2 Lieutenant-Commander (Engineer) Served in RASC and Royal Marines in War. In Blue Funnel Line before the war, when his ship, the Glenearn, was requisitioned by the Admiralty as an auxiliary cruiser. Awarded MBE for services at the evacuation of Crete. Transferred to Prince Baudouin, in which he carried American Rangers to France on D-Day, and took part in the landings in the south of France. Transferred to Pacific on the Glenearn, where he met his death (April 1945), following a fire on board, by being caught in an explosion when he went down to shut off the petrol tanks.
