6 IOSH WORKING SAFELY COURSE OVERVIEW IOSH working safely course is widely considered to be the industry-standard health and safety training course for workers in the UK. The IOSH working safely course covers a wide variety of health and safety topics, that reflect the typical health, safety and welfare issues that workers face in their workplace. This course is now recognised by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) as equivalent to a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. This means that anyone who has successfully completes the course - and passes the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test for Operatives, can apply for a CSCS Labourer Green Card (to help them gain easier access to UK construction sites). 7 IOSH MANAGING SAFELY COURSE OVERVIEW The course is for candidates who are looking to acquire knowledge and practical skills to manage competently, the health and safety issues at their workplace and to international accredited levels. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of the course, learners should be able to: Apply basic management principles and practices to health and safety issues as part of a total business strategy. Set practical health and safety objectives, plan and implement courses of action to achieve those objectives. Recognise safety and health hazards present in the workplace. Ensure adequate information, training and supervision is provided. Investigate incidents and take remedial action. Understand and implement their legal responsibilities. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? The course is designed for everyone obliged with any responsibility for managing health and safety requiring a broad based knowledge in health and safety and has a need to develop practical safe systems of work. COURSE DURATION The course is delivered full time (3 days) or through e-learning. A short written/objective multiple-choice paper. 2. A workplace based written assignment. Delegates who have attended and successfully completed both the practical and written assessments will be awarded the Managing Safety certificate issued by IOSH. (A minimum pass grade of 70% is required for certification) Note: Training is in English but candidates can request their final examination in dual language; English Mandarin Chinese, English Malay, English Indonesian Bahasa, English French, English German, English Nederland (Dutch) or English Khmer (Cambodia). 8 IOSH DIRECTING SAFELY COURSE OVERVIEW IOSH Directing Safely provides an understanding of the moral, legal and business case for proactive health and safety management and to give guidance on effective risk management. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of the course, learners should be able to: Understand the importance of strategic health & safety management and its integration into business management systems. Understand the health & safety roles and responsibilities of directors and senior executives. Appreciate the consequences of failing to manage health & safety effectively. Plan and implement policies for health & safety. Appreciate the importance of an adequately resourced health & safety management system. Appreciate the significance of performance monitoring and review for continual improvement of health & safety management. 9 IOSH ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION COURSE OVERVIEW This course aims to provide employees with an understanding of the importance of accident investigation, the methods adopted in investigating accidents, the importance of reporting and understanding how to react to ensure effective reporting. COURSE OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of the course, learners should be able to: Understand the importance of reporting accidents. Understand the steps taken in carrying out a detailed investigation. Identify the root of underlying causes of accidents. Understand the loss causation model. Understand reporting requirements after an accident. Appreciate the problems in getting all accidents reported. Understand how to react so that accidents are to be reported. 10 IOSH WORKING AT HEIGHT COURSE OVERVIEW The course is for candidates who are looking to acquire knowledge and practical skills to manage competently such as the health and safety issues regarding Work at Height at their workplace. COURSE OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, delegates will be able to: Understand the legal duties and legislation required for Work at Height. Identify the hazards involved during work at height and the appropriate control measures to eliminate or minimise the risk which include; - Hazard Identification - Risk Assessment - Hierarchy of Control for risk - Control measures, review and record keeping Selection of appropriate work at height equipment. Appropriate use, inspect and maintenance of work at height PPE. Understand the importance and have the ability to implement a fall protection plan. Emergency procedures and rescue plans. COURSE CONTENT Identify legislation related to Work at Height. Conduct hazard identification and risk assessment on safety & health. hazards and implement preventive measures related to work at height. Identify, use and care for fall prevention systems & equipment. Develop & implement a fall prevention plan. Application and use of personal fall protection equipment. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This IOSH accredited course is ideal for designers, facilities managers, supervisors, employees and employers who have a responsibility for or are involved in work at height activities. ENTRY REQUIREMENT Health and Safety awareness recommended. HOW IS IT ASSESSED? The course is assessed by a short written/multiple-choice paper and practical assessment which includes i) Inspection and proper fitting of personal fall protection equipment (PPE) ii) Correct usage of fall prevention system and various fall arrest equipment. Delegates who have attended and successfully completed both the practical and written assessments will be awarded the Working At Height Certificate issued by IOSH.
11 IOSH BEHAVIOURAL SAFETY FOR MANAGERS COURSE OVERVIEW This two day behavioural safety training course is for those seeking a clear and practical understanding of how effective behaviour change can be achieved to promote a positive health and safety culture. Delegates will develop an understanding of the psychology of behavior. It teaches the key theories which relate to effective behaviour management and the skills needed to explain the importance of managing workplace consequences.
