1 LINN COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE 1115 SE JACKSON STREET ALBANY, OREGON (541) Updated: January 10, 2018 Job Classification: Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) - Entry Level and Lateral Candidates The Linn County Sheriff's Office is currently recruiting for Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) for both Entry Level and Lateral transfer candidates. The Sheriff s Office is building an ongoing eligibility list for current and future positions. All testing must be completed by March 31, All candidates must complete the ORPAT and REACT tests for this position. ORPAT is scheduled separately from the NTN home page. You must schedule both a REACT and ORPAT test for this position. Testing for both REACT and ORPAT is available at the Brooklake campus of Chemeketa Community College. (For Out-of-State Applicants): An application may be accepted without an ORPAT score. However, an ORPAT score with NTN is required to move forward in the hiring process. Candidates who have completed both the ORPAT and REACT tests, must go to NEOGOV.com or and apply for the Deputy Sheriff (Corrections) position. Lateral applications are also being accepted. For lateral hires, salary compensation will be based on current experience level and pay (to be determined).

2 Salary Information: From $4,097 up to $5,160 per month (base salary) Bilingual Pay: Employees who are fluent in Spanish (and possibly Russian and/or American Sign Language) and use these skills while on duty will receive an additional 5% per month after passing a Standardized Language Fluency test administered by Linn County. Bilingual Pay is awarded at the discretion of the Sheriff. Benefit Information: The Linn County Sheriff s Office provides an excellent health coverage plan for employee and eligible dependents, including medical, vision, prescription, dental, and optional life insurance, and long term disability Potential of up to 17% in additional pay for certification, education, bi-lingual and special assignments. Linn County Sheriff s Office Deputies are enrolled in a retirement plan through the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), with county-pickup, along with 2% county-pickup deferred compensation plan Shift overtime is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate of pay (can be re-directed to employee's deferred compensation plan too). Corrections staff work a rolling four-days on/four-days off 12-hour shift schedule, and rotate days/nights every two months. Longevity pay of 2.5% on top of the base salary on 10th year anniversary, and an additional 2.5% on top of the base salary on 15th year anniversary At the discretion of the Sheriff, and after successful testing of abilities, bilingual employees are eligible for 5% incentive pay on top of the base salary All uniforms (including dry cleaning) and equipment provided. Yearly equipment allowance of $150. Paid vacation, personal and sick time. Minimum requirements for both Entry Level and Lateral Candidates: Must meet the following State Department of Public Safety Standards and Training requirements: United States Citizen within one year of employment At least 21 years of age at the time of employment Declared by a physician as able to perform the physical duties required by the occupation Of good moral fitness, without legal conduct involving moral turpitude, dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation, and conviction of drug and/or sex crimes. Must successfully complete all required training standards established by the Linn County Sheriff s Office and/or DPSST within one date of hire. Must meet the following Linn County Requirements: Must possess a current driver s license in the applicant s state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Linn County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services. Possess knowledge of and experience in using a keyboard, mouse and computer (PC) equipment.

4 Positions in this class are required to work rotating shifts, split shifts or other alternative work schedules and may be subject to call back. Finalists must pass psychological and medical/drug evaluations by a county appointed physician. Background Check: Finalists for this position will be subject to an extensive background investigation. Some issues that might cause an applicant to be withheld from further consideration include, but are not limited to the following: Felony convictions Misdemeanor convictions for: Domestic violence (DV); Currently named as the Respondent in a Restraining Order; Crime of dishonesty; and/or, Crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another. Illegal manufacture, transport, or sale of a controlled substance. Any repeated convictions of an offense, which indicate disrespect for the law, a lack of good moral character or disposition towards violence and disorder. Discharge from employment, where such discharge indicates poor behavior and/or an inability adjusting to discipline. Any military discharge with a characterization other than honorable may require additional documentation. Linn County may request written authorization to request official military records from the appropriate branch of service to make a determination regarding fitness for employment. Persons convicted of a petty larceny. Driving Disqualifiers: Must be a competent and licensed operator of vehicles in the State of Oregon. Drug Use Disqualifiers: No arrests or convictions for any felony or any misdemeanor crimes involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacturing of a controlled substance, narcotic or dangerous drug. Additional Disqualifiers: Must pass a thorough background investigation, psychological exam, medical exam including drug screen, and integrity interview that establishes strong moral character. Any conduct that could compromise the integrity of the employee, other employees, the Sheriff s Office or the County will be closely evaluated. Failure to read and follow directions may also disqualify candidates. The individual shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of the individual or others in the workplace.

5 Tentative Hiring Process: Review of NTN testing scores (REACT & ORPAT). Applicants must achieve a passing score of 80% or higher on the video exam. Applicants must pass all sections of the testing. Review of NEOGOV Application Informal minute face-to-face interview for eligible and invited applicants (followed by a short job tour). Formal oral board face-to-face interview for eligible and invited applicants. Conditional offer of employment extended to selected top candidates only.
