At other times, the SERP- II Institute office is located in the northwest corner of the Village Center (1e on the map). Institute Overview and Expectations, preview of Action Plan template Chris Finelli 2:30-3:00 Icebreaker - Karen Aguirre 3:00-3:30 Introduction to Work Session: STEM Department Change Strategies and a Systems Approach for Our Work - Ellen Goldey 3:30-4:30 Team Work Session: Developing a Shared Vision - Team members share and discuss individual pre- Institute assessments from STEM Department Evaluation Rubric and priorities for their department. 4:45-6:15 Poster session and reception (light hors d oeuvres, beer, wine) Posters showcase progress of SERP- I Alumni Departments and some of the New Departments Great Oaks Hall; Milliken Science Center. 6:30-8:30 Opening Banquet and Plenary Address: "Minding the structural and psychological variables important for minority student success: Insights from minority- serving institutions" - Jose Herrera, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Western New Mexico University (WNMU), Silver City, NM Harley Room, Richardson Athletics Center. SERP- I alumni are invited to convene with PULSE Fellows to brainstorm next steps for PULSE in the Southeast (seeking extramural funding, forming PULSE Chapters within our region; identifying leadership within each Chapter, etc.) Chris Finelli and Mary Smith, moderators, Western end of Great Oaks Hall of Milliken Science Center. Off the clock Dinner on your own there are several good Spartanburg restaurants. Ellen recommends Cribbs Kitchen ($$), Monsoon Noodle House ($), Lime Leaf ($$) or Renato s Italian ($$$) all are located on E. Main Street downtown, less than a 15- minute walk from campus. From the Village on the Wofford Campus, walk west on Evins Street and turn south (left) on N. Church St. toward downtown. When you reach Main Street, the Lime Leaf is on this corner (across the street). For the other restaurants, head west (right) on Main Street and Monsoon and Renato s will appear on your left. Kribbs is a few blocks farther. Carriage House Wine (just before you reach Kribbs) is open until 7:00 pm and Tony, the owner, can give you plenty of advice to fit your tastes. Hub City Bookstore and Cakehead Bakery are next door to Tony s anytime you need a good latte and book browsing. RJ Rockers Brewery is next door to Cribbs. 2

Day 4, Saturday, 6/4/2016 8:00-8:45 Breakfast; Each 2016 Team puts finishing touches on Action Plan; Team Leader uploads Action Plan (!) to: 9:00-10:45 Teams give 5 minute overview of Action Plan; discussion of Action Plans in Subgroups with other teams.
