5 Incident Response Deputy Chief Jeff Sorensen March 2 March 6 March 11 March 14 March 16 March 17 March 20 March 25 March 25 March 25 A motor vehicle crash in the 200 block of North Dee Road resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Elm Street and Prospect Avenue resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Touhy and Western Avenues resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. Tower #36 responded to a fire in a 7 story high-rise condominium building, in the 500 block of South River Road in Des Plaines. They were assigned to Lobby control. The fire occurred in a fourth floor unit that was undergoing renovation. Fire damage was limited to the unit of origin. Companies responded to an automobile fire in the 1600 block of West Dempster Street. The heavily involved auto fire did not involve any other vehicles and was quickly extinguished. A motor vehicle crash involving three vehicles at the intersection of Oakton Street and Riverside Drive resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Dee and Talcott Roads resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Higgins Road resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cedar Street and Washington Avenue resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Potter Road and Glenview Avenue resulted in one patient being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. March 26 Tower #36 was sent on a change of quarters to Des Plaines Fire Station #3, while Des Plaines companies were on the scene of a working fire in a single family residence in the 500 block of Westgate Road. March 26 A motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Higgins Road resulted in two patients being transported to Lutheran General Hospital. 4

Paul Lisowski was elected Chairman, Tom Wilson was elected Vice Chairman and Gail Haller was elected Secretary. Attended a meeting held by the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at the Elmwood Park Police Station headquarters along with Deputy Chief Sorensen. Fire Investigation Lieutenant Derek Decker Investigation Summaries March 10 Tower 36 responded to the 1200 block of N. Northwest Highway for an outside fire. Upon arrival, a small fire on a sidewalk was found. The fire was extinguished with a pump can. No monetary loss resulted. The investigation determined the contents of the fire to be clothing items. A nearby witness stated they saw a car driving by and an occupant of the vehicle threw the items out the window. The fire was classified as incendiary. March 16 Tower responded to the 1600 block of Dempster for a car fire. A heavily involved fire within the passenger compartment was discovered upon arrival. The fire was extinguished with a single pre-connected hoseline. The resulting damage was estimated to be $5,000. The investigation concluded the area of origin was the passenger compartment near the center of the dashboard; however, the point of origin and source of heat for ignition could not be determined. The fire was classified as undetermined. 5

7 Training Battalion Chief Scott Sankey Quick Drill Throughout the month the Training Division assigns various quick drills to be discussed at the morning roll call. The March quick drills covered: Review UL New Science Fire Safety Journal #1 Forcing Double Doors with Panic Hardware Vehicle Stabilization Review MABAS Division III Joint Training All three shifts participated in the first of three weeks of joint training with the other MABAS Division III departments at NIPSTA. The focus of this year s spring drill is vehicle stabilization and a large scale building collapse. Tower 36 and Battalion 35 attended in April. Job Performance Requirements (JPR s) Ice Rescue Practical Make-up for Gold Shift Outside Training No outside training this month. March Training Hours Analysis Description Hours Automatic Aid Training 36 Company Map Drill 3.5 Daily SCBA Familiarization/Checks Driver Operator Training Hazmat Team Training 9 Ice Rescue 6 Officer Development 8.25 OSHA Required Training 5.5 Quick Drills Report of the Week 1.25 Total hours Special Teams Battalion Chief Scott Sankey Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT) Members of the Park Ridge Fire Department hazardous materials team participated in full response drill in Wilmette, on 3/18/2014, for a chlorine leak at the Wilmette Park District Facility. The drill consisted of identifying and stopping the leak. 6

8 Underwater and Rescue and Recovery Team (URRT) This month, the Park Ridge Fire Department hosted the MABAS Division III monthly dive drill at Axe Head Lake. Over thirty dive team members from various teams participated in the training which focused on ice rescue diving. One of the duties of the dive team is to train fire department members in several aspects of water rescue. A surface ice rescue class was conducted by the Park Ridge dive team for members of the fire department. Firefighters practiced rescuing victims that had fallen through the ice of a frozen lake. Technical Rescue Team (TRT) Members of the TRT participated in the Division III team drill, at the Niles Public Works facility. The team would like to welcome FF/PM Kurt Skinner back to the team. FF/PM Skinner brings many years of TRT experience to the team. Apparatus & Equipment Battalion Chief John Hanson Due to the high amount of miles and the stresses that the vehicles are put under, it is critical that we perform routine and emergency maintenance in cooperation with the City Garage. Below is a list of the maintenance completed for the month: F Ambulance - New air horns installed - Interior repairs completed F Ambulance - Replaced siren control box - New air horns installed F Ambulance - Interior repairs completed F Rescue Squad - Fuse and bulb replacement F Engine - Repaired hose divider F Engine - Replaced seatbelt New Battalion Chief command vehicle. 7

CPR and First Aid classes 31 people attended CPR and First Aid classes in the month of March The following classes were provided: 1 Health Care Provider class 1 Heart Saver AED class 1 First Aid class CPR and First Aid training was provided to: 16 people from Boy Scout Troop 107 8

FF/PM Jeremy Knautz and his wife are proud to announce the birth of their first child. Jaxon Irvin Knautz Born on 2/18/14 He weighed 7lb. 2 oz. Battalion Chief Sankey and his wife are proud to announce the birth of their third child.
