2 Breakout Session 2 What we hope to learn from this Session on Community Partnerships: How organizations define Community Partnerships Why a Community Partnership is important to a large non-profit The positive impacts of a Community Partnership Why Community Partnerships are important to partners How to translate success back to your county
3 What is a Community Partnership? Definition of Community Partner, Indiana University: A community partner may be the following: local, state, national, international, public, community-based, private and academic organization Partnerships will promote student engagement, workforce development, continuing education, community service and collaborative and community-based research
4 Why is a Community Partnership Important? Importance of Partnerships, the American Academy of Pediatrics: They are an important component of community advocacy efforts They can enhance community engagement in projects, increase community awareness of the issues being addressed They can establish a framework for the continued support of services that support child health in communities
5 Why is a Community Partnership Important? Importance of Partnerships, the American Academy of Pediatrics: Partnerships multiply the power of advocacy efforts and build strength in numbers Partnerships get other individuals, organizations, alliances, and coalitions involved to accomplish your advocacy goal Partnerships increase the number of people and groups working to achieve your goal

7 A Successful Community Partnership March of Dimes Foundation defines a partnership as - a body of individuals and organizations working together on a common goal or issue of importance to the community often formed to strengthen the impact of a community education, outreach or advocacy program

9 Successful Community Partnership How did the March of Dimes become a success? Identified the problem a devastating disease affecting children Set a goal to end the disease Created a plan raise dimes to fund research Partnered with famous friends to raise money Successful fundraising led to a cure for Polio Later, they set a new goal, created a new plan, and identified new partners to achieve the new goal
