2 AVT-307 Symposium on Separated Flow: Prediction, Measurement and Assessment for Air and Sea Vehicles Framework of the Meeting The Applied Vehicle Panel (AVT) of the NATO Science and Technology Organization (STO) is organizing a symposium on Separated Flow: Prediction, Measurement and Assessment for Air and Sea Vehicles. The meeting is open to NATO Nations and four Enhanced Opportunity / Global Partners: Australia, Finland, Japan, and Sweden; the Symposium is classified as NATO UNCLASSIFIED OPEN TO AUSTRALIA, FINLAND, JAPAN, AND SWEDEN. The meeting will be held in Trondheim, Norway, October 2019, during the fall 2019 AVT Panel Business Meeting Week. The three day Symposium is planned to have approximately 36 papers, several of which will be invited. Full Symposium Proceedings will be published on the STO website: General Scope and Symposium Objectives The AVT-307 Technical Team is interested in establishing a new baseline in separated flow technology to capture advancements since the last NATO sponsored Symposium on Separated Flow in (See, AGARD CP-168.) The emphasis of the Symposium will be on smooth-surface separated flows relevant to the operation of advanced air and sea military vehicles. Contributions can range from systems to fundamental studies and can include numerical and experimental investigations. The objectives of the Symposium are to Establish a baseline for current and anticipated air and sea vehicle issues regarding separated flow effects Establish a baseline for current capability to predict separated flow effects and to measure separated flow phenomena that are relevant to air and sea vehicle needs Identify key separated flow issues that require further research and development. 2 AVT-307 Call for Papers PUBLIC RELEASE

3 Symposium Topics Papers are invited in the areas of: Juncture and corner flows (for example: wing-body or wing-pylon juncture flows, inlet corner flows, etc., for aircraft and ships) Vortex flows from wings and bodies (for example: leading-edge vortices, forebody vortices, aft-body vortices, etc., for aircraft and ships) Wing stall and wake flows (for example: high-lift flows, wake interaction flows, etc., for aircraft and ships) Shock/boundary-layer interactions (for example: supersonic inlet flows, transonic wing flows, etc., for aircraft) Free surface effects, ventilation, and cavitation (for example: free-surface induced vortices, bilge vortices, propeller flows, etc., for ships) Emphasis will be placed on smooth-surface separation phenomena. All topics can include laminar flows, transitional flows, turbulent flows, and Reynolds number scaling effects. All topics can also include experimental and numerical investigations. Contributions can range from systems to fundamental studies, although fundamental studies must identify their relevance to vehicle needs. Authors are requested to identify the topic to which their paper applies. Background and Justification - Relevance to NATO Separated flows are a critical issue to the aerodynamic and hydrodynamic performance of aircraft and ships. Although air and sea vehicles are traditionally designed to develop attached flow at cruise conditions, they also routinely develop separated flows within their broader operating envelope, such as at maneuver conditions, and occasionally even at cruise. Separated flow effects cause cruise performance penalties, and can often restrict vehicle operating conditions due to such matters as stability and control and/or buffet. Separated flows and their effects are generally unsteady. Separated flows occur in many ways for air or sea vehicles. Some examples of separated flows, along with associated vehicle components and operations, include (i) juncture flow separation (wing-body, wing-pylon), (ii) shock/boundary-layer separation (transonic wings, supersonic inlets), (iii) leading-edge vortex separation (wings/keels for maneuvering aircraft/ships), (iv) lifting-surface stall separation (wings in high-lift conditions), (v) wing wake separation (wing effects on tail performance), and (vi) aftbody wake/vortex separation (aircraft cargo deployment, ship controls). 4 important to ship applications. Many of these separated flows occur on smooth surfaces, and exhibit significant Reynolds number scaling effects. A symposium was held by AGARD in 1975 to benchmark needs and capabilities for separated flow issues of interest to NATO. Since that time, much has changed in vehicle technology, numerical simulation capability, and experimental methods. However, separated flows remain a critical issue for vehicle performance and development technology (experiments, numerics) of air and sea concepts. For example, the European Flightpath 2050 Vision for Aviation identifies aerodynamics as one of the high-leverage discipline for future vehicle development, and the NASA CFD Vision 2030 identifies unreliable predictions of turbulent separated flows, with current methods, as a major inhibitor to the expansion of CFD to predict a broader portion of the aerodynamic design space. The purpose for this activity is to establish a new baseline on separated flow issues and research capabilities, with a focus on NATO interests, through an STO symposium. 4 AVT-307 Call for Papers PUBLIC RELEASE

8 11 Nov 2019 Submission of Corrected Manuscripts Deadline for all papers to be included in the Meeting Proceedings After: AVT to edit, prepare, produce Meeting Proceedings, which will be made accessible through the STO website Procedures Invitation and Abstract Submission The initial abstract should describe in words the aim, results and conclusions of the work. Inclusion of 1 to 2 figures and/or photographs to support the abstract is recommended. Authors names, complete addresses and other pertinent information must be included with the abstracts. For this purpose, please use the Abstract Submittal Form (Annex 1) and keep the size of files less than 2 MB. The full scientific paper (recommended limit of 12 pages) will be requested once the Programme Committee has selected the authors and developed the final agenda for the Meeting. 9 Security Level, Clearance and Paper Preparation This Symposium is classified as NATO Unclassified Releasable to AUS, FIN, JPN, and SWE. For details please consult the attached section on NATO and Partner Nations Overview (Annex 2). It is the responsibility of each contributor to fulfil the publication release and clearance requirements of his/her organization/company/affiliation and country to obtain clearance of abstracts and papers as needed. An official clearance is mandatory in the US (see ANNEX 3) and there may also be a requirement in other countries. If in doubt, authors should contact a Programme Committee Member. Authors of papers selected for presentation and publication will be notified by the Programme Committee by no later than 18 Jan The AVT Executive Office will then send an Authors Information Package containing templates, detailed instructions concerning the preparation of manuscripts, as well as, information about the clearance process to each lead author. Travel and Logistics Authors of contributions selected for presentation will not be financially supported by NATO. Authors are responsible for their own hotel and travel reservations based on suggestions given in the General Information Package which will be provided typically 4 months ahead of time. Expenses for travel and per diem costs are the responsibility of each author s organisation and nation.
