1 TROOP OPENING CEREMONY The Opening Ceremony provides definite beginning to the Troop meeting. The Opening Ceremony should contain the breaking of the Canadian National Flag. The Opening Ceremony should be conducted at every gathering of the Troop, whether it is indoors or outdoors. The opening may be conducted by any invested scout leader and it is conducted like this: PRIOR TO THE OPENINC CEREMONY - DUTY PATROL The Scout leader in charge of the opening should identify one of the youth patrols (called Duty Patrol ). to setup the flag pole and Canadian Flag. DUTY PATROL LEADER 1. Calls the troop into a Horseshoe. 2. Ensures that the horseshoe lines up with the flag pole. 3. Ensures that the Scout leaders are behind the flag pole. 4. Calls Troop at Ease to get the Troop ready for the opening and checks their uniforms 5. Calls Troop Alert to bring the troop to attention. 6. States to the Ready for Opening, and then exits the horseshoe Flag Pole Scouts Breaking flag Thank you Duty Patrol Leader and calls troop to ease Troop at ease. Asks the Duty Patrol to come forward Color party to the flag (Two youth) Walk clockwise around the horseshoe and enters from the right and face the flag pole, one on either side. Calls Troop Alert and nods approval to the color party to break the flag. (Youth standing to left of flag) calls Check Halyards (Youth standing to right of flag) loosens the halyards, confirms the lines are clear and states Halyards clear. The youth holds on to the halyards with right hand. Calls Troop Salute. Entire Troop except the one holding the lanyards makes the Troop salute When Troop Salute is called, the youth holding the halyards brings right hand down to break out the flag. The youth then secures the halyards to the flag pole. Steps two paces back to face the flag and then gives the Scout salute. Ends the salute. At the same time, the entire troop end their salute, making a crisp end to the salute. Troop at ease

2 TROOP CLOSING CEREMONY The Closing Ceremony provides definite ending to the Troop meeting. The Closing Ceremony should contain the lowering of the Canadian National Flag. The Closing Ceremony should be conducted at end of any Troop, gathering whether it is indoors or outdoors. The closing may be conducted by any invested scout leader and it is conducted like this: PRIOR TO THE CLOSING CEREMONY - DUTY PATROL The Scout leader in charge of the closing should identify one of the youth patrols (called Duty Patrol ) to be prepared for the closing. DUTY PATROL LEADER 1. Calls the troop into a Horseshoe. 2. Ensures that the horseshoe lines up with the flag pole. 3. Ensures that the Scout leaders are behind the flag pole. 4. Calls Troop at Ease to get the Troop ready for the closing and checks their uniforms 5. Calls Troop Alert to bring the troop to attention. 6. States to the Ready for Closing, and then exits the horseshoe Flag Pole Scouts Breaking flag Thank you Duty Patrol Leader and calls troop to ease Troop at ease. Asks the Duty Patrol to come forward Color party to the flag (Two youth) Walk clockwise around the horseshoe and enters from the right and face the flag pole, one on either side. Calls Troop Alert and Lower the flag. (Youth standing to right of flag) unties the lanyards and lowers the flag. (Youth standing to left of flag) gathers the Canadian Flag as it is lowered. The flag must not touch the floor. (Youth lowering the flag) removes the flag from the halyards. Both members of the color party fold the Canadian Flag in the correct manner, wrap the lanyard around the folded flag and hand the flag to the. The color party then return to their position in the horseshoe Accepts the folded flag, waits till the color party are in the horseshoe Calls Troop at ease Delivers any notices to the Troop. Calls Troop Alert and Troop Dismissed to end the Troop meeting

3 SCOUT TROOP INVESTITURE This is the most important Scout ceremony. In this ceremony new scouts make their Troop Promise to the. In turn, the Scout Trooper pledges to help the new scouts do their best to keep the scout Promise. For this reason, only the invests new scouts. The Investiture ceremony should be kept simple yet emphasize procedure in order to impressive the scouts to they enter into it completely. Hold the ceremony toward the end of a regular meeting as the scouts will be less boisterous. PROCEDURE The shall: 1. Call the scouts to the Horseshoe and then calls everyone to attention 2. Asks the color Party to enter the Horseshoe as follows: Color Party, Present the color. The entire troop salutes as the color party enters the Horseshoe. The Colors must be held upright. 3. After the colors have entered the Horseshoe and taken position. The Troop Scouter Calls Troop at ease 4. For each patrol, calls the Patrol Leader to lead the new scouts (recruits) into the the Horseshoe. After the Patrol leader and recruits take position in the Horseshoe, the investiture can start. Color party Recruit Patrol Leader Calls the troop to alert. Troop Alert Patrol Leader: Asks the Patrol Leader Patrol Leader, who do you present? Scouter I present <recruit>, who wishes to be invested as a scout Thank you Patrol Leader Recruit: Recruit: Patrol leader takes one step back <Recruit> Do you know the Scout Promise, Law and Motto? Answers Yes Sir Can I trust you on your honor, to do your best to live up to the Scout Promise? Answers Yes Sir Troop, Scout sign On this command all invested scouts except the color bearer makes the scout sign. The color bearer, keeping the colors gathered, lowers the flag between the recruit and the Troop Scouter. The and recruit hold the colors in their left hand and make the scout sign with their right hand. Asks the recruit to repeat these words: On my honor "I promise that I will do my best, To do my duty to God and the Queen To help other people at all times And to carry out the spirit of the Scout Law. The colors are raised and the Troop comes to alert. The Troop Scouter gives the recruit their epaulettes and left handshake and then says: Scout (full name) You are now a scout in the worldwide brotherhood of Scouts. I trust you, as a scout, to keep this promise. The Patrol leader and newly invested scouts leave the horseshoe. Repeat this process for each Patrol with new recruits.

4 CUB AVANCEMENT TO TROOP PROCEDURE: The Pack forms a circle with the Akela in the centre. Position the KIM at the top of the circle. The Troop forms a horseshoe a few meters away. Hold the advancement ceremony at the beginning of a regular meeting immediately after the opening Grand Howl as the Pack is already setup in a circle and you have their attention. After the opening the Akela invites the cubs who are advancing into the centre of the circle and thanks them with a handshake and speaks to their role in the cub pack. Parents should be invited to attend the advancement ceremony to take photographs. Pack Leaders Akela Advancing cubs Troop Horseshoe Color party KIM CUB ADVANCEMENT TO TROOP When the Troop Counselor is ready, the Akela invites the advancing cubs to walk around the inside of the Pack circle and shake the hands of all of the cubs in the Pack. As the cubs complete their handshakes, the KIM opens the top of the circle The Troop Counselor invites the cubs to run and leap over a spar held by the Troop youth. When the last cub has left the Akela closes the Pack circle. The Troop Counselor welcomes each Cub and tells them that they are now called Pioneer Scouts. The Troop Patrol Leaders collect each Pioneer Scout and takes them back to their section of the Troop Horseshoe to introduce them to the other members of their Scout Patrol.
