2 What you will gain by being a PMI-CCVC Student Member: 1. Learn about Project Management 2. Network with Industry Professionals 3. Meet and work with students from other area universities 4. Provide Peer Leadership Opportunities 5. Find about and get selected for Internships in local companies 6. Be offered opportunities to gain Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential 7. Gain project management experience that would be used later for PMP certification 8. Potential to be selected Student Chair oversee student involvement in AF at your campus 9. Potential to be selected Next Generation Leader & attend PMI Regional/National Leadership Meetings

3 Academic Forum Guidelines: Having multiple campus Academic Forums promotes growth Academic Forum model also allows PMI governance that promotes student membership and accountability to a prestigious global professional organization (and also the largest!) Each University identifies an AF Faculty Sponsor/Advisor and Student Chair Each appointed AF Faculty Sponsor/Advisor joins PMI chapter as student member (prerequisite to appointment) provides oversight for both the university and PMI Each appointed AF Student Chair joins PMI chapter as student member (prerequisite to appointment) invites students they know through academic courses to AF meetings shows peers that AF mtgs are a great way to network with industry leaders meet professionals who know who are looking to hire to earn referrals by helping run meetings recruit peers to become fellow team leaders seek to replace themselves with those they can mentor as leaders Dr. Justin Garcia, DeVry Univ., Fresno Faculty Advisor AF Chair Dr. Tom Wielicki, CSU, Fresno Faculty Advisor Past AF Chair Dr. True Moua, Univ of Phoenix Faculty Advisor Brandon Sepulveda CSU, Fresno Student Chair Rafael Cruz Devry Univ., Fresno Student Chair

4 Academic Forum Expansion Plans Since 2014, the Academic Forum has grown to involve four Fresno area universities Plans include growth to 9 or more other Central Valley-based Universities

6 Student Event Coordination (SEC) Features Student Led, Student Run Frequent team meetings Learning through leadership Responsible for coordinating Academic Forum meetings and Chapter meetings/events Follows Meeting Logistics Checklist to ensure proper marketing, registration, A/V, and hospitality

7 Academic Forum Meetings Professional speakers geared towards student audiences Once a month Rotates between three campuses: California State University, Fresno (CSUF) DeVry University, Fresno Campus University of Phoenix, Fresno Campus Three of our CSUF Interns shared what they learned at this AF Meeting Bitwise Industries is the mothership of technological education, collaboration and innovation CSUF uses their South Stadium Building for training their students in programming skills Dr. Don Stengel hosts the October 2015 AF Meeting.
