2 Use of AS Money: The Following Can NOT be funded by an A.S. entity: 1) Travel or Transportation Costs (only exception involves specific request from Finance Board directly) 2) Food Expenditures over $500 per year (from ALL BCCs combined) 3) Expenses related to off-campus special events, banquets, and picnics (excluding Isla Vista) 4) Equipment purchases, ONLY rentals are allowed, unless the equipment is to be donated to AS 5) Awards, trophies, gifts or scholarships for individuals 6) Personal items including costumes 7) Publicity Bonds Finance Board -The Finance Board is responsible for allocating a yearly budget of over $9.4 million that is used to foster leadership, give to the community, and enhance the experience of UCSB students. Meetings are held every Monday in the State Street room at 4:00pm. For questions, please contact your Finance Board Liaison. -New groups can request for a $250 start up - Each student group has their own liaison 2

4 Other Places Continued: -Women, Gender, & Sexual Equity -Isla Vista Tenants Union -MultiCultural Center Community Grants CommUnity Grants fund activities that promote cross-cultural exploration and dialogue around issues related to identity in order to build understanding and unity. Here, identities is used in a broad sense and includes, but is not limited to sex or gender, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or spirituality, ability, national origin, and familial status. 4
5 Student-Initiated Outreach Program (SIOP) The Student Initiated Outreach Program allocates funds to facilitate outreach projects by currently registered UCSB student organizations. Consideration is given to projects that are designed to increase the eligibility and college attendance rates of underrepresented, low-income, and other specifically identified disadvantaged populations. Mandatory orientation: October 17, 3:00-5:30 Multipurpose Room Application deadline: Friday, December 6, After Dark Sponsored by a registered OSL student organization or Associated Students entity Social, recreational or entertainment-based Scheduled for a Thursday, Friday or Saturday Scheduled to begin in the late night hours (after 8:00 p.m.) Open to the entire UCSB student population at a low cost amount or free and held in a public venue, on campus or in I.V. Alcohol-free or non alcohol centered 5
6 Other forms of fundraising - In-kind donations for events: food, supplies, t-shirts, etc - Grants: family, local, and corporate foundations. You should contact Student Affairs Grants and Development before applying marsano-v@sa.ucsb.edu - Scholarship funds. Contact Student Affairs Grants and Development if the fund will be administered by the university. - University tax-id number If your student organization approaches off-campus vendors for inkind donations (i.e. Vons for breakfast foods for an event), sponsorships, and other forms of financial support, you must provide the vendor with the sample Student Organization Verification letter. Non-tax deductible in-kind donation, sponsorship, cash support Payable directly to the registered student organization Coleen deposits the check into the student organization account Tax-deductible in-kind donation, sponsorship, cash support * The student organization contacts Viviana with vendor/donor contact information Viviana contacts vendor/donor and arranges processing of payment * It is the policy of the University of California, Santa Barbara and the UC Santa Barbara Foundation that a modest portion of gifts and/or the income from gifts may be used to defray the costs of raising and administering funds; currently this portion is set at 6%. 6
