1 RBC Show Arbie and WIN Student Photo Contest Official Rules and Regulations Questions: The sponsor of the RBC Show Arbie and WIN Student Photo Contest (the Contest ) is Royal Bank of Canada (the Bank or the Sponsor ). Please read these Contest rules (the Contest Rules ) in their entirety before entering the Contest. Do not enter the Contest unless you agree to these Contest Rules. Participation in the Contest constitutes unconditional agreement and acceptance of these Contest Rules which are final on all matters relating to the Contest. By entering this Contest you agree to be bound by the decisions of contest judges which are final and binding in all respects. 1. Contest Period: The Contest start date is 5:00:01 p.m. EST on September 9 th, 2011 and the Contest closing date is 11:59pm EST on September 30 th, 2011 (the Contest Period ). 2. Eligibility: This Contest is only open to residents of Canada, except for those living in the province of Quebec, who are presently enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized Canadian educational institution and who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence on or before the start of the Contest Period. Contestants who have not reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence will require written consent by his/her parent or legal guardian. Contest is closed to employees of the Bank, its affiliates, the prize sponsors of this Contest and each of their respective independent contest agencies and promotional agencies, or anyone domiciled with any of the foregoing employees. All entrants must have a personal Facebook profile in order to enter the Contest. 3. Method of Contest Entry: No purchase necessary. Contestants must enter online at (the RBC Royal Bank Facebook Page ) and complete the following steps: a. Print one of the Arbie images on the site listed above. b. Cut out the Arbie image(s) where indicated along the dotted line. You must ensure that your cut-out includes the trademark TM symbol as provided. c. Take a picture of Arbie, showing him how $1,000 would improve your student life. d. Complete the online form correctly, including all the mandatory fields. e. Input a title (max. 40 characters) and description (max. 100 characters) that best explains how $1000 would improve their student life (picture, title and description hereinafter referred to as Submission ).
2 - 2 - f. Upload your picture on the RBC Royal Bank Facebook Page when prompted. File size must not exceed 1MB, and is acceptable only in JPG format. Duplications of Arbie: Arbie should only be represented through the provided images on the above site. An unlimited number of cut-out paper Arbies are permitted in your photo. Photos cannot be digitally enhanced, altered or manipulated in any way. Arbie images must be cut out where indicated on the site listed above. Your picture must not represent Arbie in any potentially dangerous or precarious situations. Your Submission must not contain: (a) material that is hateful, tortuous, defamatory, slanderous or libelous, that promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age; (b) any form of propaganda or inappropriate or offensive language; (c) material that violates or infringes another s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement; (d) any third party trademarks, trade names or corporate logos (other than Arbie); or (e) any changes or alterations to Arbie s appearance. Contest entries are limited to one (1) Submission per personal profile on Facebook for consideration to the judging panel. Once your Submission has been deemed appropriate by the judging panel and in accordance with the Contest Rules, the Submission will be posted publically for voting on the above listed site. The judging panel reserves the right to not approve any Submission for any reason whatsoever without notice to the respective entrant. 4. Prizes: There will be ten (10) prizes available to be won, consisting of: Top 10 by number of votes Prize value in CDN dollars 1 $5,000 2 $3,000 3 $1,000 4 $1,000 5 $1,000 6 $1,000 7 $1,000 8 $1,000 9 $1, $1,000 Total: $16,000
3 - 3 - Total prize approximate retail value is $16, CDN. 5. Winning Picture Selection: The panel of judges will review all Submissions for appropriateness and compliance with these rules. All approved Submissions will be posted online within 1-2 business days of submission date for voting by the general public. The judging panel also reserves the right to withhold its approval decisions with respect to any Submissions for an unlimited period of time for evaluation. All approved Submissions will be posted online on the RBC Royal Bank Facebook Page for voting by the general public starting 5:00pm on or after September 9 th until 11:59pm, September 30 th, A limit of one vote per personal profile on Facebook, per day will apply. The ten (10) entries receiving the most legitimate votes will be selected as the prize winners from among all entries based on, and as determined solely by the Bank s records at the end of the Contest Period, which records will be deemed final and conclusive on all matters. If a tie occurs within the top 10 entries with the most votes (meaning more than one entry receives the same number of votes) a random draw will be conducted amongst those tied entries. The first entry selected in the random draw will be awarded the highest ranking prize at that level, the second entry in the random draw will be awarded the next highest ranking prize at that level, etc, until all tied entries are awarded a sequential ranking prize. If a tie occurs, such that a second of subsequent entry selected in a random draw falls out of the top 10, they will not be awarded a prize. Any duplicate or fraudulent votes, as deemed by the contest Sponsor will be removed and will not count towards a finalists vote total. Odds of winning will depend upon the number of Submissions received during the Contest Period. Voting trading is not permitted. Use of any online vote trading site may result in disqualification of a Submission, at the sole discretion of the Sponsor. 