1 John Cotton Richmond John Richmond is a federal prosecutor serving as the Special Litigation Counsel with the U.S. Department of Justice s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit. He has investigated and prosecuted numerous victim centered labor and sex trafficking cases throughout the United States. John has also prosecuted criminal civil rights crimes, including, cross burnings, police misconduct cases, and neo-nazi hate crimes. John s work to combat human trafficking has earned numerous honors, including: being named one of the Prosecutors of the Year by the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation, receiving the Outstanding Investigative Accomplishments in a Human Trafficking Award from the Department of Homeland Security, the Distinguished Law Enforcement Teamwork Award from the Federal Executive Board, well as twice winning the Department of Justice s Special Commendation Award, and other honors. Some of his notable trials include United States v. Campbell, in which a U.S. citizen forced eastern European women to work at massage parlors and engage in sex acts through a coercive scheme of beatings, rapes, and branding their bodies to mark the women as his property; United States v. Rivera, in which 48 identified victims were rescued and the defendants were convicted in a complex labor and sex trafficking case; United States v. Teel, in which 10 corrections officers were convicted of color of law violations for the routine and systematic beating of inmates at a Mississippi jail that resulted the death of an inmate; United States v. White, in which the leader of one of the largest Neo-Nazi organizations in the country was convicted of targeting individuals with true threats of harm. John has served as an expert on human trafficking for the United Nation s Working Group on Trafficking in Persons and at the European Union s multilateral meetings on human trafficking. He has trained judges, prosecutors, federal agents, law enforcement officers, non-governmental organizations, and international delegations on human trafficking investigative and prosecutorial strategies. He is a frequent speaker on human trafficking, civil rights, and rule of law. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, John worked on human trafficking crimes as the Director of the International Justice Mission s slavery work in India

Poised as a national subject matter expert in criminal behavior and victimization; management, coordination and oversight of high-profile collaborative partnerships and multijurisdictional operations. Distinguished public speaker and skilled communicator with extensive public relations and marketing experience. Sunny is an accomplished instructor which attention to detail, task-oriented, and goals-driven. She is accomplished at providing direction for the vision and execution of desired results for her clients. Slaughter is a federally certified Instructor and Consultant for the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, based in Glynco, GA. In this capacity, she provides varied expertise in criminal behavior and victimization, reviews and approves training material and certifies law enforcement officers and others as Adjunct Instructors on behalf of the department. Sunny holds certifications in Domestic Violence, the Drug Task Force Supervisor Training Program, successfully completed the Hate and Bias Crimes college course for sworn law enforcement only and is a recognized member of ILEETA (International Law Enforcement and Educators Association). To her credit Sunny holds multiple levels of certification from FEMA including Incident Management, Operational Planning and Integrated Preparedness. She has served as the key note speaker, trainer and expert for United States Attorney s Offices across the country, and is a recognized expert by the FBI-Birmingham Division, the USDOJ Office for Victims of Crime, and the Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community and several other leading organizations focused on crime initiatives and policy development across the country. Ms. Slaughter is a subject matter expert on human trafficking, teen dating and workplace violence, domestic and sexual violence, bullying and crimes against children. She has designed and developed the law enforcement and victim advocate training material on human trafficking which is being used in at least eight states in the southeast. Ms. Slaughter is a recognized subject matter expert on crime for local, statewide and national media outlets; ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CNN/HLN After Dark, radio, social media outlets, blog talk radio, newspaper, print and various entities. Her written work has been featured in magazines, newspapers and training presentations for various venues across the country. In 2010 Ms. Slaughter assisted in the drafting, lobbying and successful passage of Alabama s first Comprehensive Anti-Human Trafficking state law which was signed by the then Governor Bob Riley. Sunny has served on the Human Trafficking Task Force for the US Attorney s Office, Northern District of Alabama since 2007 and currently serves on the Prison Reentry Task Force for the same office. In 2012 she was contacted by the Obama Administration, Office of the Vice President to be a participant in monthly conference calls and lends her expertise as it relates to violence against women and criminal behavior. In 2013 Ms. Slaughter received a national award from Harry Belafonte and the Southern Christian Leadership Foundation for her work across the nation on Human Trafficking. She was also appointed by the Metro Birmingham Branch of the NAACP as the 1 st Chairwoman of the Human Trafficking Task Force which is the first of its kind in the nation. In addition, Ms. Slaughter was featured in the May 2013 Women s Edition of B-Metro Magazine for her long term and continued efforts to expose the criminal behavior and victimization behind human trafficking, serves as a consultant and advisor to The White House, Office of the Vice President, Vice President Biden, Violence Against Women Committee, and was selected to serve as a Commissioner for the Chicago based Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference in Tuskegee, which conducted hearings on social injustice and the mass incarceration of juveniles.

3 COLONEL SCHERRY E. DOUGLAS Colonel Scherry E. Douglas was the Mobilization Augmentee to the Director of the National Security Emergency Preparedness (NSEP), a Directorate of 1AF/AFNORTH, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. The unit is primarily responsible for Civil Support/Homeland Security (HLS) plans/policies/procedures in support of the United States and its territories. Colonel Douglas facilitated AF support by providing on-scene augmentation for the ten appointed Defense Coordinating Officers/ Elements (DCO/DCE), during disasters or emergencies declared by the President of the United States. Colonel Douglas is a 1983 distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) from Alabama State University where she earned a bachelor of science in English and a bachelor of arts in journalism. Before assuming her current position, she served as the first commander of the 4th Combat Camera Squadron, March Air Reserve Base, California. Civilian Employment: She is currently employed as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations for the state of Alabama. The HSI mission is to prevent terrorist and criminal acts by targeting people, money, and materials that support terrorist and criminal networks. As ASAC, the twenty-year law enforcement veteran is directly responsible for developing and providing administrative and operational oversight of criminal and civil investigations relating to counter-terrorism, trade fraud, money laundering violations, maritime port security, illegal exportation, counter proliferation of military items, human trafficking/smuggling, marriage fraud, document fraud and narcotics smuggling, in the state of Alabama. 5 Tajuan McCarty Tajuan McCarty is the Founder and Executive Director of The WellHouse, a nonprofit, faithbased and Christ-centered agency dedicated to rescuing women from sexual exploitation/human trafficking. She has experience in social work, community outreach, and as a consultant on women's issues. Her professional experience includes leadership positions in which she has assisted women ex-offenders re-enter society; helped implement Alabama's first program devoted to helping chronically homeless, severely mentally ill women and as a social worker for the Alabama Department of Human Resources. She holds Master degrees in Public Health and Public Administration, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she is currently an Adjunct Professor/Field Director, (in her spare time)! Tajuan is uniquely qualified to lead The WellHouse, as she understands victims situations too well. At 15, she was sexually exploited by her "boyfriend-turned-pimp". She was trafficked to Birmingham so many times, it became her home. Her many experiences make her a passionate advocate for victims of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Tajuan was recognized as one of The Top 20 Women Who Make a Difference in Birmingham in 2013 due to her efforts to fight human trafficking and recently featured on The 700 Club
