1 Jacob White s Eagle Court of Honor Script SPL: Good Evening, my name is Ryan White and I am the Senior Patrol Leader and Master of Ceremonies for Jacob White s Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Tonight, we gather to honor one of our own, Jacob White, as he has achieved the highest rank in scouting Eagle. We will celebrate Jacob s successes in scouting as we remember his journey through the trail to Eagle. Past and present leaders will remind us of the fun and adventures along the way. The official regalia will be bestowed upon Jacob as the Eagle Charge is sounded. Before we begin tonight, let s open the Eagle Court of Honor (Jacob lights the Brother Hood of Scouting candle) We light the candle of World Brotherhood of Scouting to show our unity with our brother scouts all over the world. 2 Please join me in the Scout Law Color Guard, Reform Color Guard, Forward March Scouts at Ease, Color Guard at Ease Please be Seated. OPENING PRAYER SPL: Carter, would you please lead us in prayer? (Prayer) SLP: Thank you! Scoutmaster, Rickey Stovall, would you please come forward. CEREMONY SCOUTMASTER: Good afternoon ladies and gentleman. My name is Richey Stovall and I am Scoutmaster of Troop 1. Today I present Eagle Scout Candidate Jacob White for the Rank of Eagle Scout. As we begin this Eagle Court of Honor and examine the Trail to Eagle, it is fitting that we begin today with the Scout Oath. The Scout Oath that we recite is a guiding principle of 2

3 Scouting. The Scout Oath sets our internal direction. We declare our duty to God, Country, Others and Self. Also within the Oath are the rules we must follow to provide the guidelines to our duties. Scout Oath: On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. SPEAKER: MICHAEL DAME The rules of Scouting are found in the twelve points of the Scout Law. Let us pay careful attention to the words and re-dedicate ourselves to the principles contained in those words. Scouts, join me in slowly reciting the Scout Law Scout Law (Slowly): A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. The pathway to Eagle can be described as a steep trail beading up to three peaks. The highest being that of Eagle Scout. (Jacob Light Candles: Scout, Tenderfoot. Second Class, First Class) The trail starts with the Scout rank and continues through Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. During this phase the scouts are given instruction and guidance. They are learning important outdoor skills, including camping, cooking, physical fitness and developing teamwork and leadership skills. 3

4 The scouts are also being examined. The adult leaders are watching to see if the flicker of light representing duty, service and law is growing within. Reaching First Class is an important step in a Scout s life. He has demonstrated that he has met the requirements at each rank and is sowing scout spirit. Then, the mountain climbing begins. To begin the climb, the scout is first asked. Are you ready for the next challenge? Secondly, Can you and will you teach others what you have learned? SPEAKER: JOAQUIN MILLER (Jacob Lights Candles: Star and Life) The path going forward is marked with service, leadership, exploration and a stronger presence of Scout Spirit. The first peak to be reached is the Star Scout. The scout has provided leadership to his troop, he has provided service to fellow scouts and to his community and he is completing merit badges of personal interest as well as required to reach Eagle. At this point the scout is a Star. He has done well. The scouting family expects the light to be shining more brightly. SPEAKER: TUCKER JOHNSON The second peak is the Life Scout. Again, the scout must complete several hours of service to the community. The scout must demonstrate additional leadership within the troop. The scout must complete several merit badges. And finally, the scout must have embodied Scout Spirit in his daily life. 4

5 The badge for the Life Scout contains a heart. This is the only rank position that shows what Boy Scouts is all about and what is inside the scout. This badge answers these questions: Does he understand his duty? Does he understand the 12 points of the law? What could be more important than this rank? SPEAKER: HUNTER NUNN The third peak is the Eagle Scout. The scout has demonstrated he is a Star and he has embodied the Scout Spirit in his Life. Now he must be tested on one final climb. To see if it is truly part of his character. The requirements are much the same as Star and Life, however the scout must now go into the community, plan, organize, coordinate and deliver a service project; a demonstration of leadership and character. And one final time the scout must go before a group of adults who focus on his character, his leadership and his spirit. Does he reach the peak? Has he proven himself? Jacob White has proven he is an Eagle. EAGLE AWARDS SLP: Jacob White, please escort your parents to the front of the room. Our scoutmaster, Mr. Stovall will now award Jacob with the rank of Eagle. 5

6 SCOUTMASTER: Jacob, please step forward to receive your rank of Eagle. (Pin the Eagle ribbon on Jacob.) It is a Troop 1 tradition that you receive your Eagle Scout neckerchief. Jacob, please remove your neckerchief. (Place the new neckerchief on Jacob.) It is my honor to present you with your Eagle Scout Certificate. (Present the certificate to Jacob.) Jacob, no journey in life is done alone, and your journey to Eagle is no exception. Your parents have played a big role in your success as a scout. Please present your Eagle Scout Mother s pin to your mom. (Pin your mother s pin on Mom.) Jacob, please place your Eagle Scout Father s in on your dad. (Pin father s pin on Dad.) Your scouting family is greater than your mom and dad. Please take a moment to recognize your mentors in scouting. (Jacob pin the mentor s pins) EAGLE CHARGE: SLP: 6

7 You are now about to join the ranks of Eagle Scouts. Before doing so, however, we ask you to recommit yourself to Scouting s essential principles. Rusty Rasmussen, Eagle Scout and your Godfather will assist by delivering the Eagle charge. RUSTY RASMUSSEN: Will all the Eagle Scouts please stand in support of Jacob as he states and we renew our Eagle Scout Charge. (Eagle Scout Stand) The Boy Scouts of the world constitute one of the most wholesome and significant movements in history, and you Jacob, have been counted worthy of this highest rank in its membership, all who know you rejoice in your achievement. Your position, as you well know, is one of honor and responsibility. You are a marked man. As an Eagle Scout, you have assumed a solemn obligation to do your duty to God, to Country, to your fellow Scouts, and to mankind in general. This is a great undertaking. As you live up to your obligations, you bring honor to yourself and to your brother Scouts. Your responsibility goes beyond your fellow Scouts -- to your Country and your God. America has many good things to give you and your children after you; but these good things depend on the qualities she instills in her citizens. You are prepared to help America in all that she needs most. She has a great past, and you are here to make her future greater. Jacob, I will now ask you to make the Scout Sign and repeat after me: I realize my obligation To my fellow men, my home My country, and my God 7

8 I will at all times do my best To assist others To live with honor, loyalty, - Courage and service And to be a living example Of the Scout Oath and Law To the best of my ability (Two) As an Eagle Scout, you become a guide to other Scouts. You become an example in your community. Remember that your actions are now a little more conspicuous and people will expect more of you. To falter in your responsibility would reflect not only on you, but your fellow Eagles and all of Scouting. The torch you carry is not only yours, but is also ours. Congratulations Jacob!
