1 Dallas Military Order News Volume 25, No. 6 Best Large Chapter in the Nation ` Dec 2016 The Commander's Corner Thanks for our Blessings It is almost the end the year, and the Season fast approaches when we wish to give thanks for our many blessings and look back at this year s events. Your Chapter has enjoyed a great year, following the motto that It is Nobler to Serve than to be Served. I would like you to review the results of our Companions hard work which are listed on Page 2 of this month's Newsletter. If you ever doubt that we are making a difference in our Community, then please remember that as your Commander, I receive many thank you messages, on your behalf, for your Chapter s work. They are too numerous to list, but I would like to share with you a letter from Mr. Sven Lohse, a 17 year old, Number 1 Participant at the 2016 Youth Leadership Conference, held at Texas A&M, this year. As we say goodbye to 2016, we look forward to even greater opportunities and challenges to serve during the coming year. To meet these challenges will require even more funding; accordingly, we have officially started our 2017FUND DRIVE. I urge all Companions during this Season of Charitable Giving to remember your Chapter and its needs for the coming year by making your Donation to the Dallas Chapter, MOWW before 31 December, in order to receive your federal tax deduction for this year. USAF (Fmr) Dallas Chapter Commander This Month s Program, Dec 2016 It will be a Christmas Gala Your Chapter Commander and his Staff are planning for this year's Christmas Banquet to be the zenith of a year of outstanding achievements. Our evening will begin with posting of the Colors by the award winning Cadets of Woodrow Wilson's Army JROTC Honor Guard, followed by a Pledge to the Flag by an Eagle Boy Scout and a Gold Award Girl Scout. Among the Distinguished Guests for the evening, we will honor the nationally acclaimed former Chief of the Dallas Police Department (DPD) and the December recipient of the DPD Officer of the Month. A host of fellow DPD officers will be on hand to accept the gratitude and best wishes of a room full of grateful Dallas citizens. Adding to the festivities will be an interlude of holiday songs and a nostalgic rendition of "Music of the WW I Era" from 100 years ago. Make it a point to meet with each of the five (5) National Commanders-in- Chief, who will be with us (and be sure to say "Hello" to the incomparable, Diane Schmidt, 85, wife of past CINC, Homer Schmidt). 2 Commander's Corner (continued) During this year, the Dallas Chapter has recognized: 75 young Americans, by funding their attendance at Texas Youth Leadership Conferences (YLC) 10 Outstanding YLC Participants, by presenting Bronze Patrick Henry Medallions 2 Number One YLC Students, by presenting Bronze Patrick Henry plaques 6 Number One JROTC Summer Camp Cadets, by presenting Bronze Patrick Henry Medallions 52 Boy Scouts, by presenting Certificates of Merit, upon attaining the rank of Eagle Scout 154 Girl Scouts, by presenting Certificates of Merit. upon attaining the Gold Award Retired Dallas Police Chief, David O. Brown, by recommending him for a Gold Patrick Henry Award to be presented by the MOWW Commander-in-Chief. 2 Garland Police Officers, by awarding one of the Officers a Silver Patrick Henry Plaque and the other an Outstanding Merit Plaque, for ending an attack by two armed terrorists. 4 Fallen Dallas Police Officers by presentation of a Memorial plaque to be hung in DPD Headquarters. The families of the 5 Fallen Police Officers, by raising over Five Thousand Dollars to assist them. 12 Dallas Police Officers of the Month, by presenting Certificates for Outstanding Service. 6 Coppell Firefighters and EMTs, by presenting MOWW Certificates for Outstanding Service. 6 Veterans transitioning into Civilian Life by hosting them at a Luncheon and assisting them in their transition into the civilian workforce. 18 Dallas Chapter Combat Veterans, by honoring them during Opening Day ceremonies at the State Fair of Texas. Honorary National MOWW Commander-in-Chief 10th Anniversary of the Induction of "41" Ten short years ago, the Council of Past Commandersin-Chief (CINC) travelled to the President Bush Library at Texas A&M, and inducted former President George Herbert Walker Bush as an Honorary CINC. During the ceremony, we invited him to allow us to induct him as a Perpetual Companion in the DALLAS Chapter, to which President Bush readily agreed. Officer McLain serves in the Central Patrol Division as a Field Sr Corporal Matthew McLain and Dallas Chapter Commander Paul Training Officer, where he has applied his leadership and mentoring skills to train dozens of Rookie patrol officers..

