1 MEMS ACADEMY NEWSLETTER UPDATE - PAGE 1 OF 8 VOLUME 2, EDITION 2 MEMS Team assigned to newly formed csmr training command As of MAY14 the MEMS Team is now assigned to the newly formed CSMR Training Command. As many of you are aware - The MEMS Team is a state wide training unit which will continue to assist all California soldiers in their endeavors to further their education in the field of Emergency Management. With this new TDA - The MEMS Team will be even more efficient and productive assisting all of our soldiers - And continue to deliver the MEMS Training curriculum. The Training Command and the MEMS Team now falls under the excellent leadership of: Richard D. Grossman COL (CA) MP, CSMR Commanding

This has been recognized by Southern Regional Support Command and the State Guard Association of the United States. This dedication has carried on through their commitment to service. As of this year individual members of the Unit have been recognized and promoted to higher ranks and responsibilities in the California (CA) State Military reserves. 4 PAGE 4 Mems specialist academy update: 2Q/2014 This document contains the names of those dedicated soldiers who have invested the required time and energy to improve their understanding of Emergency Management Response. The soldiers listed on the page below have followed guidelines as delineated in the MEMS Academy Student Guidelines, and have achieved the highly sought after status of being a certified specialist in the field of emergency response. The primary duties of the Academy State Directors (ASD) for the MEMS Academy are to: Coordinate and provide all logistical support for the MEMS program. Process all MEMS applications, FEMA courses, Table-Top exercises, and Practicum s. Instruct and proctor all soldiers during multiple live face-to-face training modules. Approve awards of MEMS credentials and issue MEMS certificates/flashes for Basic, Senior and Master MEMS upon completion. If your name does not appear on this list and you have a certified document obtained through the California State Director of the MEMS Academy, or you have earned a higher level than one listed, please contact me at: submarine582@verizon.net You have my personal assurance your information will be corrected in both the California State list of certified MEMS students, and also within the State Guard Association of the United States Commandant of the MEMS Academy database. On behalf of the entire MEMS Academy Instructor Team, I want to thank each of those dedicated soldiers who believed they would become a greater asset to the California State Military Reserves and to their community, by taking and completing this course of study. Pesantes is the CEO and founder of Hispanic American Insurance Associates Inc. established in January 1976, HAIA Inc. Main business is retail Personal Lines, Life & Disability and Commercial Insurance. Galo has been brokering Insurance policies with approximately 56 Insurance Companies (Farmers Insurance Co, Safeco Insurance Co. Travelers Insurance Co. etc.) and writing close to $10,000,000 in annual premiums. He is currently managing the Agency and fourteen employees and was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for the Life Underwriters. He is currently license as a Broker from the State of California for Property and Casualty and Life and Disability Retail Insurance and also holds a Real Estate Sales License from the State of California since August Major (CA) Pesantes graduated in 2000 from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Business Science Management and hold a Master in Business Administration, he also earned a Certificate of completion from the University Of West Los Angeles School Of Law in Judicial Process, Torts, Criminal Law, Contracts, Estate Planning, and Criminal Procedures. 7 PAGE 7 MEET YOUR MEMS ACADEMY INSTRUCTORS: He completed and became a Master Mason in 2009 on the California Garden Grove Lodge, Maya Masonic Lodge and completed the York Rite. Major Pesantes began his military career in March 5, 2003 with the California State Military Reserve Center of Military History South serving as a Warrant Officer, performing duties as a Museum Activity Coordinator; two years later he was promoted to Warrant Officer and later reassigned to the S1 Section as Officer in charge of personnel and human resources. He was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 2005 and early 2007 transferred to 40 th ID DSB (M) as a Plan Officer for Operations and also in September 2007 promoted to 1 st Lieutenant and place in charge to start and continue the Military Emergency Management Specialist Academy for the 40 th ID DSB. In 2009 was named in Richmond, Virginia site of the SGAUS annual conference California State MEMS Director overseeing all the MEMS Operations and training statewide. Promoted to Major (CA) CSMR in 2014 and placed in charge of the MEMS Section for the Training Command CSMR oversees and lead 10 Instructors and one NCO Assistant for classes and Training for the Military Emergency Management specialist Academy while the program has grown to 921 students statewide from the California State Military Reserve, Air National Guard, California National Guard, U S Army and Navy. Major (CA) Pesantes has completed BOC and WOBC training and Branch qualification courses for the Adjutants General s Corps Military History Officer Basic Course as Army Field Historian. Major (CA) Pesantes also completed his Basic, Senior and Master MEMS and Train the Trainer Emergency Training program FEMA L-449 plus other FEMA Emergency courses and Weapon of Mass Destruction 130, Q-534 Emergency Respond to Terrorism, Incident Command System ICS300, Incident Command System ICS400, Train the Trainer New Mexico Tech Prevention and Response to Terrorism Bombings Incidents, Performance Level Training Course and Incident Response to Terrorism Bombing Performance Level. Major (CA) Pesantes also completed in West Los Angeles College 2004 PC 832 Firearms and Arrest Course.
