24 IncoNet EaP: Bibliometic Analysis of EU-EaP joint publications Goals: Provide a picture and an analysis of the state-ofthe-art and recent trends in EU/AC-EaP research collaboration Provide input, via the IncoNet EaP project, to the political dialogue, joint agenda setting and Horizon 2020 related activities Focus specifically on a number of topics considered relevant for both EaP and Europe: Climate Change, Energy and Health. What collaboration is going on in this fields? Make the ongoing collaboration visible
25 IncoNet EaP: Bibliometic Analysis of EU-EaP joint publications (cont) Sources: data retrieved from Elsevier s Scopus database and Thomson-Reuters Web of Science (WoS) database in May 2014: Data from 2003 to 2013 with at least one author affiliated with an institution in a EaP country Full counting: Each publication involving country x and country y is counted as exactly one co-publication between these countries (neither more not less), regardless of the number of authors involved (in case there are 3 authors in country x and 2 in country y, the record is still only counted as 1 co-publication between these countries).
26 IncoNet EaP: Bibliometic Analysis of EU-EaP joint publications (cont) EaP publications from (indexed journal publications including journal papers, proceedings, book series, etc.): 139,279 AM: 9,330 AZ: 7,597 BY: 20,161 GE: 8,257 MD: 4,154 UA: 92,763 (sum is 142,262; i.e. in some Publications EaP Cs were multiple represented) All EaP publications listed in Scopus : 119,601 All EaP publications listed in WoS : 95,027
27 IncoNet EaP: Bibliometic Analysis of EU-EaP joint publications (cont) Share of international co-authored papers from EaP (2012) AM: 55% AZ: 38% BY: 51% GE: 55% MD: 54% UA: 34% For means of comparison, the international co-authorship shares in 2012 in other countries: France: 49% UK: 47% Germany: 46% US: 31% Russia: 30% South Korea: 27% India: 16% China: 15%

IncoNet EaP: No. of (co)-publication in Energy over time 29
30 Conclusions Energy is supported at the national level in most EaP countries via the national STI programs or bi-lateral programmes with EU MS. However, the role Energy plays in the activities funded by international donors is much higher than the EaP national authorities provide for it. Though FP7 jointly with INOGATE and ENPI are the major donors of the EaP countries in Energy STI, the participation in FP7/H2020 is not as it could be. Publication output is in all EaP countries stable or slightly increasing. Smaller the country is, higher share of co-publications in the total number of publications it has. Percentage of co-publications of AM, AZ, BY and GE is increasing, while it is declining in UA and MD. In Energy, the total number of publications is decreasing. At the same time, the number of co-publications is growing. Co-publications with the EU/AC countries have a high growth that proves the importance and potential for increasing the EU-EaP collaboration.
31 IncoNet EaP: support & coordination activities to promote EU-EaP cooperation in Energy Grants to cover participation of EaP researchers in brokerages and big conferences in EU 47 grants, including 12 in Energy Stakeholders conference 0n EU-EaP STI cooperation in addressing Energy, , Minsk, Belarus 12 information days on H2020 in EaP countries within Twinning grants to support H2020 proposals developers 8 grants (2015) 5 grants (2016) in particular, 6 grants for the applications which include BY teams
