This presentation will explore key fundamental issues regarding both energy retrofit and designbuild, highlight the opportunities and explore the potential pitfalls by means of mini-case studies. It used to be that buildings needed to keep out the elements and stand up under standard service loads. This is no longer enough. Now we need to be concerned about a myriad of attack modes including vehicles penetrating perimeters and aggressors bringing bombs to facilities.
