2 COUNCIL FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT DESIGN REVIEW SUB-COUNCIL DESIGN REVIEW SUB-COUNCIL REPORT From: Ms. Lilia Gonzales Design Review Sub-Council Chair Date: December 7, 2016 Subject: Texas Historical Marker for World War I Contributions The Design Review sub-council (DRsc) reviewed a request from University Libraries for the installation of a Texas Historical Marker commemorating Texas A&M s contributions to World War I. If approved by the CBE, the marker will then be submitted through the Brazos County Historical Commission for final approval by the Texas Historical Commission. Funding for the marker will be provided by the Brazos County Historical Commission. The plaque would be constructed in the standard design for state historical markers and is proposed to be pole-mounted. Currently there are six state historical markers on Texas A&M s campus. Three are pole-mounted, while the others are mounted on stone or brick plinths. The proposed location for the marker is in the Academic Plaza area as it is the most central location where war training activities took place on campus. Two options for placement were proposed. Recommendation The DRsc voted to recommend approval of the request for addition of a Texas Historical Marker commemorating Texas A&M s contribution to World War I as proposed with the following caveats: - Recommend shifting the Option 2 location further west so it is adjacent to Military Walk. - Approve the single post mount as shown, with the intent that this will be the standard mounting style for any future historical marker installations on campus. Please contact me with any questions. cc: DRsc Members
