To foster uniformity of standards in interscholastic activity competition. To organize, develop, direct and regulate an interscholastic activity program which is equitable and will protect and promote the health and physical welfare of all participants.

2 CROSS COUNTRY The NSAA Cross Country Championships were held in Kearney on October 21, Ron Higdon, NSAA Assistant Director, served as the meet director. The Kearney Country Club course was 5,000 meters for boys and 5,000 meters for girls. There were four districts in Classes A, B and C with the top three teams and top-15 individuals qualifying for the state championships. Class D had six districts with the top three teams and top-15 individuals qualifying for the state meet. Attendance: 6,408. Class A Boys Team Scores 1. 4 FOOTBALL The 2016 NSAA Football Playoffs began on Thursday, October 27 for Classes D1 and D2. Thirty-two teams qualified for the playoffs in D1 and D2. Second-round games were scheduled for Wednesday, November 2. Playoff rounds for D1 and D2 continued with the quarterfinals on November 8. D1 and D2 semifinals were on Monday, November 14. Classes A, B, C1 and C2 qualified 16 for the playoffs and played their first-round games on October 28 and their second-round games on November 4. Class A, B, C1 and C2 semifinals were played on November 11. Championship finals for all classes were held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for the 21st consecutive year. Classes D1, D2 and A played their championship finals on November 21, while C1, C2 and B played November 22. Attendance for state finals: 15,312. Class A was made up of the 28 largest schools playing football. The top three teams in the four districts and the next four teams with the highest wild-card point average advanced to the playoffs. The next 32 largest schools were Class B. The eight district champions and the next eight teams with the highest wild-card point average made the playoffs. The next 43 schools were Class C1. The remaining schools playing 11-man football (44) were Class C2. Classes D1 and D2 consisted of all schools playing 8-man football. There were 53 in D1 and 54 in D2. Eleven schools playing eight-man were above the playoff eligibility enrollment limit. In Classes C1 and C2 the eight district champions and the next 8 teams with the highest wild-card point average qualified for the playoffs. In Classes D1 and D2 the 10 district champions and the next 22 teams with the highest wild-card point average qualified for the playoffs. 6 GIRLS GOLF One hundred and forty-one schools registered for girls golf in There were four districts in Class A, four in Class B and five in Class C. The top three teams and 10 individuals, including ties, from each district participated in the 2016 Girls State Golf Championships. The state championships were held October 10 & 11. The Norfolk Country Club hosted the Class A Championships, while Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus hosted Class B. Class C was played in North Platte at the Lake Maloney Golf Course. 10 UNIFIED SPORTS, BOWLING The Inaugural Unified Sports, Bowling NSAA State Championship was held on December 5, 2016 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, NE. Following a season in which 43 schools across the state participated, eight teams qualified for the State Championships from geographically placed districts. Opening ceremonies included words of encouragement and support for this exciting new program from NSAA Board Chair Wendy Henrichs, NSAA Executive Director Dr. Jim Tenopir and Special Olympics Nebraska President Carolyn Chamberlin. 11 VOLLEYBALL The 45th State Volleyball Championships were held November 10, 11, and 12, 2016 with Jennifer Schwartz, NSAA Assistant Director, serving as championship director. Competition was offered in six classes. In Class A, there were seven district champions and one wild-card team that qualified for the state championships. The Class A wild-card team was Lincoln Southwest. In Classes B, C1, and C2 there were eight district final winners that qualified for state. In the other two classes, the six district champions automatically qualified for the state tournament and two wild-card teams were chosen to complete the field of eight teams in each class. For Class D1, Johnson-Brock and Elgin Public/Pope John were wild-card qualifiers and in D2, Wynot and CWC (Chambers/Wheeler Central) won the wild card. This was the twelveth year for rally-scoring and a best-of-five format was used for state championship matches as Lincoln hosted the championship matches. The Pinnacle Bank Arena hosted matches on Thursday and Friday on double courts. Single courts were used at Lincoln North Star, Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln East, Lincoln Northeast. The Pinnacle Bank Arena hosted semifinal matches on Friday. The championship finals were played at the Devaney Sports Center on Saturday, November 12, while third-place matches in classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 were played at Lincoln Southeast High School.
