The Reserve Program will continually accept test scores and applications, the Reserve Program will add applicants to the Reserve Officer Eligibly List as scores and applications are submitted. Salary Information: Volunteer Contact Information: Reserve Police Officer Coordinator John Shadron Reserve Officer Program: This job posting is for VOLUNTEER RESERVE OFFICERS ONLY. The Portland Police Reserve Unit is men and women who volunteer their time and effort to make Portland a safe and pleasant community. Reserve officers are volunteers assigned to uniformed, armed duties or non-uniform, unarmed duties. Reserve officers receive training in a variety of law enforcement skills both academic and tactical. The local Reserve Academy starts annually in September and lasts for approximately five months. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays.

2 All training is free. The Reserve Program provides its officers with uniforms and other equipment, but they must buy their own protective vest. After successful completion of the Reserve Academy and under the direction of Reserve Commanders, our reserve officers will perform many duties similar to those of regular police officers. Some activities include: Patrol support (patrolling in uniform in a police car) Assist with arrests and transporting prisoners to jail Assist with special missions (drug details, prostitution missions) Presidential and VIP security Assist at traffic accidents, enforce traffic laws Community events; festivals, parades, marathons, sporting events Crime prevention activities Senior citizen programs Applicants must also complete a Reserve Officer Application to apply for this position. 3 Valid OREGON State Driver's License : Yes, must possess a valid US Drivers License Ability to Read/Speak English : Yes Vision : Have vision correctable to 20/30., if worse than 20/100, you must wear soft contact lenses to meet the 20/30 requirement. Schooling Prior and Post Hiring : Reserve Officers require a high school diploma or GED. Specific Disqualifiers/Behaviors : According to State & Federal Law - You cannot be a police officer in Oregon if: You cannot obtain a valid driver's license in your state of residence. You will not be a U.S. citizen within one year of being hired. NOTE: Citizenship application requires 5 years of residency. You have been convicted of driving under the influence of intoxicants (D.U.I.I.) within the past 3 years or have 2 or more D.U.I.I. convictions. A diversion or similar action is considered the same as a conviction. You have been convicted of Reckless Driving, Attempting to Elude, Hit and Run (Failure to perform the duties of a driver...), or Felony Driving While Suspended or Revoked within the last two years. DPSST has a 10-year look back period for which they review convictions to evaluate if a candidate will be approved for state police certification. You have been convicted of a Domestic Violence Assault. You have been convicted of a felony. You have been convicted of any crime involving controlled substances. You have a dishonorable discharge from the armed services. Recently or currently misrepresenting yourself or ignoring laws. Provided controlled substances to others, or have been involved in long-term criminal activity. Work history shows a pattern of unexcused absences, discipline, or discharge. Life activities (work, volunteer, hobbies) show little or no interest in serving the public or others. People who know you have doubts about your honesty or character. Have body art above collarbone or below wrists, except for reasonable cosmetic purposes.
