These issues must be seen to be truly understood. This session will offer participants an objective glimpse at issues related to all states and provide an in-depth perspective on lessons learned from the past that will inform future state action. Governor Branstad Presents: Feeding and Fueling the World This hour-long session will include interested U.S. governors and international leaders in a discussion on how trade and innovation is vital to feeding and fueling a growing world population that is expected to reach 9 billion by the year Agriculture, bioscience and renewable energy are major industries in nearly every state in the nation, and governors play an active role in promoting their states exports to the global marketplace. WELCOME RECEPTION FOR GOVERNORS, SPONSORS AND OTHER INVITED GUESTS Closed to Press Governors, spouses and sponsors are invited to a private reception at the Iowa State Capitol, located in the heart of Des Moines East Village. Recognized as one of the most unique and only five-domed capitol buildings in the country, the Iowa State Capitol boasts a glowing 23-karat golden dome and nearly 30 varieties of marble on the interior. Invited guests will sample delicious hors d oeuvres and cocktails, gain special access to the most ornate portions of the building and enjoy entertainment by local artists. A formal photo opportunity will be available to interested guests. 1

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Hall of Laureates is an ornate commemoration of Iowa s history of agricultural production and feeding the world. Located on the Des Moines River and accompanied by beautiful gardens, the building serves as an historical, educational and inspirational venue for local and international visitors alike, and honors native Iowan and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. Norman Borlaug. Guests will experience eclectic food and entertainment. The evening will feature a live painting experience and roaming melodies by local artists the Brazilian 2wins. 4

(July 14-17) Thursday-Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Iowa Events Center Sunday, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m., Marriott Downtown Des Moines Governors and their spouses, Iowa sponsors, Corporate Fellows and NGA attendees are invited to partner with Outreach, Inc., in a meal-packaging event. As part of an effort to provide safe water, food, medical care and education to those in need, the Outreach program organizes foodpackaging events around the country and has provided ingredients to package more than 330 million meals. The meals packaged during this event will benefit the Iowa Food Bank. 7