6. Declaration and Releases: Prior to being eligible to win, the selected entrant will be contacted, by telephone and by Stincor Van Smith Marketing on October 3, If Stincor Van Smith Marketing is unable to contact the selected entrant within 7 days of October 3, 2011, he/she will forfeit the prize and the next eligible entrant (based on number of votes) will be eligible to win the prize (subject to compliance with these Contest Rules). Winners will be notified by Stincor Van Smith Marketing to make arrangements for the awarding of their respective prizes. Each potential winner will be required to sign a standard Declaration of Compliance with Contest Rules, Publicity and Liability Release form and consent in the form and manner provided, consenting to the use of their name, city or province/territory and/or photograph and/or video, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Bank and/or its affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies relating to this Contest, including posting to a website (including, but not limited to social networking websites, such as Facebook) and releasing the Bank, the Contest organizer and independent contest organization, its promotional agencies and each of the other prize sponsors and their respective, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents, from any liability relating to this Contest, its publicity, social networking websites linked to the Contest or any prizes.
4 - 4 - If a potential winner fails to sign and return the required documents within 72 hours of receiving same by fax or , the Bank reserves the right to void that entry and select another eligible entrant until the prizes are awarded. Any substitution will be at the sole discretion of the Bank. Any taxes, fees or incidental charges applicable to any prizes shall be the sole responsibility of the winners of that prize. 7. Assignment of Rights in Submission: All Submission shall be the property of the Bank and will not be returned or acknowledged. By submitting a Submission, the entrants grant the Sponsor and/or its affiliates, related and subsidiary companies, and/or any of their licensees, agents and promotional agencies, the right to use their including their name, image, likeness or voice or any part thereof, for any purpose it deems appropriate, including without limitation for internal or external communications in any marketing material whether in print, radio, television, interactive media, or any other media throughout the world in all languages, in perpetuity in connection with this Contest without further compensation. All winners will be required to sign an assignment and release of these their rights to their Submission prior to accepting their prize. 8. Substitution of Prizes: The Bank and each prize sponsor reserve the right, in the event that a prize or any component of a prize cannot be awarded as described for any reason, to substitute a similar prize or component of a prize of equal or greater value without liability. 9. Decisions Final/Property of the Bank: By entering, each entrant agrees to abide by these Contest Rules and acknowledges and agrees that the decisions of the Bank, the judging panel and the independent contest organization, are final. All entries become the property of the Bank and none will be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with the selected entrants. 10. Lost/Stolen Entries/Cancelling Contest: The Bank, its promotional agencies and independent contest organizers and each of their respective affiliates, employees, directors and officers (collectively, the Releasees ) are not responsible for entries that may be lost, damaged, illegible, irregular, misdirected, delayed or not received. The Releasees will not be responsible for telephone, technical, operational, network, on-line, electronic, computer hardware or software failures of any kind, misdirected, stolen, incomplete, garbled or delayed Internet/ , computer or telephone transmissions on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, or any combination thereof, including any damage to an entrant s or any other person s computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials relating to this Contest. If, for any reason, any portion of this Contest is not capable of running as planned or if the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest is corrupted or adversely affected, including without limitation by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond its control, or for any reason whatsoever, the Bank reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify (including extending the Contest Period) or suspend the Contest without individual notice.
