is currently working on the reconstruction of Haiti, rebuilding demolished fire stations. However, destruction can also be man-made, and Henry also has in his agenda the reconstruction of elementary schools in Syria after the ongoing civil war. As a Dragon 100 (2011) alumnus, Henry recalls his trip to Hong Kong and Taiwan (Caring for the Poor, Today and Tomorrow), and leading the Lion Dance at the 30 Hour Famine organized by World Vision. Henry said that he was particularly excited to visit the Ma-Jia Farm in Pingtung, Taiwan, where there was a reconstructed aboriginal village affected by the typhoon Morakot in He was very inspired by the project, and was happy to exchange experiences with the inhabitants. After the program, Henry furthered his involvement with the Dragon Foundation as a mentor at the Global Citizen Programme in 2012 in New York, which focused on Understanding of Conflicts in a Global Perspective. 8 Dragon In Motion July 2015 DragoNation x Feeding Hong Kong DragoNation is proud to have partnered with Feeding Hong Kong for a Bread Run on 5th May, 2015 whereby 16 volunteers visited bakeries across Hong Kong to pick up and deliver unsold bread to a food bank. In the Bread Run, we fought against hunger and food waste with our feet! We VISITED bread shops with your friends, PICKED UP the bread, sandwiches and salads surplus, and RAN to the warehouse of Feeding Hong Kong. The bread shops surplus would typically be thrown away by the bakeries if otherwise. All the bread collected will go towards the The Feeding Hong Kong Breakfast Club in order to support their program of providing breakfast at schools to children that otherwise may not be able to get breakfast. Our volunteers have successfully rescued 176 pieces bread from 13 stores around Hong Kong. The bread was delivered to 7 charities first thing the next morning. 9 Dragon Spirit, Inspiration JA Career Workshop JA Career Workshop has just finished on 9 th May, Twelve Dragons and friends came together to join the Career Workshop organized by Junior Achievement with the volunteers from KPMG, one of big four chartered accounting firm. Hundreds of high school students from different districts participated to experience their first job hunting process, from CV writing to mock interviews. The participants got new perspectives and insights about their future through direct inspiration with the Dragons from different industries. Dragons believe that it s a good first step to inspire the students and help them to understand the real job market. We found out some participants didn t realize that they need to put their voluntary work which related to the job nature on their CV Derek Tsoi (Dragon 2010) said. It s not only about CV writing, but inspiring them to know who they are and what they want Dennis Ngan echoed. With the success, we foresee that Dragons can share their expertise and experience to more youth in future. A group of Dragons has initiated DragoNetwork which is now inviting all Dragons to contribute your valuable ideas for building a talent pool for future collaborations with NGOs or schools and extending Dragon s impacts. 10 Dragon Connect July 2015 Reaching High to the Top of Taiwan 2015 Armstrong Siu, Global Citizen Programme 2007 (delegate), Dragon (Coordinator) invites Dragons to do something special -- to climb up to Mountain Jade, the top of Taiwan on October 10, In fact, it's the dream of Solomon Fang (Dragon Delegate of Taiwan) and Armstrong to reach to one of the greatest landmark on Taiwan. After a long time of planning on the journey they have decided to give it a GO. Yushan (literally: "Jade Mountain"), is the highest mountain in Taiwan and the fourth highest mountain on an island. The highest point of Yushan Range, Yushan, is 3,952 metres (12,966 ft) above sea level, and is the highest point in the western Pacific region. With panoramic views, overlapping mountains, and deep, plunging valleys, Yushan National Park is well known for its scenery, sunrises, sunsets, geological features, and views of the clouds from above. Our ultimate goal of this journey is to reach the top of Mt. Jade on October 10, 2015, the national day of Taiwan, ROC. Climbing Mt. Jade is actually not easy and, frankly, a bit risky. However, the meaning of our lives lies in challenges we take.
