To foster uniformity of standards in interscholastic activity competition. To organize, develop, direct and regulate an interscholastic activity program which is equitable and will protect and promote the health and physical welfare of all participants.

4 Fifty-five schools played baseball during the 2014 season. Class A consisted of the top 26 teams. The remaining schools were placed in Class B. Classes A and B used a serpentine method to arrange district play. Class A advanced six district champions and two wild-card teams (Millard South and Bellevue West) to the state tournament. Class B advanced six district champions and two wild-card teams (Bennington and Crete) to the eight-team field. The State Baseball Championships were played May 11, in both Omaha and Lincoln this year. Omaha s Werner Park and Fricke Field served as sites for the Class B tournament while Hawks Field at Haymarket Park and Sherman Field in Lincoln hosted the Class A tournament. The state championship used a double-elimination format for the 15th year, but used the Legion Bracket, where all remaining teams in the tournament are required to play every day, for the fourth straight season. Werner Park hosted first round games and winner s bracket games for Class B. Hawks Field at Haymarket Park served as host for the first round games and winner s bracket games in Class A. Fricke Field and Sherman Field hosted elimination games for Class B and Class A, respectively. The Class B championship finals were played at Werner Park and the Class A championships finals were played at Sherman Field. NSAA Assistant Director Jon Dolliver served as the championship director. 5 BOYS BASKETBALL Boys basketball had six classes in Each class qualified eight teams for the NSAA Boys State Basketball Championships held on March 13, 14, & 15, 2014, in Lincoln. Class A was divided into seven districts with the district champions and one wild-card team, selected on the basis of a point system, qualifying for the state tournament. Norfolk was the wild-card team for Class A. Class B was divided into six districts with the district champions and two wild-card teams, selected on the basis of a point system, qualifying for the state tournament. York and Omaha Skutt Catholic were the Class B wild-card teams. For the ninth year in NSAA history, Classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 also had two wild-card qualifiers. Classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 were divided into twelve sub-districts and six districts. The winners of the district finals in each class advanced to the state tournament. The two non-district champions with the highest wild-card average received invitations to the state tournament. The Class C1 wild-card qualifiers were Boone Central/Newman Grove and Wahoo. Doniphan-Trumball and Southern Valleywere the C2 wild cards. In D1, Howells-Dodge and Elm Creek received the wild cards. Falls City Sacred Heart and Bancroft-Rosalie were the D2 wild-card winners. For the seventh consecutive season, the NSAA played third-place games, pairing the two teams losing in the semifinal round. Paid attendance: 85,119. 7 CROSS COUNTRY The NSAA Cross Country Championships were held in Kearney on October 25, Jon Dolliver, NSAA Assistant Director, served as the meet director. The Kearney Country Club course was 5,000 meters for boys and 5,000 meters for girls. There were four districts in Classes A, B and C with the top three teams and top-15 individuals qualifying for the state championships. Class D had six districts with the top three teams and top-15 individuals qualifying for the state meet. Paid attendance: 5,869. Class A Boys Team Scores 1. 9 FOOTBALL The State Football Playoffs began on Thursday, October 31 for Classes C1, C2, D1, and D2. Thirty-two teams qualified for the playoffs in C1, C2, D1, and D2. Second-round games were schedule for Wednesday, November 6. Playoff rounds for Classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 continued with the quarterfinals on November 12. D1 and D2 semifinals were on Monday, November 18, while C1 and C2 semifinals were November 19. Classes A & B qualified 16 for the playoffs and played its first-round games on November 1 and its second-round games on November 8. Class A & B semifinals were also played on November 15. Championship finals for all classes were held at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for the 18th consecutive year. Classes D1, D2 and B played their championship finals on November 25, while C1, C2 and A played November 26. Paid attendance for state finals: 19,643. Class A was made up of the 28 largest schools playing football. The top two teams in the five districts and then next six teams with the highest wild-card point average advanced to the playoffs. The next 32 largest schools were Class B. The eight district champions and with next eight teams with the highest wild-card point average made the playoffs. The next 48 schools were Class C1. The remaining schools playing 11-man football (48) were Class C2. Classes D1 and D2 consisted of all schools playing 8-man football. There were 57 in D1 and 57 in D2. Four schools playing eight-man were above the playoff eligibility enrollment limit. In Classes C1, C2, D1, and D2 the 10 district champions and the next 22 teams with the highest wild-card point average qualified for the playoffs. 13 SOCCER The 2014 Boys and Girls State Soccer Championships were on May 14, 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20 at Creighton University s Morrison Stadium in Omaha. The largest 28 schools participating in soccer were placed in Class A with the remaining schools placed in Class B. Competition in Class A used a serpentine method to arrange district play. Class A advanced seven district champions and one wild-card team (Lincoln Southeast Girls and Lincoln East Boys) to the state championships. The Class B field consisted of eight sub-state winners.
