2 Benedict College National Alumni Association ALUMNI VOLUNTEER CORPS Send Application To: Office of Alumni Affairs; 1600 Harden Street; Columbia, SC PURPOSE Though government has an important role to play in meeting the many challenges that remain before us, we are coming to understand that no organization, including government, will fully succeed without the active participation of each of us. VOLUNTEERS are vital to enabling this country to live up to the true promise of its heritage. President Bill Clinton As President Bill Clinton stated, volunteers are vital to enabling this country to live up to the true promise of its heritage, Benedict College alumni are also vital to enabling the Benedict College National Alumni Association (BCNAA) to carry out its mission of supporting Benedict College through financial contributions, recruiting students, and providing scholarships. Alumni volunteers are important to the BCNAA and to the College, because of the critical role that they play in assisting them with their duties. Without the assistance of alumni volunteers who donate their time with little fanfare and no compensation, the BCNAA could not continue to provide the services and programs that it has provided for over 60 years. The Benedict College National Alumni Association (BCNAA) Alumni Volunteer Corps offers a way for alumni to continue the tradition of providing service to the BCNAA and to Benedict College in a structured, organized environment that will be recognized as the official volunteer arm of the BCNAA. The Corps objective is to identify a group of alumni volunteers who will perform services related to the operation of the College and to the activities of the BCNAA. Various projects and volunteer opportunities will involve alumni in the day-to-day operations of the Office of Alumni Affairs and the BCNAA and provide an opportunity for alumni to network with each other and with students, and reconnect with the College. Your time as a volunteer benefits your alma mater, fellow alumni and current students in remarkable ways. Margaret Mead said, Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it s the only thing that ever has. You are invaluable and your service through the Corps can change the future of the BCNAA and positively impact its on influence on the operations of the College. There are several positions available that offer enjoyable and rewarding opportunities to provide a remarkable service. POSITIONS Coordinator Administrative Support Marketing Representative Hospitality
3 Coordinator Number of Persons Needed Time Involvement Duties/Responsibilities Expected Outcomes hours per week BCNAA President and Executive Secretary Recruit alumni volunteers and continue to build Alumni Volunteer Corps Program Contact, communicate, and manage alumni volunteers Provide bi-weekly activity report to BCNAA President and Executive Secretary Organize biannual training for volunteers Develop calendar of events/activities in conjunction with BCNAA President and Executive Secretary Delegate work to volunteers, maintain schedule of assignments, and monitor participation and results Maintain inventory of BCNAA materials and merchandise Solicit alumni news from Executive Committee and club presidents Interface with My Benedict Advisor Current member of the BCNAA and contributor to AFG Ability to delegate and involve a diverse group of people Experience in leadership and supervision Flexibility and willingness to work in collaboration with the College and officers of the BCNAA Recruit at least 15 volunteers Submit regular activity reports and meet periodically with BCNAA President and Executive Secretary. Meet regularly with volunteers and monitor participation, and results Administrative Support Number of Persons Needed Time Involvement Duties/Responsibilities Expected Outcomes hours per week/20-25 hours per month Update alumni database Create labels for mailings Copy materials for mailings and stuff envelopes Assist in Annual Fund Giving phoneathon Communicate with and collect information from Executive Committee and club presidents to be used in reports, newsletters, etc. Assist in assembling BCNAA Annual/Spring Planning Meeting Report Booklets Complete required number of assignments as determined by the
4 Marketing Representative Number of Persons Needed 5-8 Time Involvement 5-10 hours per week/20-25 hours per month * Duties/Responsibilities Attend events per calendar (e.g., Founders Day, Commencement, Senior Week, Freshmen Orientation) to promote the BCNAA and to market its material Maintain inventory of items sold and monies collected and report to Coordinator Maintain history (scrapbook) and record of events of the BCNAA Expected Outcomes Complete required number of assignments as determined by the Hospitality year cycle will begin March 2008 Number of Persons Needed 5-8 Time Involvement 5-10 hours per week/20-25 hours per month * Duties/Responsibilities Work collaboratively with the Hospitality Committee Serve as greeters at events per the calendar Host hospitality rooms during BCNAA events Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, evenings and weekends Able to work in a team environment, be self-motivated, possess strong organizational skills, and work on multi-tasks concurrently Expected Outcomes Complete required number of assignments as determined by the Note: The above lists are a sample of duties. Other duties may be assigned by the Coordinator, as necessary. RECOGNITIONS Persons volunteering to be a part of the BCNAA Alumni Volunteer Corps will be a part of a special group of alumni who have decided to contribute their time and talents to assist the College and the BCNAA in accomplishing their missions. These volunteers are to be commended for their dedication and service, and will be rewarded for their efforts. The following are sample incentives: Special uniform and badging Recognition at Special Volunteer Corps Recognition Event Discounts on Homecoming and Spring Planning Meeting registrations Reserved seating at BCNAA sponsored events Special recognition at Annual Alumni Awards Banquet Quarterly gifts based on number of completed assignments
