1 CHINA VISA REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS READ CAREFULLY: Incomplete or delayed submission of the visa application can result in you missing your program! To travel to and then stay in China, you ll need to send us: 1. One completed visa application (This must be typed). 2. A digital version of you Chinese-specific passport photo AND the fillable PDF of your visa application sent to china@peacecorps.gov. The photo may be a selfie or a high-quality scan on your passport photos. Please reference photo sizing information that accompanies the visa application instructions below. The PDF does not need to be signed, so please do not scan your visa application. Please do your best to keep the PDF document fillable, meaning the spaces in the document can be changed. The visa rules for China change yearly and this measure is intended to prevent needing to mail additional expedited documents. 3. Two China-sized photographs with your name and China written on the back (this is in addition to the two regular passport-sized photos needed for your passport application). Please reference photo sizing information that accompanies the visa application instructions below. Fill out the application electronically and return it (along with the necessary photos) to the Peace Corps travel office. Do this as soon as you accept the invitation! The passport and visa acquisitions are a highly bureaucratic process involving several Chinese and US government agencies, so we ll need all the time we can get. If you wait too long to complete this task, you won t get to go with your group. Once you get your staging (four to six weeks prior to departure), you will need to call Sato Travel to make flight reservations to the city where your staging (pre-departure orientation) is being held. You don t need to do anything to arrange for the international flights to the country where you will begin training. Remember: Page 1

2 You ll need two additional China-specific photos for the visa application. Print 4 ONE-SIDED pages. Sign the application in Section 4.1 on page four and date it May 15, That s one thing people sometimes forget to do, even if they successfully fill out the rest of the application. Other than your signature, YOU SHOULD NOT WRITE ON YOUR APPLICATION. Do not staple your pictures or the application. FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION We ll go through the form line by line on the following two pages of instructions. The fields are numbered, so this should be easy to follow. Read through the application once in order to get familiar with the form first. Remember that all of this needs to be done on a computer. Download the form at: Section : Should be answered, and are self-evident. Your surname is your last name/family name, and your given name is your first name and middle name as they would appear in your passport may typically be left BLANK. If you were born in China or Taiwan please contact the China Desk for guidance. If the Peace Corps agency has cleared you medically and legally for service, it is not necessary to answer Yes to the questions in this section. If you have any concerns at all about answering these checkbox questions, please contact the China Desk. Section 3.8: Leave all of these fields BLANK! Section 4.1: YOU MUST SIGN AND DATE THE APPLICATION. The date must be May 15, 2018 Section 5: There is no reason you should complete this section. Leave all of these fields BLANK Before printing, please confirm: Current Nationality: U.S. Citizen Leave any and all passport information blank. 5 Do not staple your application or photos. Once you ve completed the PDF of your visa application: 1. Print 1 visa form. 2. Sign and date the visa form. May 15, Paperclip TWO China-specifically sized photos (in addition to the 2 photos needed for your passport application) to your visa application. On the back of all your photos, please print your name. Please refer to photo instructions below. 4. the China Desk (china@peacecorps.gov) a digital copy of your China specific passport photo and fillable PDF of your application. 5. Mail your passport application, visa application, and passport photos to the address provided. You need to use a mailing service to send us your travel documents (i.e. DHL, UPS, or Fed Ex). Please remember to retain your tracking number.
