16 riginality an the project be something you dream up? es an the project be something that has never been done before? es an you pick a project which has been done before? es oes the project have to be original? o oes the project have to be lasting? o s the sky the limit for a project? Pretty much

17 esponsibility The Scout is responsible for planning, directing and following through to the projects successful completion. estrictions There are no required minimum hours for a project. o one may tell the scout how many hours must be spent on it. o not tell Scouts how many hours an average project takes, that will be interpreted as stating an hour goal. outine labor is not normally appropriate for a project. This might be defined as a job or service you may provide as part of your daily life, or a routine maintenance job normally done by the beneficiary (for example, pulling weeds on the football field at your school).

18 While projects may not be of a commercial nature or for a business, this is not meant to disallow work for community institutions, such as museums and service agencies (like homes for the elderly, for example), that would otherwise be acceptable. Some aspect of a business operation provided as a community service may also be considered for example, a park open to the public that happens to be owned by a business. o more than one Eagle Scout candidate may receive credit for working on the same Eagle Scout service project. pril 2012 pdate

19 Projects may not be performed for the Boy Scouts of merica, or its councils, districts, units, or properties. project may not be an effort that primarily collects money, even for a worthy charity. Fundraising is permitted only for securing materials and facilitating a project, and it may need to be approved by your council. See Eagle Scout Service Project Fundraising pplication in the workbook. pril 2012 pdate

20 The Fundraising pplication f your fundraising effort involves contributions only from the beneficiary of your project or you, your parents or relatives, your unit or its chartered organization, or parents or members in your unit, submitting the fundraising application is not necessary. f you will be obtaining money or materials from any other sources, you must submit a completed application to your district project approver unless you are seeking cash donations exceeding $ from individual businesses, which must be approved by the local council service center.

22 pprovals of Eagle Project (ontinued) Make a list of potential projects and obtain contact information for the benefiting group and call them for an appointment. Meet with the benefiting group and complete the Eagle Scout Service Project Proposal in the workbook. nce they accept your proposal, have the benefiting group representative sign and date the proposal Beneficiary pproval block. Present your completed proposal to your nit eader and nit committee representative for approval and obtain their approval signatures on the same page. pril 2014 pdate

38 ertifying the Eagle pplication n Grand anyon ouncil all completed Eagle Packets are submitted to a designated istrict ertifier who will make sure all the information submitted meets the requirements for Eagle Scout ank. our dvancement hairperson or your nit eader can help you with this step. ny errors or deficiencies found during this process must be corrected prior to certification. t s best to include photo copies of all merit badge and rank advancement cards in your packet. When the istrict ertification step is complete, the certifier will sign the application and notify the Scout that he is eligible for the Eagle Scout Board of eview.

40 Board f eview n many districts the istrict ertifier will inform the Scout when the next Eagle B will meet or schedule a B for the Eagle andidate and provide contact information if necessary. n some districts the boy or his Scoutmaster will contact the istrict dvancement hair or istrict Eagle Board oordinator to set up his Board of review. Many districts hold regularly scheduled Eagle Boards of eview, some hold them as required.

42 Eagle Board f eview The review members have to be unanimous to recommend the Eagle andidate to ational for approval. andidate is not an Eagle Scout until ational approves the application. Sometimes they reject it. Post Board f eview Paperwork The board members will sign and date the Eagle pplication form, date the Grand anyon ouncil heck Sheet if necessary; and in some districts, complete a istrict Eagle Board of eview form.

44 Processing ouncil Executive will sign application and it will be forwarded to ational. The Eagle Services ffice will submit the Eagle pplication electronically (this also performs a final error check) to the BS ational office. t takes about four five weeks to receive word from ational if Eagle ank is approved or not. nless other arrangements have been made, the Eagle ertificate will be mailed to the Scout s home address listed on the Eagle pplication