3 MOWW COMPANION PROFILES CWO4 Jacques B. Loraine III, US Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jacques Loraine was born in Chelsea Naval Hospital, MA. He is a graduate of Liberty University, Lynchburg VA. In 1995, he earned a BS degree in Business. Jacques entered Service in November 1973 as an enlisted Intelligence Analyst supporting Tactical Air Command operations at Hurlburt FL. In December 1975 he entered the Army as an Intelligence Technician Warrant Officer with assignment to XVIII Airborne Corps, Combat Intelligence Group, in direct support of emerging Special Operations missions. His Army military career included Analytical and Leadership positions at the Defense Intelligence Agency s Special Activities Branch, Washington, DC (two tours) and Department of the Army Special assignments within Army & Joint Special Mission Units at Ft. Bragg, NC. These assignments provided critical intelligence directly supporting embedded Special Operations units. Jacques' last assignment was as a Department of Defense liaison officer to the Central Intelligence Agency. Jacques' military awards include: a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (3 rd Award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 rd Award), and Air Force Commendation Medal. Upon retiring in 1995, Jacques joined Raytheon E-Systems as a Senior Principle Systems Engineer, supporting Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) businesses. In 2008, he became Director of Business Development for Unmanned ISR Systems, until his retirement in March Jacques and his wife, Debbie, live in Garland. He is currently a City of Garland Committee Member, a Hospital volunteer, and Chairman of Ricker Retirement Center Advisory Board.. HRM Martha Nelson, US Air Force Brat Martha Nelson was born in Mandeville, LA and raised in Aledo, TX, with her seven younger siblings. As a high school student, Martha attended the MOWW Youth Leadership Conference at Texas Wesleyan University and was chosen as a "Top Student". She returned, twice, as a Youth Counselor. She is the daughter of Captain James H. Pool (USAF) and Captain Nancy Carol Keeton Pool (USAF), both graduates of the United States Air Force Academy. Her father was assigned to Joint Chiefs of Staff, J3 Operations, in the Pentagon, planning covert operations in the Middle East. He flew A-10 Thunderbolt II's and served as an instructor at USAF Fighter Weapons School, Nellis AFB, NV. Martha s mother was in the third class of female graduates from the Air Force Academy and served as a pilot flying C-141 and C-12 jet aircraft. Martha was awarded a full tuition scholarship to Southern Methodist University and was named both an SMU Cox Scholar and a National Merit Scholar. She graduated from SMU, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, majoring in Accounting. She also received her Master's degree from SMU s Edwin L. Cox School of Business. While at SMU, Martha interned in the office of President George W. Bush. She also served as SMU s Student Body Secretary and as the Student Ambassador to the school's Admissions Council. Martha is a licensed CPA and began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving to Andersen Tax, where she provides comprehensive tax and personal accounting solutions for high net worth individuals and privately held businesses. Martha and her husband, Scott, reside in Uptown and enjoy music, traveling, outdoor activities, collecting old movies, and hosting dinner parties. They are members of Park Cities Presbyterian Church.

Veterans Day, 11 November 2016 "Honoring Military Families" Without the Dallas Chapter of MOWW there would simply be no Dallas Veterans Day. Parade The Chair of this year's Parade, our own HPM Tracy Fisher presided over one of the best parades in years. Her understudy to lead next year's Parade is Dallas Chapter Companion Joe Cordina. One of the highlights of the Parade each year is the Massing of Colors which is organized and supervised by Companion Paul Pfrommer, with the able assistance of Sergeant Major Lonnie Clark, the Senior NCO of the Dallas Independent School District's 25 JROTC programs. Following the traditional Wreath laying ceremony, Taps, and the 21 round rifle volley, the Emcee gives the command to "Pass in Review", which initiates the procession of more than 5,200 Veterans and a host of other organizations. all proudly demonstrating their support for those who have served and those who are still serving. Notice: Next Commander's Staff Meeting will be held Thursday, 15 December 2016 at 1:30 p.m. (1330 hrs) in the Frontiers of Flight Museum, Dallas (near Love Field) Paul and Cathy Brown can be seen following the MOWW banner as the Parade steps off.

Col Peter Malik and Paul Brown presented a check to DPD Dep Chief Tony Sporano, in support of Assist the Fallen Officers Foundation MG Gary Bunch pictured with Dr David Vroonland, Mesquite ISD Superintendent, spoke at their annual Veterans Day Breakfast. CWO5 Quint Avenetti (center) spoke to 500 students at Davis Elementary School during the school's Salute to Veterans Day Senior Vice Commander Jim Blunk rendered his report on plans to raise enough funds to send 80 students to next year's YLC's. COL Ron Forest awarded Certificates to the winners of the Art Contest held at Dallas City Hall prior to the Veterans Day Parade. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria, on 28 June 1914, is widely recognized as the spark that lit the fuse on the most horrendous global conflict that the world had ever known. Companion Down Home from the Hospital We are pleased to report that Perpetual Companion Ed McAuliffe is home from the hospital and recovering nicely from his surgery.
